I read that article. What is more interesting than the article itself are the comments posted about it. Some provocative and others just plain rubbish. rb does a decent job of defending against some of the comments. But for sure if you want a good chuckle give it a look. I think the article did not shed a good light on the subject and opened it to ridicule. But after reading the comments I can say I am very secure in my decision to meet and marry and exceptional woman from Russia.
And I think that most men who decide to look to another country for a woman are far from losers as some attempt to imply. Here is a chance to throw in your two cents to the general public about this. Post a comment to the article.
Well, I must get to cleaning the stove and kitchen while my slave wife is still asleep. It was I who caused the spattering when I cooked our dinner again last night. So it will be me who cleans my own mess.
Business Week - a very respectable buisness publication in the US - has a story highlighted on the front cover about the boom in "Mail Order Brides". What they are really talking about though is professional and accomplished people who are sick of the meager offerings available for brides in their own countries who go to foreingn places and find wives. Its NOT a negative article at all - and mentions letter writing AND (my favorite) Romance Socials.
Uh-oh. Competition could suddenly increase for us.
Okay - article is a bit negative. (Must admit I just skimmed it at first).
But what can you expect? We have to deal with Policical Correctness (can't be suggesting that local women are undesireable) and bias against foreigners. Besdies there is eny and jealousy against who are truly finding something that makes them happy. (Can't offend established readers for whom the bloom is far off the rose of their own relationships and they are left with Sea Hags).
I totally agree that this publication is above most. It is interesting though. Can it be suggestive to think that it is geared towards the entrepreneurial types who may look for another avenue for the mighty greenback? When you consider the publication and its audience, it may not be a far fetched idea. Maybe it will bring competition - good competition. Or perhaps maybe it will open up a few new avenues for meeting ladies that are less egregious than the existing perpetrators.
What was the motive behind this article? A public service piece? That there are opportunities available for men fed up with American women? Or that there are business opportunities? For sure the Jerry Springer crowd doesn't read this. But I did notice a lash out from the extreme feminists. Everything from slave marketing to only big fat loser men go this route.
IMHO, the msnbc piece wasn't too bad. It was nice to see couples actually giving their point of view on a live show - and of course John Adams is very obviously a well practiced mouthpiece!
I just love that the business week article quotes a womens-lib activist. Naturally, we can expect an unbiased opinion there, then! :D
And they wonder why fellas doing this don't like journalists!
The last time, circa 17 years ago, I had dealings with a journalist I was arrested, charged, and I pleaded guilty to assault (and criminal damage) whilst trying to ram his camera down his throat ... Despite my 'guilty' plea the judge declined, refused, to convict me on the grounds that the journalist deserved everything he got and more. :)
Do I have any time, any respect, for journalists ... well go figure. :)
1) "A lot of people who are attracted to it are just looking for a woman who's docile and obedient"
Probably I chose the wrong woman, or I don't have the right training skills for obedience.
2) "The Tahirih Justice Center, a nonprofit organization in Falls Church, Va., that PROTECTS immigrant women"
EXPLOITS would be a more fitting word.
3) "men who, according to Weiner, "don't have the money to go out on dates and go on weekends to Vegas and Atlantic City"
I thought that the stereotype was that we are all RICH, fat, old, and bald :-). My dreams of being rich have been shattered :-)
4) "they might not have the means to secure a more conveniently located TROPHY wife"
5) "The arrangement can be far worse for the women involved"
I did not know my marriage was an arranged one :-)
6) "You take a beautiful woman from the Czech Republic and you bring her into your home, she does all your cooking and cleaning and ironing," he says. "At the end of the day, the service is free."
I need to change my order, because my wife came defective: I still have to cook my own meals, and help with cleaning and ironing. Maybe it has something to do with the lack of obedience training :-)
I love it when somebody writes FACTS about a subject they have no experience with. Usually the experts are those with absolutely no experience regarding the topic. Businessweek must not be so respectable after all if it allows articles written by "experts" with absolutely no clue about the topic.
Is it a requirement for authors to experience the topic they write about? The magazine writer is quoting people because he has no experience. I don't believe he wrote this as an expert nor is he stating many of these quotes as facts. Readers are to make their own determination.
has a story highlighted on the front cover about the boom in "Mail Order Brides
There is no such thing as a Mail Order Bride.....it's illegal.
Any publication that even mentions this phrase, IMO, is worthless and just being sensational.

Please elaborate FSU.....like to hear your $0.10 worth?? :-)
Geez...so much info in that article....where do you start??? Let's see, getting a
trophy wife?......$2000 for a beautiful girl....savings of $150 a week( I thought it would have been at least $250)....someone to cook, clean and answer to your desires? Those weekend trips to Cabo and Vegas that really never happened!!!!
Guess my approach in this endeavour is completely wrong...according to this article ...who could be bothered to look for love or that special someone...........
the article was not important to me only the mention of my web site. he asked quite a few questions and I answered them then he quoted a few. I am obviously not an expert on the subject.
I think I talked to him for a half hour, and he followed it up with a few emails for verification. Who can be an expert on the subject? To be an expert one would have to have experience it several times. Marriage is a one time thing.
I never read the article. Doubtful if anything new to be found there.
The MOB thing is just a page filler...starts a debate about the ethics of it. For a few weeks there are ramblings and vitiol from people who like to attack others for choosing a different approach to life and love.
Expect the same article next year with the words chnged round a bit.
