I sent a package as mail to Kiev. it weight about 0,8 kg. The mailoffice have a service that allow me to track the shipment( dont know what its called in english). No it says its in custom for import asessment. It arrived in Kiev yesterday.
I did not think about writing the content I just ticked the box that says gifts. Its only a chocolate, cd and a key ring I sent as gift. The value is about 60$
I did not insert a statement of content and its value.
I think that all international packages are supposed to have a customs declaration.
If it doesn't get through customs in after 2 or 3 days, possible the person you sent the package to, can go to the customs office and collect it. She might have to pay a little money.
It's gone. I sent a cheap DVD player I had laying around and some cartoons in English. Customs pricks stole them. But I sent it US Mail valued at $300 sorbet paid me for it.
The tracking system in the USPS is worthless. I looked online when I tracked a lost package, but could not track the package with the number provided. USPS told me all it tells you is if the package left the US. Online services did not even tell me that. I had to go back to the post office. They would not go further. I assume it is because I did not purchase insurance, and they were not required to replace or pay for the contents. Insurance was only a couple of dollars. When I bought insurance and replaced the package, the package reached the destination with no problem.
I am not sure what you meant by stupid in what you did, Dag. The form has a box to check gift. You can't get around that, I don't think.
I wouldn't worry about it. It will probably get there. I have sent things about a dozen times without trouble. I even sent 2 Ipods without a problem. Be careful about sending things to a woman you have not met. If you get a thank you, then at least the address is real. If you haven't met her yet , you should now expect to get her phone number and E-mail. You have made a small gesture to establish real communication and it is reasonable for her to raise your bet.
Its not the USPS I use since I live in Norway. The tracking system to our postal service is good. I checked the form as gift, but did not write down any of its content or value of it.
Dag, if you sent via Norway postal service, then it went to the Ukrainian post service. They have tracking, but countries not communicating well. So you will not know the details of the tracking. It can be in custom for 1 day or for 10 days. Depends on the custom. You can send upto 200 dollars to Ukraine. If custom have any problem with that package they will contact recipient and ask her to do custom clearance - come to the custom and explain what is in the package. So I think she will get the package ok. I think you should be able to open investigation- search case on your post service now. In this case your postal service will send request on the package info to Ukrain, it may speed the process up.
Those postal workers love chocolates. My first package of chocolates never made it. I sent 10 pieces of solid Easter bunny chocolates the second time, insured and only 9 were received. The first package was not insured.
You can send any packages to any city in Ukraine and for good price by this company http://www.meest-express.com.ua/index.php?lng=en. And don't send any gifts with DHL. DHL is good only if you need to send papers or documents. And simple US Post service is also reliable only if you send it by register mail.
it is ok to send to Ukraine from us mail, insurance is not expensive but prices have risen quite a bit. once the parcel gets to Ukraine you need to use Ukraine post to track it. If package goes to Odessa or Kiev that gives customs a chance to make a few dollars, not so much in other cities.
