Hello All. I have done my research on visa journey as many people have mentioned in the past. After going back and forth with my lady in the Ukraine she would prefer to use a K-1 lawyer. I have did the usual Google search and have found a few lawyers I want to call and ask them several questions about their services offered for the K-1 process. The cost for this service is anywhere between $1000 - $1200 US. Does anyone have a lawyer that they used for the K-1 process that they would recommend? Thanks again for any help.
I used one named Larry Holmes back in 1999! He has since moved from the west and went east, and joined a group of lawyers. It will take me some time to find the details. My old computer crashed with all of my contacts in it!!
He didn't do much more than send me the proper papers when needed, but if you ever have any problems, a good lawyer will be needed!!
I don't know why someone would use a lawyer. I know someone who went to Las Vegas and found a paralegal just by cruising the streets and reading a billboard. She then looked at the immigration website and found she could do this herself and save that money.
why would the lady prefer to use a lawyer is the real question. unless there are unusual circumstances or possible legal hurdles a lawyer is not really necessary. however, if you are strapped for time and want to make sure everything is properly filled out etc. then you could use the service of a professional.
I did use a K-1 attorney. it was because of issues that cropped up after we started the process. And I can say for sure that it was money well spent. They had their 'man' in Moscow contact her. They did all the background research and prepped her for the interview. All documents were translated and notarized etc. etc. etc. The whole process went smoothly, the interview lasted five minutes, and she was on a plane within weeks of the interview. the original paperwork was filed in late October and she was in America in 2nd week of March.
One thing this does show is that your are serious - the state department will recognize this. and though it is not advertised I believe my file was pushed through the express lane. working with a reputable firm whom the people at homeland security recognize can make the process go very quickly.
All that said, you don't need a lawyer. just dot your eyes and cross your tees properly and you should have no trouble.
The K-1 visa process is straight forward and actually quite simple. Lawyer is not necessary. If you can fill out applications or do your taxes, you can do this yourself. If you want assistance you can use an on-line service to give you the tips. I did it all myself including the permanent Green card and citizenship after the time period was met. You can do it too. Try the site: usavisanow.com and then go on-line to make sure you have all the up-to-date forms.
