Hello!! I have been having conversations with a woman firstly who i met through a dating site then through private emails with each other.
Things seem to be going very well until the subject of meeting came up. I ofered to go to meet her in russia since i was on holiday. after a few discussions about travel plans and visas etc. she decided that it would be better if she would come to see me instead but, needed to make all the documents etc. nearly 500 EUR before flights.
I am not sure what to do as i would like to meet her but do not want to be another victim of a scam.
If anyone could offer some advice it would be appreciated.
Many thanks
hey, if she wants to spend her euros to come visit you rather than you spend your money visiting her, then let her, it shows she is sincere. I don't see the issue.
Be careful dude. That Russian chick might be lying.
I have been a VIP member on this site for nine days and already met 4 fake women. They send letters to you and within a few days they start asking for money. I sometimes feel that the only way to meet serious women in Ukraine is to go on "A foreign affair" romance tour. They are a good company and the women seem real. But i stay a member on this site because there are a few women from AFA co. that has a profile on this website too. So there is a chance they might be real. Plus is alot cheaper to send letters here than AFA site. :)
Be careful with women who have thousands of letters written to her, she could be working for the agency hired to just too talk with men.
My strategy is to always assume that the women are fake. I just play along with writing them letters until they make the mistake of asking me for money. Then i completely stop talking to them.
Thanks for the replies.
FSU why do you think or bet me that she will never get the visa to visit me? I would be interested to know how you arrived at that conclusion.
I can answer that I think. because it is a common scam used by women to ask you to send money for visa etc and don't even have the courtesy to thank you as they disappear searching for the next victim. I was being facetious assuming she was planning to make the trip and get everything she needed using her own money. And if that is the case good for you. But under no circumstances do you send her a dime, euro or whatever.
That's around 3 months salary. She aint going to spend that to visit a guy she's never met abroad. Convenient round figure that. She will not be able to leave the country without proof that she will return, evidence of where she is going and where she is staying, what for etc etc.
You are being scammed.
frenchy, its a bit difficult giving you any advice with such little info,, what country do you live in? whose paying for this plane ticket and how is she asking for it if shes asking? what reasons she gave its better to come to you? has she traveled before?
500 EUR thats expensive paper work, mine cost me 100US$ plus postage of documents to russia for her to visit new zealand under sponsorship.
dont ya hate it when the govt scam ya as well, but yes this is a common style scam, most if not all here would have seen it at one time or another..
not saying this is, but it dont look good.
Thanks everyone. I have decided if we are to meet, that we meet in London. If she can make it to there I have no problem paying for her to come to France. I think now that If she thought it was better to meet me here then, she should have had her passport already. Just to point out to everyone she has not directly asked me to pay for this but, it does come up in our conversations.
Here is a breakdown of what she apparently needs
passport 75 EUR.
Medical 73 EUR.
visa - 87 EUR.
registration process 64 EUR.
travel agency services 72 EUR.
medical information 58 EUR.
questionnaires and check 30 EUR.
French, if you are from France, she will need a Schengen visa. The requirements to get such visa are extremely tough in FSU countries and they start with proof that she can pay the whole trip by herself and proof that she'll return home because she has enough assets at home to tie her back to it ...
... it is a bad start if she even does not have money to pay for the visa.
P.S.: Don't believe the story of the friend who works in a travel agency and can guarantee the visa.
the friend in travel agency,, hell its a mystery where to find travel agency's over there full stop:)
from what i understand some European country's are easing up on Russians and visa's.
Spain, France, Italy have only just done some changes in the last week I'm told.
what exactly I'm a little unsure,, Spain they are granted a 2 year visa for second successful application and a 5 year on third application, what other changes i dont know, unsure how France and Italy fit into this..
someone on here will know
Read frenchfrog's first post again. Nowhere does he say that SHE is offering to pay these fees with her own money. He doesn't say antying about who is going to pay one way or the other but he seems to imply that HE will pay when he says "I am not sure what to do as i would like to meet her but do not want to be another victim of a scam." How could he be scammed if she is paying?
