Author Post westerngent44 Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 2/17/2011 10:53:19 AM   Hi to everyone here in the forum.my question is why such a facination with these ladies?is it their beauty?charm?what makes them so special to all of you guys here?my preference is asian women,mostly because they smile and are generally happy even tho they are from poor countries.i've visited kiev once,the thing i noticed was no one smiled or looked happy about anything !i understand there lives are much more difficult and uncertain than ours.i'm visiting korea in september !has anyone here been there?i really love reading the posts here when i have some spare time,so looking forward to some positive answers.much appreciated. Her response was that if you smile people will think you are an idiot. And they will try to take advantage of you. Not exactly in those words but close to it. Perhaps it goes back to earlier times when everyone was suspect and people ratted each other out to gain favor from the party. I did notice that people in public did not like to make eye contact or smile and say hello. But when in a casual setting among friends and family they are jovial and laugh and smile. This was in Russia. And there is still a feeling of distrust among the natives. My opinion of course. However it could be that are miserable in their life. I do recall a few people asking me to take their photos on the street. My wife now has a smile on her face all the time. Though she doesn't engage in casual conversations with strangers she will respond to a hello and offer thank you to someone holding a door. I thought they smiled beautifully when you interacted and absolutely adored the ones that didn't. Korea, I was overly surprised how much they drank, their fish cafes or eating houses were too stinky for me to eat in "that stale fish smell", also never liked the idea of fish tanks with tortured fish waiting to be eaten, they looked terrible, worse when I see they are doing it to a fish species that's only caught in new zealand and aussie (they breed them there now) actually there was a lot of stinky streets from eating houses "rubbish waiting for rubbish trucks" I'm guessing rotten fish, from type of smell. but overall a very likeable place, people, with a real wacko next door. lonelyranger1701 Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 2/20/2011 2:18:48 AM   The interest for me,,, is that they are there!!! My guess is that this custom is connected (at least, in part) with the hardness of life in the Russian-speaking world. danny painted an excellent picture for us, of some the difficulties people commonly face. But even beyond that, there are harsh realities of crime, exploitation, and violence. If anybody thinks that Russia etc. is just a rougher, shabbier version of Europe, America, or Australia/NZ: no, it is really different, and there is much more risk of encountering people who are willing and able to harm you in some way. Events are glumly accepted there, that would make the national headlines for weeks in western countries. People go through there lives, knowing in their bones that there are plenty of people Out There who would be happy to "mess you over." About comparing Russians to Asians: to make crude cultural comparisons, where Russians tend to public rudeness (while there are MANY exceptions, perhaps those of us experienced dealing with bureaucrats, officials and "service" workers will understand what I mean), cultures of east Asia tend toward obsessive politeness (one example being, that Japanese will practically never answer with a direct "no" ... if they mean "no," they will express this in a very polite round-about way). To those looking to build a relationship, I think that although Russian culture isn't as truly part of Europe as Russians like to believe, it is closely related to European culture. But in general, the concepts, values and assumptions of Asian cultures are really different from those of Europe. So for a man like myself, whose cultural background originates from Europe, the "cultural divide" would be seriously wider in a relationship with someone from east Asia, than with someone from (say) Russia or Ukraine. There is also a linguistic divide to consider. As strange as Slavic languages may seem to us, they are Indo-European (that is, in the same big family with English). I have met numerous natives of Russia and Ukraine who have truly fluent communication in English. By contrast, it seems to me very rare for a native speaker of Chinese to acquire grammatical English, unless they start studying intensively while very young. I even worked with an engineer who deliberately stopped speaking Chinese with his family when he was about 12 years old, because he had concluded that he would never speak English really well if he continued to live bilingually (his English is not in any way distinguishable from that of an educated native speaker in the USA). These questions are not so simple! If you are from the USA, and you would like to meet foreign women who are sweet and kind, I think there are many possibilities in Latin America. Some of the sweetest gals I have ever met came from places like Colombia and Honduras. They will sue you and take you to cleaners & housekeepers in a divorce court. They will not put up with your less than perfect personality. There are some good ones too, but most will take your money no problem. Don't have wrong impression on western women, those include Baltic countries' women as well. They are not FSU and have never been. I was taken to "cleaners & housekeepers" in a divorce court while Lithuania was kind of still in the SU. The courts are working well there. Went to Internet dating sights and with a very few exceptions the women who contact me are simply matronly. Old dried up definately in bad shape and alot of the smoke They want to bake cakes all day for their grandkids and their idea of travel is to go to a capital city somewhere and stay in the most American hotel they can find. When I go to Ukraine I go out with women as young as 28, I know that's too young and I am not serious about them, they are simply good company. But the realistic ones....40 thru 45 all look like they are 30 anyway! Quite simply they as beautiful as any 30 year old in the US. They have great personalities (mostly) and the most important part is they have minimal expectation of entitlement. Ok Asian women I have found in public to be sweet and docile but when you are alone they are very interested in you working much harder to make more money. Not to mention being a host for all their family members who can come over. South American women, obviously not all, but most, have that thick look common in black women in the US. Not for me. I don't mean fat, I mean a cylindrical figure. Just look at south American women over 30 on afa site. 90% have this build. If they still wish to go out and we hit it off, why not? They can't afford a night on the town ever in a nice resturaunt. They go out to the nicest place they have been, I spend the evening with a charming lady and no one has any false expectations. One of them voulenteers at a orphanage an told such touching stories from Hr work there I'm donating $250 when I'm there. No I'm not sending her the money, we are buying groceries and bringing them there ourselves.
