Hi, does anybody know if you can get an entry visa at airport in Chisinau, Moldova? My friend from India wants to visit me, but there is no any Moldovan Embassy in India, neither in neighboring countries so i thought the best decision would be to get a visa at the airport on arrival in Chisinau. I dont know thought if this is still possible... i would really apreciate your help and advices! Thank you
I think you should try google and/or the Moldovan Embassy for the answer. Countries have all sorts of agreements with each other regarding the neccesity of visas.
Starting January 01, 2007 only the Diplomatic Missions and Consular Offices of Moldova abroad will issue visas for entering and transiting the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
In exceptional cases, visas could be issued by the Consular Offices at the Moldovan border, only upon the approval of the Consular Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
According to the legislative act Starting the 1st of January 2007 the visa regime for the citizens of the member states of the European Union, United States of America, Canada, the Swiss Confederation and Japan is abolished. Therefore, the citizens of the mentioned countries will be able to enter the Republic of Moldova and stay there for a period up to 90 days within six months without a visa.
For citizens of Israel and Turkey, applying for a 6 and 12 months visa a letter of invitation from a private person or an organization is required. For citizens of all other countries, but those mentioned above, a letter of invitation from the Bureau for Migration and Asym of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova is required for all types of visa.
I did some searching, and did not find a clear answer. But one of the pages I saw said that if Moldova has no consular office in your country, then you can obtain a visa at Chisinau Airport.
IF what that page said was accurate -- AND the rules haven't change since -- then it would seem to depend on whether Moldova has an embassy/consulate in India.
But I would certainly want to confirm this with a Moldovan government office, or at least a travel agency with plenty of experience in travel to Moldova.
Also, it looks like a visitor will need a suitable letter of invitation, even if he/she can get a visa at the airport.
Guys, I actually travel to and from this airport twice a month and its not had this service since 2007 when EU/USA etc passport holders stop needing a visa. As FSULover mentioned you may be able to get it at the airport if you arrange this but its unlikely that they would do it without good reason. Also even if they did the airlines flying to moldova may not let you board in the first place. Of course iuvilina is in moldova, so like Beemer says why not ask someone at the airport or speak to the people who issued the invitation?