In this case it must be especailly stressed our number 1 rule - NEVER SEND MONEY TO A GIRL YOU AHVEN"T MET. And follwing close behind NEVER BELEIVE A GIRL WHEN SHE SAYS SHE HAS A FRIEND WHO CAN GET HER A VISA, PAPERS, TICKET, ECT. We all know that there is corruption - but this scam is the oldest and most common in the book. If it looks too good to be true it proabably is.
I have a friend who was receiving letters from a girl in Russia. She was also writing to me having acquired both of our email addresses from Yahoo Personals. I wrote back to her and told her I was not interested as I had already REALLY met someone in Ukraine. He continued to write her getting better and more beautiful photos with ever letter.
One day he tol me that she had offered to come to our home airport to him, but that she needed $800 for the papers and the visa (she had friends in the offices too). I advised him NOT TO DO IT - telling him it was the oldest scam out there. But he claimed he was in love with her alread from her letters.
Mutual friends claim he sent her the money and showed up at the airport at the appointed time - with a bunch of roses waiting for her to get off the plane. Of course she was not there.
To this day he denies he ever sent the money or waited at the airport - to me. But many say he did.
Another point - in Eastern Europe there is no such thing as "going dutch" or "you pay at the restaurant tonight and I will pay tomorrow". Its just assumed that the MAN - especially if he is a western man - will pay.
On further reading I see that frenchfrog said "she has not directly asked me to pay for this but, it does come up in our conversations. " I think you can be pretty sure that she expects you to pay.
England is known as one of the toughest countries to get into - I believe it's harder than anywhere on mainland Europe. Remember that it's the destination country that decides the visa, not the country of origin. If you want to know the price and requirements for the visa, go on the destination country's website, which usually displays the price, process and lead time of application clearly.
If you want to try London, go to the UKBA website: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visitingtheuk/visitors/
If you want a visa for France, go to your own government's border agency website, and find out directly - not through her or any agency she's using.
There is no mystery to this application. There is NO REASON to send money for an 'agent' that you have to pay to process it on your behalf. She can do the application herself, you can see it on the website. Sending money off into the ether is like throwing it away for no reason.
I brought two girls over in 2010 (to do with work, not related to dating), admittedly from Ukraine and not Russia. The application was straightforward, by the numbers, and didn't involve ANY of the following:
"Medical 73 EUR.
registration process 64 EUR.
travel agency services 72 EUR.
medical information 58 EUR.
questionnaires and check 30 EUR."
Both of them are charity workers, being paid less than the average salary for Ukraine. Both of them paid for everything except the flight themselves.
How is the 'medical' a separate fee to 'medical information'? How is the 'registration process' separate to the visa? registration for what? Apart from paying for the flight, what would you be paying for 'travel agency services' for? Like I said, the visa application is direct, from her, online, (assuming a shengen visa is the same as a UK visa, which I suspect it will be)
Sorry to say this, but it all sounds very suspicious.
ok, frenchy,,
i don't know about this,, meaning i wouldn't do such this way,, i have always liked meeting on their home ground, also makes a interesting trip..
if she had happened to be holidaying in Thailand, Egypt or such, then no problem..
i just wouldn't put up any funds and then arrange stuff for them myself, without having met them first.
its just to open to wasting ones time effort and funds,, thats just common sense..
one thing i have found, a lot of these girls can find funds, they are not as poor as you think.
if she has not traveled, i cannot see her getting to England, unless she has property, business or a child and appropriate funds thats accounted for, this is the criteria to western country's wanting to see a reason for returning to Russia .
medical fees?? this sounds very dodgy I'm afraid, its only needed for extended stays, 3 months or more, never have i heard medical needed for a few weeks stay in any country or anything else involving medical, unless someone on here knows different?
if you check embassy site for country of entry, you will see cost and whats needed for her..
then theres her passport, witch is one fee, well depends,,, a done tomorrow price or done in govt time price..

one thing about these girls if and i mean "if" they dictate to you the course of how they should meet and it involves you spending money on them, and you haven't met them before, its an immediate red flag
