I am writing article on the online dating for Russia Profile web-site (RIA News) and I am interested in your experiences and opinions.
1. What do you think about FSU girls who are registered on the international dating portals? Are they different from girls in your country? If yes, in which way?
2. Share your positive experience. Did you meet in the Internet nice ladies or even a girl of your dream from FSU?
3. Your negative experience. Scammers, fraudsters, rude people etc.
You can answer the questions there or contact me directly sk135@mail.ru
You could be named in the article or stay anonymous, it is up to you.
The majority on the non-scamming site I used were very nice people.
They all have FSU life experiences.
They are, in general, different than US women in that they keep more learned about world events, have less in-grained racist beliefs, do maintain a healthier lifestyle, and speak better Russian than English.
Yes I met a number of very lovely ladies and eventually married.
I met some Good Time Girls and one very real Scammer, but I educated myself and knew instantly and therefore it had no affect on me.
1) Internet dating allowed these women to give me a chance to get to know me better without discarding me as soon as they saw me, like locals often do. Long-distance relationships are tough to manage, even with the nicest girl, but with the right type of commitment and responsibility anybody can find true love. There are all types of women in dating portals, like there are anywhere in the world.
2) I am married to the girl of my dreams, and I met her in Internet, though not on a dating site. I met her in a social networking site. I still have friends from dating sites who are wonderful people. Due to serendipity of life the woman of my dream did not come from a dating site.
3) The negative for me was this: most times photos and profiles do not represent reality, so there were a few disappointments (both ways) when finally meeting in person. I have seen profiles with photos of many years back and incomplete information (like not mentioning a child on purpose). People should be more real in their profiles and the success rate would be higher. Scammers were not a problem for me because they are very easy to spot. I never jumped on a plane after the first letter/photo. There are ways to unmask scammers.
One bad thing I did notice, though, is that many women in the FSU think that they want to have a new family abroad, but when the moment of truth comes, they realize that they do not want to leave their motherland and live far away from family and/or friends. They get cold feet because they have not thought through the consequences of long-distance dating
FSULover's last statement is an important factor in whether or not a woman will really cut it in your home town.
I believe that most of the women on the dating sites are either in it for the novelty or haven't really thought it through.
I wouldn't care to comment on women from marriage agencies other than to say...what a crock...and I don't believe anything they say.
In my experience; most of the women who genuinly want a male in their life would much rather he was of their own nationality.
Some women I was in contact with on normal dating agencies hadn't a clue what they wanted.
Most were deluded enough to think because there are so many guys looking on fsu sites for women they could attain the perfect guy by just waiting.
I know one woman who has been on the same site for years who has a son and would not accept my situation as ideal simply because I have a duaghter who lives with me.
Presumably she would expect me to be a father to her son, but doesn't like the fact I have a daughter???
She's still on the site looking for a 40 to 50 year old man with no family, finacially stable and so on...
10/10 for trying I suppose
1) Girls in my western country are a lot more superficial. What they want in men are sometimes unrealistic. By the time they lower their standards, they are in their 30s and 40s. Foreign girls I find that they at least doesn't ignore you completely and are willing to give someone a chance.
2) I met several nice foreign girls and one eventually became my girlfriend. I'm sure they would be a dream for many particular men. I met them through the internet and locally. I find their character is more positive and optimistic than western girls. Being a foreigner myself, though not exactly the same, we share similar characteristics.
3) The typical scam. After a while, father is unable to work and need money desperately to pay for operation or medicine. I was very new to the online international dating hence naive and almost got caught. Fortunately, someone that knew her warned me she been scamming countless men. Suddenly, it made sense why her chat replies in her native language took so long.
Its an interesting topic, i have found out from my own experience on a vast majority of the date sites i am far more likely to come across a scammer than a genuine girl. Western women tend to come with an agenda and you have to tick all the boxes. Fsu women seem far more feminine and more homely, they seem to be more in tune with reality rather than the want want attitude of western women. The biggest problem with intrernet date sites from the fsu is the cultural attitude difference, i have found that if a man gets scammed it is just an unfortunate thing but hey these things happen and thats what comes across from the fsu people. I have to sometimes question the morality of the scammers and the fact that they are easily accepted on these sites and they seem to be welcomed on alot of sites. I have had a particular web site say to me we dont accept scammers but when i exposed a scam to them the acknowleged it and said we will take action, they took action they did nothing even when physical evidence was presented to them. Thats the problem, the date system in the fsu is a massive business and in my opinion almost completely corrupt on a vasy majority of sites and the cultural attitude lets this to happen.
Thanks for your stories.
