New Year's Eve! The most amazing display of fireworks I ever witnessed happened last year when I was in Russia for NYE. Not that it was as spectacular as the Philly display on the waterfront as a single event. But that it was everywhere. The locals celebrate way into the night. And different neighborhoods or areas seemed to compete with each other with their fireworks displays. It went on for hours - bigger city of course. Even the locals in the neighborhood were setting off fireworks. It was like the 4th of July in America. Anyone who could get their hands on firecrackers, roman candles, anything that you lit and had to run away etc. were setting them off into the night. I imagine it must be the same in Ukraine.
For those of you who get a chance to be there it is a SWELL time. And if you are there, hopefully you are with a nice lady and have the opportunity to experience her in the most festive of occasions. We decided to be home before midnight to have a quiet celebration of our own. That her place was high enough with a great view, we had a 270 degree view of the city and all the fireworks. Very cool experience. An interesting thing is that on NYE many of the revelers are wearing santa claus hats. Way many more than would do so in America for a Christmas celebration party. They were EVERYWHERE!
Happy New Year to all!
Muzzy, thanks. I apologize to all for baiting and getting into it with a certain member. Just a little fun out of a little frustration. It's a new year - although every day is the beginning of a new year. Wish you all the best. Haven't heard from danny in a few days. Unusual don't you think? Maybe he is having such a good time he has no time for this. Good for him. Let us know when you come up for air that you are still alive and well and not in some far eastern jail.
It seems apparent that no others have spent a New Years Eve in Russia. I highly recommend it if you ever get the chance. Next year for me for sure - every other year has been agreed upon. And the 2014 winter Olympics for a month. The every other year thing works out! But it will be a slight delay for 2014.
