That's the first time I heard that claim. I enjoy the show, as well as legal TV and radio shows. I have used the knowledge I got from them in real legal issues and even in court. I don't think they would be allowed to say it is real if it isn't. Some legal aspects are subjective. It is up to the judge many times. Different judges have different interpretations of the law. They go into more detail than in real court for the TV audience. Some of what they say is irrelevant and if it real, the real judge will tell you so.
I think would be a scandal if someone told on them or somehow they were found out, if it's not real. I recall seeing old news reports of fake contestants in game shows from the 50's. They are no longer allowed by law.
Assuming it's real, I wonder if it's someone we know.
"He control me" he probably did. not defending her but gee wizz wally, did he really expect or have a chance to find anything remotely like her in the states? NOT A CHANCE. He probably hooked up with the first girl who paid attention to him...or rather his wallet. If your not attractive in a western country then you probably arent going to be all that attractive in the FSU either.
One thing I noticed that stood out. And there is some TV commercial that has the same thing - the one with the rich Russian guy and his miniature giraffe. Over the years, almost all movies and TV shows (in America)that portray Russians have them use this "Russian" accent. I have never heard a 'real' Russian speak this way - ever. That begs me to wonder. Is bowhunter on to something? And why would a man who supposedly has already gone through 'real' court proceedings want to humiliate himself on national TV? It is known that JJ is a small claims court with a limited award ability. Why would a reasonable man sue for forty-five thousand dollars in small claims court?
It just doesn't add up. And if a woman was being fraudulent yet had a story of 'abuse' or other claims, why would she just come out and admit she only married the man for a green card?
As they say on 'Myth Busters', "This one is BUSTED!"
People that choose to be on court TV are offered an incentive by the production company to do so. Usually, a court fee waiver or something to that extent. My guess--in this situation--if anything maybe the guy really wanted to shame his ex-wife on national television? And according to the clip he wasn't suing for 45k but rather he wanted to recoup a portion of that loss since he knew legally he can't recoup the entire amount. Ultimately, that smaller amount warranted a visit to small claims court and he was awarded 5k. I'm not saying that it was fake or real-I'm just pointing out there's no real evidence to think it's other than authentic.
The real issue is how easily this guy was duped by this woman. It's what makes this whole concept of Internet dating abroad scary.
"I have never heard a 'real' Russian speak this way - ever."
She did not talk much either. I was hoping she would talk a little more. Russia is a big place. Even in the US, there are many accents. You could not possibly have heard all Russian accents.
The lady in the film claims she is a Muslim. There are not that many Muslims in Russia, either (10-15%). I hear the lady that I work with telling people sometimes, "I am Russian from Uzbekistan." She may not be Russian at all.
"And why would a man who supposedly has already gone through 'real' court proceedings want to humiliate himself on national TV?"
Money. He was paid for his appearance. Or, perhaps he didn't see this as a humiliaton, but to warn others.
"It is known that JJ is a small claims court with a limited award ability. Why would a reasonable man sue for forty-five thousand dollars in small claims court?"
He didn't sue for $45,000. He can't. This is small claims court. $5,000 is the limit. $45,000 is how much he is out. No lawyers are allowed small claims court. If he got a lawyer, that would mean more expense. If he didn't get a lawyer, the lady might get one and he would have to go against the lawyer.
If he wins the $45,000 in court, that doesn't mean he gets it. She can file for bankruptcy. If she doesn't, it is still up to him to collect - garnish wages, bank accounts, other property, if she doesn't pay willingly. Before he could do that, she is allowed a reasonable living expense a place to stay, a car. He is probably aware that collecting the $5,000 will not be easy. Why go for $45,000?
The way these court shows work is that there is a cash pool available that both sides vie for. I don't recall the amount but for the sake of the discussion lets say it's $5000.
Say one side wins a judgement of $2000. That amount comes from the pot of $5000 and then the remaining $3000 is split between both sides.
Of course, if one side wins a judgement of $5000 (or in this episode more than $5000), the losing side receives nothing.
