So I am preparing for my next trip to Nikolaev in the next coming months...
Questions...
-How do you ask for NON carbonated water in Russian? I kept getting the carbonated stuff last time... YUCK!
-Thinking about taking a trip out of the city with my girl and thinking about CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS or CRIMEAN RESORTS. Which would be a better/cheaper route for that time of the year and any suggestions on a different location to visit out of the city and places to go in the city for my stay?
I will be in Ukraine for a solid 10 days to enjoy with my lady and during my stay we are both celebrating both our birthdays as they are only days apart.
Also working around her school/work schedule, that weekend they have I think 2 extra days off (Holiday) so a 4 day weekend is perfect to plan this trip out of the city.
Thanks in advance for all the ideas and helpful advice from you all.
Buy "Bonaqua" ask for "no gas" water. Voda bez gaza (in Russiann). Carpathian mountains in April isn't the best Idea, better to go to the Crimea. If you like hiking and living in camps it will be rather cheap, if you need comfort try to escape big cities in the Crimea like Yalta, they are expensive go to smaller resorts. Any way your girlfriend will suggest the routes she likes best.
If you need any help and assistance in Nikolaev don't hesitate asking me.
Pronunciation help (I hope) for Armin's phrase, meaning "water without gas":
vu-DA byez GAH-za
The Russian adjective meaning without gas (equivalent to "still" or "non-carbonated" in English) is
nye-gah-zee-ROW-vu-nee
I have forgotten the Ukrainian version of this word, which is different. But anyone who isn't offended by you calling their town Nikolaev (in Ukrainian, it is Mykolaiv), will have no problem with you using the Russian word for non-carbonated :)