Topic is closed. You can read my article there http://www.russiaprofile.org/page.php?pageid=Culture+%26+Living&articleid=a12692 85713

Connecting Lonely Hearts
By Svetlana Kononova
Russia Profile
When the six-month-long Russian winter just seems like it will never come to an end, when a busy city lifestyle leaves little free time away from work, and when it is sometimes easier to keep in touch with friends thousands of kilometers away than with next-door neighbors, millions of Russians turn to their computers to find love.
Online dating has become so popular that dating Web sites are still a growing and profitable business, despite the economic crisis. And despite the skepticism of critics who doubt the wisdom of using the Internet to find friends, lovers or spouses, numerous success stories testify that dating sites really do work.
About half of active Russian Internet users have profiles registered on dating Web sites, according to a recent statistic. “More than 2,000,000 people visit our site daily,” said Olesya Kuznetsova, a PR and advertisement director at the biggest Russian Internet dating service, Mamba, which has grown rapidly every year since it was established in 2004 and now contains more than 12,500 profiles. “About 140,000 people visit the portal at the same time in peak periods,” she added.
Despite there being more women than men in the country, most visitors to Mamba are men: they form 52 percent of the site’s audience. Sixty-two percent of users live in Russia, 20 percent in the other post-Soviet countries, and the rest are elsewhere in the world. About half of Russian visitors live in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Most visitors are 23 to 33 years old, followed by teenagers and people in their middle and late 30s. The majority are students, professionals and managers with university degrees.
Although men spend twice more time daily on dating Web sites than women, women are more active and send more messages than men. But men are more willing to spend money on dating services. One record-holder spent about $6,000 over four days to keep his profile in pole position and to attract female attention. Another spent $4,400 over three days. Women never spend that much.
Despite numerous negative myths about online dating, many users say they are happy with this form of communication. “Many users of dating Web sites are too direct and say what they want without any regard for the norms of etiquette, probably because they can remain anonymous. But despite this you have a chance to find the right person,” said Alena, a 32-year old architect who found her boyfriend through a large free dating portal. “I registered not long ago, but I have received most messages from nice, intelligent ladies,” said Lautisse, a 24-year old artist. “The only thing that makes me annoyed is the messages from gay men. I’m fed up with having to explain that I am heterosexual.”
There are more than 400,000 gays and lesbians registered on Mamba, and probably many more on other Russian dating Web sites. This large army could compete with any Love Parade in West European capitals.
Besides “general” dating Web sites, there are many that specialize in introducing Western men to potential brides from the former Soviet Union. “Eastern Europe is famous for beautiful, attractive and very well-educated ladies, who treasure traditional family values. These women are well-known for their loyalty, faithfulness, kindness, understanding and devotion to their husbands, children and families. They see marriage as a lifelong commitment, they become best friends, perfect wives and excellent mothers,” said Olga Nazarova, a director at the London-based Harmony dating agency. Most of the women who register with the agency are aged 25 to 45. They are from different social backgrounds and include students, single mothers, teachers, business ladies and doctors. Most of the men are aged 35 to 55 years old. Many of them are educated professionals and business people who have traveled or worked in Russia and Eastern Europe, and some have interest in foreign culture, history or art. Since 2003, Harmony has helped many ladies and gentlemen to meet each other, and some of them got married.
Nowadays there are dozens of such Web sites, making contact between people from different countries and cultures much easier. “It has always been the case that the dating industry in the former Soviet states simply takes the job more seriously. Most other sites feature ‘real’ pictures of ladies - taken at home, at the beach etc., but with their own camera. They are always amateur, usually pretty poor quality, and not what you would call glamorous. Sites in the former Soviet Union, on the other hand, feature almost entirely professional pictures. Looking between other sites and then sites from post-Soviet states is like looking through someone's family photo albums, then reading a lingerie catalogue,” said 34-year old Jon from England who has met several beautiful ladies through dating Web sites.
Les, a 44-year old businessman from the United States, agrees: “Girls from the former Soviet Union are also a lot more feminine. I never see them running around looking like they just woke up. They take pride in the way they look. American women only try to look nice if they’re going some place special or to a disco.”
“My fiancée was supposed to be a scammer - I was aware of her reputation before I met her, but I was prepared to give her a chance. It was the best thing I have ever done in my life,” said Brian, a 57-year old businessman from Northern Ireland who is soon to marry a 30-year old ex-model.
Scammers are still a serious problem for Western men looking for Russian or East European wives and girlfriends, and a whole support-industry has grown to combat them. There are already several databases of scammers with fraudsters’ pictures on the Web, and some detective a

"soon to marry a 30-year old ex-model." Poor Brian. If only he knew...
Yep,
The part about ' the 30- year old ex-model' and support industry, gave the guy away.
I'm betting WriterMoscow is a Yank who owns a Pay-Per-Letter agency operating out of US of A.