I also recall reading some years ago that they do scour the courts for interesting cases and try to convince both sides to bring it to TV.
As far as the validity of the accent, I have worked years as an engineer and it is a field where many people from other lands are employed; I have heard many accents from FSU countries and I found nothing to lead me to that accent being phony.
I can't say that I have heard English accented exactly like hers, but I don't hear anything that makes me doubt that she is a native speaker of Russian.
The name Albina is not at all common. Combined with her Muslim religion, her natural dark hair color (as shown by her eyebrows), and the shape of her face -- not typically Slavic, to my eyes -- I would guess her to be from the south: I would guess the Caucasus (either in or near Russia), or peruaps one of the 'stans' (southern former Soviet republics).
This guy already knew it was a "slam dunk" to get the 5k, he already had the annulment and it was already determined by the Utah judge that he was defrauded by her. If he went to a normal court to seek civil action against her he would have got a judgment against her... however it would be useless because she had no way to pay, she did not even have a job. This way at least he got 5k of it back.

I forgot to add was likely she didn't have the money to pay the judgement. Of course, it doesn't explain why he filed in the first place unless he thought he could collect from future earnings.
As I sit here waiting, and waiting, to sell my house I watch 'Judge Judy' daily, the maximum amount her court can award is $5,000, even if she agrees that a claimant is due in excess of $5.000 she can only award the maximum allowed.
my comment was based on my experience with news and what I call TV land reality shows.I often wonder what is real or staged on most TV programs. if I find it interesting enough I will when time permits look up facts to check what the host or reality show has claimed. I must admit I am not a viewer of much TV. I do often wonder why so many people often fallow like sheep when they are being led or told what is supposed facts when it comes to, well mostly news.
back to the situation at hand. it is my personal belief that if you don't have a spine or the experience with women, you have no business searching in a foreign land for a perspective partner. I also think that if you do not have a pair of gonadz you should just stay home or have some one coach you. the man in the video seemed like the kind of guy who fell for the feminism fed here in America. I think a man with an alpha personality or reasonable amount of experience with women can and do find some great women in the FSU. I think men who are in touch with there feminine side have a target painted on them in the first few letters or meetings. these women are very attractive and have no problem making a better life for them self. it takes an experienced man to be able to read between the lines. as for me I will soon find out if I made the correct choice. Tomorrow I will be sending the required documents and documentation for the fiance visa.
I am sure my comment will create some debate and might even start some name calling. I will tell you in advance I will not stoop to name calling or bashing others. after all it is just a computer and all tho I derive some income from the Internet I do have a life outside forum's and my computer screen.
Bowhunter:
No name calling here, but...
... I may be very lucky, because I am shy geek who had very little experience with women prior to beginning my search in FSU. Fortunately I finally found a wonderful girl who really loves me, and I never got scammed in the process. It took time and patience, as well as constant learning, but I succeeded and have nothing to regret.
I think that the FSU (like any other place) has girls for every type, as long as men think with the right head :-)
No bashing here either, bowhunter. I may have once or twice in this forum, but I don't name call or cuss. If I bash, it is usually because I have been. Of course, I could let it go, but they escalate and make a habit of it. Advice or coaching is great except if it is insisted.
I can't comment much because I don't know very much about the male and female side of us. I know we all have both. You can attempt to, but you cannot or should not change your personality for the sake of a mate. We can play with your statement by asking how about someone who has a female side, but has a spine or gonads to go anyway?
I think I touched a nerve with you and the video. I don't think they are following like sheep. A few agree, a few disagree and others are non commital. I was watching this video on TV and I thought it would be helpful here, so I looked it up on youtube. This is not an isolated incident. It has also happened to some forum members. I am just want people to be aware of what can happen.
Good luck to you. I hope to follow your lead in a few months.
FSU to many who do not have experience think with the little head or fall for the first one who pays them some attention. I knowingly dated a scammer so I would know exactly what to look out for and how the game is played. it also helps if you have reasonable amount of intelligence, based on some I have met going over there I only hope there not being played.
