hi!
Since today we got a couple of questions from our customers about some "women's day holiday" that ladies mentioned in their messages, I decided to post this topic and give some info for those who dont know what holiday those ladies are talking about.
This holiday, first called International Women's Day was supposed to symbolize the solidarity of all women of the world who are fighting for their rights.( I doubt that women of other countries were aware about it, but anyway, here in communist USSR it was considered to be International Women's Day ;-))) After perestroyka this holiday lost its political implication, but it still remained to be one of the main holidays here. Now its called just Women's Day. Traditionally on this day all women( age doesnt matter, girls are getting used to it from the very childhood) get gifts and flowers from men and members of their families. This is a first spring holiday. This is an official holiday ,always a day off and celebrated all over Russia and former CIS. Its much more popular then St.Valentines, because it has a far more long history in our country.
So, if you guys want to show your lady that you know the traditions-do not foget to congratulate her on this day. ;-)))
Get your wallet out and send the girl some flowers !!!
Trust me is is a very very very important day to all Russian women, and if you dont make a fuss of her this day you may as well consider yourself sunk !!!
TD, if she gets to an internet cafe/ agency, then its fairly certain that through Fiance.coms sister service (available on every page you write to a girl from there on !!) you can send her flowers mate !!!
After all, if she gets to them, then they can get to her :o)
What about posting something, its still a week away, and Im sure she would be just as happy if you send her greetings by email, and then she gets her pressie a little late ?
Better late than never :o)))
My problem is the opposite, my girls all received flowers for valentines day, and now I'm gonna do it again for the 8th. I sure hope they appreciate me... That sux though Thunder. Tim's idea sounds pretty good.
First the good news - I managed to find some sort of intermediate courier, and now lots of goodies are on it's way.
Now for the bad news.
www.russianservice.com (Flamingo) charges around 45% (FOURTY FIVE PERCENT!!!) more because of this special holiday.
Not for the flowers only, a thing I could understand with a big demand for perishable goods, but for anything, across the board! Who's seen chocolate's which are off? Or champagne?
But entirely their prerogative, somewhere in the site there's even a disclaimer pertaining to higher prices possible.
However, the way they do it really urinates on my battery.
One clicks items with prices next to them, i.e. as simple as 1+1=????
Sorry, basic school arithmatics do not apply.
That's 2.9 today dear Suckers, pay it or leave it!
I did the latter, I don't like this kind of nasty surprise at all, and they also will never see me again.
If they want to charge more by all means, but then adjust the site accordingly. It is exactly the same as walking into a shop with every item priced, and finding out only at the till that 'because it rains' the price has just gone up, by almost HALF!
Bugger you Flamingo, bad business practice in my opinion.
I bought from http://www.flowers-to-russia.com/ , their site a darn site more professional also. Clear, logical, open and professional, the way of payment super, on-line and confirmed in seconds.
The price you see is the one you pay, and the cherry is they seem to offer slightly more also, without any hidden extra's.
I am no cheapskate at all, I just don't like to turn purple when being presented a surprise-bill. Time to re-shuffle your feathers Flamingo!
The problem isnt the fact that the goods will go off mate, its that the couriers charge more for delivering them because they are litterally rushed off their feet for about 3 days before Womens day trying to get all their orders out. Its exactly the same here for Mothers day and valentines day, everything goes up in price, but in Russia the problem is amplified because Every woman benefits in some way from this holiday, so things are also in short supply !!!
Flamingo guarentee if you order it it will be delivered and delivered on time, thats what you are paying for dude :o))
Flamingo also states they will deliver ANYWHERE in Russia.
Ask them (I did), they don't - for which they are VERY sorry.
So much for their reliability.
But as I said, they may charge whatever they like. However just tell anyone by showing the real price straight away, not by displaying the wrong one's (substantially lower!) and only, on the pay-page, show you the inflated amount you're supposed to pay!
Near-new Jag for sale, at a ludicrously cheap 1000 quid, however conditions apply. You walk in there, ready to haggle even further ;-))
The condition appears to be that you would have to be blonde, with legs up to heaven, wearing a short miniskirt as wide as a narrow belt, perpetually in the shade because of a hangover, and if you're not the price is set at 15K.
Get me point?
Thunderdome....as long as they do state the price BEFORE you part with your cash whats wrong with that?......no-one is getting ripped off,or maybe you think they should work for nothing?
why don't you READ the above first? Understand I mean, like in comprehend.
Then see that nobody complained about being ripped off or lacking any sympathy for inflated prices or do not want them to make a profit, let alone work for free.
But I'll give you another example, similar like somewhere above, only this is NOT the way they do it. Mind you, I expect you to be VERY confused after this:
I'm a shopowner, and you buy something from me, priced 50. You pay with a hundred, and I give you 25 change.
One of those silly little signs near the till says 'prices charged may be different than on the items'.
Thunder:
first of all I did read and UNDERSTAND the above as you so sarcastically put it.And if YOU read what I have written you would also understand that I said that the price WAS stated BEFORE you paid.
I don't get confused,I can add up,subtract, hell, even those diplomas tell me the same thing!!!!!
THE POINT BEING..............READ THE SMALL PRINT BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN!!!!!!!!
if ever I'll have this shop I won't remind you of committing such crime, in fact I might remind you of some barrel pointed at you from under the till ;-)))
I suppose you shop at Woolworth's? Buy 2 get the 3rd one free? Clever system that one, works a charm for perishables.
By the looks of things some understand the point I tried to make. Some don't, but they are probably the kind Tim's T-shirt is referring to (nae offence mate ;-)
