i have met a 50 year old russian lady from a dating site,i'm 52 and have never travelled to russia before.we have chatted now for a month and get along very well, her english is very good and she has a very nice happy personality.she has a good job and must earn decent money.she visited cuba before xmas for three weeks, and has also recently visited london.she asked me if i would like to visit her in her city which is in siberia.i wasn't too sure how i would get there,so i suggested a meeting in moscow which she agreed to without question.she suggested 3 nights in moscow,4 nights in st petersburg.its amazing to me how attractive these ladies are even at 50,also she has a wonderful figure too.where i live in northen uk i wouldn't have a chance of meeting this type of lady.my question is what are the pros & cons of a meeting in moscow?any help much appreciated thank you.
I have done the same thing, though in that case I wanted to visit her town, but she preferred not to meet there.
As to pros & cons, its a bit of a mixed bag. The main thing is psychology: think how you would feel meeting a new person at your "home base," vs. on a trip to a different town.
Usually from the US it is cheaper to fly to Moscow than anyplace else in "all the Russias," though you can lose the savings in cab rides to and from the airport :) Moscow is (or at least recently was) rated as the most expensive city in the world, but for me Paris was much worse! When I made that meeting in Moscow about 2 years ago, I was able to book a pair of hotel rooms for us in a very nice modern hotel at a good location (quite near the center) for something like $80/night/room -- this was a big surprise to me, to find such a good rate.
Of course, there are more activities to do in the big cities than in her town. Petersburg is absolutely my favorite place in the world, no end of sights and activities, though I've been too cowardly to visit there in the teeth of winter. In my opinion, the two of you would do OK to skip Moscow and spend the whole week in Petersburg. But if you follow her suggestion -- which would be quite a nice introduction to Russia -- you can get between the cities by train (if my memory serves, there are both fast daytime trains, and slow trains you can take during the day or overnight), or your choice of five airlines. Flying is a bit faster than the fast trains, and the tickets are actually cheaper; on the other hand, the train stations are "in town," whereas the airports are some distance outside, so there is a question of convenience.
Remember you will need to get a visa, which is least expensive if you apply a month or more before your departure.
If you decide to go to her town, or you want to fly her to and from the cities of your meeting -- look at website s7.ru
S7 is a terrific airline, and has the best web ticketing I've seen. You can cancel any flight (or at least you could, last time I checked) with 24 hours notice and the cost to you is only something like $20. With any of the Russian airline sites, you can get an English version, but you have to pay good attention to find the control for changing language. When I made my Moscow meeting, I bought the lady's tickets using s7.
For flying between Moscow and Petersburg, you can check s7.ru, rossiya-airlines.com, or aeroflot.com (though I suggest you check first with a regular travel-search site like kayak, which may include these airlines).
I visit Russia often, as do some of the other guys here. If you have other questions, please post, or feel free to pm me.
To save yourself some money, and flying, you can go for what's called an 'open jaw return' whereas, and let's say you are near to Manchester, on the outward you can fly MAN to MOW (MOW is the 3 letter city code covering all Moscow airports) and on the return fly LED (St Petersburg) to MAN thus saving yourself a flight back to Moscow.
To check prices just select 'multi city' on such a site as www.fly.com , I just tried it for some dates in March and return fares start at around £187.00!!!
For flights within Russia I always found the Moscow DME airport website useful:
I always found eu.fares.com to be the cheapest, but they charge 400 to 500USD to change your flight.. and this year, I didn't get the seat I wanted on any of the flights!
