It's the capital city of Romania. I met an engineer who was the first post-Communist mayor of the city (under the circumstances, his complete lack of political background was in his favor).
Gib, it's probably a very interesting town, but it is beyond the edges of the Russian-speaking world to which this forum is oriented. Did you travel yet? I'd be interested to read your impressions.
hey gib doe
i met some moldovian girls. it`s between ukraine and romania.
they speak romanian which is not russian. it sounds like italian.
i hear their are really attractive girls from romania and ukraine.
there is a train from bucharest to chisineu the capital of moldovia.
i heard in summer a lot of girls go to galati and constance which are on the danube and
black sea. i am curious if romania is expensive like russia or cheap as ukraine.
Wh at a cynical way to describe your friends, Danny. You have also been cynical in describing your relatives and even your wife to be. What I mean is you have posted here what I don't believe they would want to hear if you said it to their face.
Why should they bugger off? They can borrow your stuff. That's why they are your friends. Try not lending them your stuff and not hold back. You won't have any friends left. Then you can call them crybabies.
Been to Romania. I didn't do the club thing, but for regular bars I'd say it's not easy. Meet someone online. While the rest of EE and FSU was opining up in the 1980's, Romania was cracking down in ways that make the novel 1984 look like Summer camp. With a brutal secret police and informants everywhere. Bucharest people are still very suspicious of strangers. I'm and American working in Afghanistan and my buddy is an American working in Okinawa. We were asked twice if four hours if we were secret agents of some kind. The rest of Romania dislikes Bucharest and apologized to us for the people there. It's considered one of the rudest cities in Europe. Go to the Transylvania region. It's wonderful. The people are more like the American midwest. They aren't as suspicious, but they still have behaviour patterns that reflect the old times. They go out in groups of five or six (mixed male and female)and huddle around a table talking with each other. I have the impression that the way you date is that your friend's girlfriend hooks you up with her friend. Only a couple of times did I see a woman or a couple of women by themselves in a bar. I did not do the club thing, though. I wouldn't have had a chance though. I brought comfy clothes for travel, the Romanians think Americans dress like slobs and are not impressed. If I go back, I'm going to the mall and going to get a nice young lady in a store help me pick out clothes.
One interesting though...the perception of beauty varies from culture to culture and are usually different. IMHO, the Romanian girls at the makeup and perfume counters were 7's, but you would find 9's and 10's working at the bookstore. They pride themselves on being descended from the Romans (genetically closer than Italians). They love the "Patrician Nose" which I refer to as the "Imperial Beak". Average Romanian girls look much better than the ones you find on google image searches.
Go when the weather is warm, and it was too cold most days even at the end of June when we were up in the mountains. Most Romanian girls have awesome legs and will do anything and everything to show them off. You can sit in an outdoor cafe in the city centers and watch what looks like the Playboy Mansion on parade. It is truly a site to behold.
Also...there may be some that want to leave Romania, but these girls are very family and friend oriented and they are proud of their country. They are not naive, they are well educated. You get cool points for being exotic, but you aren't going to wave cash around and have chicks flock to you. Some will come, but you don't want this type.
I'd love to settle down with a nice Romanian girl, but only in Romania or close by. I think they would be pretty miserable in the states. Part of their beauty is the attention they pay to their clothes and appearance. You'd lose that right away as the US women would retrain her, telling her she looked like a slut. I saw Romanian women in Germany and was totally unimpressed. Part of their beauty also is their vivaciousness...separate them from their friends and family and wonderful Romanian food and they would fade like an animal in a cage. Also, Romania is a full EU member. Any girl that wants out can go to any other EU country and still be close enough to go home to visit fairly cheaply.
Just to be clear though, I was traveling with a friend and I was not trying to meet women. We went to places tourists don't go to figure out the people. My notes here are from 10 days of travels. I think my observations are worth listening to, but I am by no means an authority. These are thoughtful observations, but from someone who watched and didn't participate. Conversely, even the 'recent' stuff on Romania that I read on the internet was from observations well in the past...almost everything I read was wrong.
So, in short:
1) Stay out of Bucharest
2) Dress nice (shoes!)
3) Meet girls online first, or get a friend there to introduce you to a girl
4) The girl 'out of your league' may spend her weekends alone, the girl with the huge nose may be completely unattainable
5) Don't expect a miracle
6) Don't take everything I've said as absolute truth, but don't discount it either...I was actually there a few weeks ago and it was nothing like what I had read.
