I've noticed that one of the requirements for a Fiance visa is the ability to support your new wife (and in my case, her child). Any idea what that translates to? i am self-employed. My credit report isn't exactly stellar - but I can pay the rent and the bills. Anyone with experience as to what they are looking for?
Hey Longbrit, Here are a couple of things of the top of my head and a link for futher information. Self employed is no big deal. You will simply have to provide 3 years tax returns. Your income will need to be sufficient to support a wife and a child. This magic number is a simple math formula and is a percentage above I think 15% above poverty for wife and another % for child. I think the link when explored will answer your questions. http://www.immigrationsupport.com/library/familybased.asp

this is a THE 2003 POVERTY GUIDELINES
Minimum Income Requirement for use in Completing
Form I-864, Affidavit of Support(required for fiance visa petition filing)
Most Americans will qualify, I don't think many people at or just above the poverty level would be seriously looking for a foreign wife. If one can afford the costs of visiting, correspondence, etc. that it is natural to assume that person is well above poverty.
Thanks everyone, the links and the comments really helped. I feel much better now! BTW I spent two weeks in Moscow over our Xmas and couldn't believe how expensive that place is! Worse than Tokyo!
Yes, Moscow is considered the second most expensive city to visit behind London. Kiev is expensive too. Both are way over priced if ou ask me! You still get shit service in the restaurants and hotels.
Although airfare to get there is cheap. On Yahoo Travel I recently saw an airfare from Miami to Kiev for $360.00. I heard that moscow was expensive, but a very beautiful city. Next time, look around. I know this site provides some services, but instead of a hotel I know there are also services that will set you up in an apartment with all the modern conveniences for a very reasonable price.
In all the big cities the prices are inflated, however there are ways to get around that.As chip says....stay away from the hotels...rent an apartment.Even as recently as November I managed to rent a nice apartment in Kiev for $30 a day,and by looking around you can certianly find inexpensive places to eat and drink too.
In Moscow, certainly a very expensive place, I have seen a company that provides apartments in moscow for $100.00 a month. With laundry service, microwave, tv, vcr, etc.
There are three sites that provide many links to what you may be looking for: www.stop-scammers.com is ad supported, www.yoshkar-ola.com, and www.youssia.com. Any one of those sites can be of help to you. The second one is a very large, and very reputable travel agency in Yoshkar-Ola. They have connections around Russia, and can make all arrangements for you. Again, they have an excellent reputation, and impeccable service.
Hi,my name is kavin and I'm having some problems getting some questions answered, hope someone can help me.
I am self-employed and fall under the poverty level, thats according to my tax returns after my deductions.
I actually make a pretty good living,very good credit,own 2 cars,nice bank account,and equity in my house.
Question:will any of this help or be taken in to consideration?
Question:If I need a co-sponcer,like my sister..will they combine her income with mine or will she need to meet the whole above poverty income requirment? Is the form for the co-sponcer very complicated or personal?
thank you for any imfo, sincerely kavin
See your income requirement on http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/07poverty.shtml and multiply it by 1.25, if the figure is less than your actual income, you're okay; but if it is less, then you need to show assets in excess of 5 times the difference in actual and required income.
