I the middle of September I'll meet my fiancee in Sevastopol for a couple of weeks and I really don't know much about the area. Is this area a heavily tourist dominated area like Yalta is? Is there any night life... clubs, bars, music, cultural etc? Any comments on the beaches... rocky or sandy?
Thanks bowhunter, I have learned a lot about Sevastopol in the last few days and I anticipate a wonderful time there in September. I wish you good luck with your future trips to Ukraine.
I was in Sevastopol. I found very little to do there, except for the shipyard tour. I did not see real beaches either, just people jumping from the docks. I don't know about nightlife because I spent those hours indoors ;-)
In summary, based on my experience, if you want to enjoy your trip, rent a car and drive to Yalta and other attractions in the area I did so and had a good time.
I think all the beaches in Crimea are pebble but not sure. Yalta was fun but like my friend said its the most expensive village in Ukraine. try crimea-ukraine.com there is some info there about a few places to stay and things to do. there are buses and you can hire a driver if you can negotiate. the view while driving around Crimea is incredible I loved it.
Greetings! I happened in Sevastopol! It's a beautiful city!
It is located round several bays and consequently enough big and inconvenient for movement. Usually local residents go on foot much. But don't worry there is buses and cabs. In a city it is a lot of night clubs and discos. It is a city with rich history, it has the special status in Ukraine and submits only to Kiev (capital).
In the majority beaches stony, but are also the sandy. Tell about the preferences concerning it to your half. I am sure, she will help you with that.
The city is much more, than Yalta. Yalta is just resort city, and Sevastopol is a city strategic. In a city it is a lot of military men Russian and Ukrainian as there exist both the Russian and Ukrainian military units.
In port it is a lot of ships and submarines. And certainly it is a lot of museums, about sea and military subjects.
If you have questions, ask. I will try to answer.
