It was on the Russian news. Sad that some radical knucklehead brings attention to us by going on a rampage. The amazing thing is I was asked if American politicians actually do meet with people. Yes was the answer. In public forums and in person. I said I can go to my congressman's office at any time - sometimes meet with him if it is serious.
"In Russia, if politician went to public place he would already be shot... " Interesting point of view or rather just plain interesting that the "locals" have this feeling towards those in charge.
Russians can own hunting rifles. My Russian brother in law has one. Keeps wanting me to go hunting and tells me I can rent a rifle to hunt with. Surprised me too!
According to Russia's gun laws, Russian citizens can buy smoothbore shotguns, such as, for example Saiga 12, gas pistols, or revolvers shooting rubber bullets. Safe use of one of the above weapons for five years allows purchase of a rifle or carbine.
ie: Wikipidia( I know...I am doing aging bull's job now!!!!!)
I know...you need MORE than 2 sources for facts......
Are you sure that the people are describing their "feelings"?
We describe our own politicians as such in the west but in the east the politicians truly are criminals and thugs.
They will be shot by criminal rivals, not by mentally ill youngsters who should have been diverted years ago into a medical facility as seems to be the case with the shooter in the states.
I’m willing to bet, there are a lot more guns over there than anyone realizes. The taxi driver who drove me from Odessa to Nikolaev and Kherson, was originally from Vladivostok. He hunted moose up near Murmansk, which is really far north for them. But he had a rifle, and also said something about shot guns,, with three bb shot or slugs,,, it could be similar to Canada’s SSG or CCG?? He spoke very little English! He showed me the picture of his moose on his cell phone screen!! I then did a moose call, and he almost drove off the road!! Lol I started up my computer and showed him my hunting photos! A few days later when he came to pick me up, he brought his photo album ,,,,,and his daughter!! I think,, only because she could speak good English,,, but to this day,,, I still wonder!! She was gorgeous, but young! How young??? I don’t know????? But I do know, he was younger than I was!! And I needed to get to the next city in one piece!! Lol
Back in Dec of 1998, I had a tour of Moscow’s three big malls; GUM, Platza, and a third mall. It was at the underground mall, Platza, on the far end of the lower level, behind the ice cream stand and arcade,,,, was a gun store!!! Very small, but they had a nice selection of hand guns, and antiques hanging on the walls !!?? The store owner was looking at me,, my then date, and now present ex-wife, was looking at me, and a few people near by??!! I don’t know if they expected me to buy one,,, because I am an American?? Everyone was acting very strange,,,, I sometimes wonder if they weren’t black market goods?? I do know, I would not want to be caught with one!!
Our politicians do meet the public from time to time. We are hoping to get our new State Governor; Scott Walker to do an honorary “First Tree Tapping” ceremony at our Sugar Bush this spring!! Will we,,, don’t know yet?? We did have Tommy Thompson here in 1986!! Along with state senators and assembly men!!
In 2006 or 2007, I wandered into a new and rather pricey-looking shopping center in Saint Petersburg, which included a medium-sized shop selling guns. The walls were lined with guns on display. I'm not a "gun person" (I don't pretend to know much about them), but what I saw was suggestive to me of the armory at a military base. I'm pretty confident that this shop was not limited to shotguns and hunting rifles!
Maybe it was a gun museum, where people come only to look at them ;)
Seriously, many things that are plainly illegal in Russia (and in fact, almost everywhere in the world) are common daily practice there.
just like in America, when they outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns.
baron, Russians are not allowed to own heroin, but it is widely used there.
I recall last year there were many Russians partridge hunting when I was there. All day while hiking we heard shotguns blasting away.
I believe the information on this subject is antiquated. The law in Russia was changed allowing citizens without criminal records to own hunting rifles, but not hand guns, sniper or assault rifles.
When I asked a lady in Moldova years ago if there was anything special I could bring her - she asked me to bring her a handgun. Seems the US has a reputation for everybody having one. And her opinion is that in Moldova only criminals have guns - therefore private citizens are at a huge disadvantage as thsy can't get them - unless they have money.
When I went to Ukraine recently and talked with her by telephone - she told me that her mother had had a dream concerning me getting beat up. She practically begged me to bring a handgun for my own protection.
