You guys tell me I should change banks, but have not told me how much you were charged for an ATM withdrawal in Ukraine. My bank charges $2 for ATM withdrawals from other ATM's and still, the owner of the ATM gets paid. Without exception, no matter the amount, I have been charged $7 for an ATM withdrawal in Ukraine. That's $5 for the ATM owner and $2 for Bank of America. I don't know of any bank that doesn't charge for ATM withdrawals from other ATM's. Therefore, I doubt if any of you were charged much less than $7 for an ATM withdrawal.
1,000 in Hryvnia's at a time, yorkie? That's what I mean. That's only $125 USD. Fees would cost $28 for a $500 withdrawal and you have to visit four ATM's. You would have to look for FSULover's ATM that will give you $500 USD. That's 40 100 Hryvnia bills, isn't it? That's a lot of bills coming from one ATM.
Odessa is expensive. If you take a lady for a nice dinner at the Steakhouse, then to Fanconi for a drink, then to Captain Morgan for some dancing, you'll easily spend $200-300 for the night.
I'd suggest bringing half your money in cash--new $100s, and keep half in your bank account for use at ATM's.
Of course it's possible to take more than 500 hrv from the ATM. 2000 is often the limit but you can do more than one withdrawal for more.
Some ATMs in Odessa charge a huge amount for withdrawing from a foreign account. I got charged 13% once, without knowing it of course. The best thing to do is to check your balance online and you will see which ATMs have a lower rate.
Try to use ATMs that are inside a bank. I've known of several guys whose card number got skimmed at ATMs on the street.
I also think 3 months will be too long for your first trip. Go for one month, two cities, and then come home and evaluate whether you want to go for longer.
Bank of America is not the only bank around. In fact, it is my experience that they are the most expensive. Even when I go to a BofA ATM and they charge me that pesky $2, my bank gives me that money back.
And as an example, my wife just went to Russia and was able to withdraw 10K Rubles at once. That is more than $300.
In terms of fees, unless I am getting ripped off with the exchange rate, I don't know of any European ATM that charges a fee on top of the withdrawal. In my experience it is only in America.
I went to the Bahamas last summer (A different country), went to an ATM and withdrew $200 in Bahamian dollars (one-to-one exchange with American dollars) and my statement only showed a $200 withdrawal (American). No extra fees whatsoever. Try accomplishing that with BofA.
TopSandwich, why would I spend $200,$300 on a lady per night? This is what makes scamming easy in Ukraine. Rich people who give give give. And if a woman suggests spending any amounts of this, She is using you because she won't not be doing this to local men since they don't even have this type of cash to begin with.
FSU, are you trying to tell me that the $7 the ATM's charged me all goes to BofA? If I had another bank I would not get charged that? How does the owner of the ATM get paid? If your bank paid you what you withdrew only, wouldn't they have to pay the owner of the ATM from their own pocket?
Still, I will not change banks. ATM withdrawals are free and bofa ATM's are everywhere. The only time I use another ATM is in Ukraine, and as I have stated, I will probably use the ATM minimally if at all.
I told my wife that if I won $100,000,000 in the lottery I would still keep her.
Her response: "If I won $100,000 I would keep you." Hmmmmm?
yes durak, if I had known about this fifteen years ago???? Life is an adventure. Always learning and always moving to newer places. And as long as we continue to learn and move we are living. And having hope is a part of it also. He who gives up hope gives up life.
rb - part of me wants to ignore this and part me wants to say, "What the fuck are you talking about?" I guess the second part won. How about instead of sending $5 so huggies can supply diapers to the needy I just buy a case and send them to you. Oh? I forgot you are a couple years past diapers.

" I am not a bargain hunter since i'm not cheap. Women don't like cheap men either. Neither do I. "
These were written by the same guy.
Gotta admit - this guy sounds a little bit like Nooga - except without the unusual Australian mannerisms.
Muzzy that was not unprovoked. You of all people should know it. You were on the thread where he started it.
So what is the reason, Ralph? Next time you are having a bad day, don't take it on me. You're not far from diapers yourself. Adult diapers. Do you think you're wife is going to stick around and put it on for you?
could be another nooga. but this guy isn't spouting on about conquering ukrainian women. if he has that in mind and is nothing more than a sex tourist at least he is young enough to get away with it and not bragging about it. if he is really looking for someone long term he should be a little more discrete with his money. these women are not fools. and will use whatever they can to separate him from his money. unless of course he meets his princess over there. if he does meet someone she will want to know about the others he met up with. and she will assume he is on an adventure. sex tourist, they know the expression and will call you out if it appears you are just on holiday to get laid. there are other ways to impress a lady than flashing money around. like I say, these women are not fools. and the younger ones are in no hurry to leave.
