Here my experiences:
Agency 1
Got contacted by an interesting girl with a fantastic introduction and some interesting dialogue involved. It seemed genuine at the time.
It appeared that the letters were just coming through some time in the afternoon. All the communication went through the translator from their office premises as I later found out but when asking "her" directly the answers were very vague and I was led to belief that she was communicating with me directly.
The invitation to come over to Kharkov came pretty fast. The agencey charged a small fortune for their services ie. Hotel, translator and driver.
Last minute the lady declined and wasn't interested any more (flights were already booked - of course) - she was looking for a rich business man i.e. a gold digger. I am reasonably rich and run a business but I don't look like a businessman and she was weary and choose to decline. For me it was good riddance and for her may be a loss may be not. Anyway the agency told me this before I was due to fly and I could have bailed out. Since I had other things organised including a business meeting I went ahead and used their services i.e. driver, translator etc.
Looking at the prices the agency made about 200% profit - still it was an excellent service, everything was professional, I was looked after extremely well but it was just a bit on the expensive side.
Agency 2
This was an agency run by Stalin's daughter so it seemed. Just horrendous people and when I went to their office I thought I was facing serious trouble.
Against the odds I met the girl I thought I was communicating with and we hit it off and have been together for the best part of a year.
I had to pay them 80 dollars to get her contact details since I wasn't using any of their services i.e. translator, hotel, etc.
I paid up got the details met up with the girl I thought I had been communicating with and as said we hit it off.
Later I found out that she was single ok but just doing a favour to the horrible woman who was running the agency by being listed by her. All the communications went through a translator they used. It dawned on me as some of the details about her life she told me didn't tie up with the communication we had and as some of the details I told her through the site she didn't know either.
Later I think we only talked once via a camera session and all the letters turned out to be just the work of the translator to keep the interest going.
Horrendous when you think about it but again it worked against the odds.
Agency 3
This agency was in another FSU country and they were just perfect. They provided accomodation cheaper than the local hotels i.e. an apartment, looked after me from being picked up at the airport to being driven around and all at cheaper rates than getting the services directly.
I don't know how they do it but they were just honest, caring and good value for money.
It didn't work but it was a pleasant experience.
the purpose of the post was not to provide an advert for agencies but just to share some experiences. A lot of it on this forum sounds very negative and I am sure a lot of people get taken for a ride but there are some good, genuine people out there as well.
The two good agencies do have a website and I'll gladly share information with you.
Stalin's daughter I think has packed up since and is no longer doing it. She didn't have her own website and used a some generic webmail address.
Far too many times on this forum, people post about their experience with a particular agency yet they don't disclose the name of the agency.
So, while there was 'some' advice in Mick's posts, it really doesn't do any of us much good. (And I don't see the need to break them up into three separate posts either. They'll get split up and their value will be further diminished)
So Agency 3 was "just perfect"; why not name them? They should be thrilled by the recomendation.
Why not name a company where you had a bad experience? This forum hasn't shown any displeasure with the naming of either rival agencies (or even the names of prospective FSU brides.)
The value of this, or any other similar forum is the exchange of ideas, agencies, tips, techniques etc. Sorry Mick, you didn't go far enough in my opinion to really help anyone.
aside from the listing of a lady's name, number, etc. -- too many want to post who "scammed" them or thought to be "scammed"... here is a chance to divulge the agency one has praised or otherwise was not satisfied with...
no worries on posting the name of agency. please do so.
The really good one was in Chisinau, Moldova.
The website is: www.starsvet.com
Main Points:
- nice people
- transparent pricing of every service
- their own accomodation is cheaper than using an hotel
- they seem to be quite busy
- extremely helpful people
The other good agency but expensive:
www.atlantidaagency.com
I only met three people from the agency i.e. one translator, the driver and the proprietor. The proprietor seemed genuine to me and wasn't playing any games. It seemed she really wanted to help.
She is very business minded but fair and provides value for money.
I was looked after by them all the way through and didn't have any problems when I was in Kharkov.
If you are totally new to the FSU experience the little bit more you spent with them might actually be very helpful when you are there for the added service you will get.
Also you can barter with them and get the price somewhat down to a more sane level.
Anyway if you use them and you enter a steamy email relationship - brace yourself for the bill when you want to come and see her in person. It most likely won't kill you but it will hurt. So just bear this in the back of your mind - but also you will receive value for your hard earned cash.
Stalin's daughter - as I mentioned before is no longer in business - at least so I am told. If she is - I feel sorry to whoever gets entangled with her.
The stories I heard about her agency were bad indeed. In one instance she employed a bloke to write on behalf of her ladies.
Apparently the only interaction I had with my lady for real was when they invited her to check me out via a video session. All the email communication I had was fake.
Quite disturbing - anyway despite the odds we did hit it off and we have been together for almost a year now. So it did work in my case - even though the thoughts of how I was taken for ride to start off with bring about the odd shudder. It is certainly not a story to tell the grandkids one day.
Just in case she re-emerges her name is Elena and she is based in Kharkov - she didn't have her own website and used a generic webmail address.
Ok guys I have spilled the beans. Hope you can use the info and some of you relent with your harsh judgements on my post. Actually I do want to help!
