This seems to occur regardless of their occupation and employment status. I have noticed this with students, law enforcement, doctors, lawyers, etc. Can anyone provide insight on this? Thanks. It is Not likely that it is the truth mate, very few people in the FSU "own and run their own business" its not easy to even begin a business there because of the "bribes" which must be paid just to even open any business, and only a very very small proportion of those few, who have been able to overcome the odds and start a business at all, are women. Hell !! It isn't easy for a man to be his own boss there !!! Its more likely that the girls want to sound more successful than they really are when presenting themselves to us capitalist men from the west !!! Telling you she is a business woman might be her way of trying to impress you, and to tell you she is a successful woman without you, and isnt looking for a hand out, but for true love with you ? Is she saying she doesnt Need you or your money she has her own success, but she might just Want you for your heart not your wallet ? Can't blame a girl for not wanting to admit she works in a shop selling second hand furniture/clothes, files nails or cuts hair all day for a pittance of a wage, sticks labels on tins of food, is a waitress in 3 cafe`s over 7 days of the week because one wage isn't enough to live on or guts fish in a factory, can you ? Best way to find out what any girl really does is pay some interest in her first, then later ask her about her job, once they realize that you are not going to judge them as failures for being menial workers they wont mind telling you what they really do. Until that time, just ignore the subject unless she mentions it, and hey !! If you marry her and bring her home, what does it matter what she was doing for work when you met her ? One last point, do you honestly think a woman who has her own successful business is going to want to pack it in and move to the west ? So why would she be looking to do just that if she has success at home already ? It would be like me shutting my garage and moving to a mud hut in Bali to marry a local girl, I wouldn't do it, I would brin her here !!! No successful woman from any other country would do it either !! This was in early 90-s, not now. I can't say that since that time many women had started their business, but it's not the reason. Even a business woman can try to find a foreign husband here. The reason is: for Russians family is on the first place and the most important thing for a Russian woman is to create a family. By the way, we don't live that bad, as you, Western men, often consider us to be. Yes, there are women who get as less as 5-7$ a day, but it's the minority of them. In Russia you can always earn good money if you're not lazy. Unfortunately, lots of Russian women are lazy, and when they get married, their dream is never to work. It probably means something as independant or head of her own household, but indeed the term 'business owner' is highly confusing, as we interpret this as an economical status. Read her jobdescription also Vihiker, this will tell you what you want to know. And sorry Oleg, you're right in what it means, but it's wrong in this context. Some website has started with this, and now you see it everywhere. Marisima, I am glad you seem to do well. I know a doctor (a specialist) in SPB who earns $50 for this work, and this is equivalent to the rent she pays. Her second job pays for her living, and this is also more than what she earns with her daytime-job. But having next to zero free time I would hardly call "we don't live that bad", but maybe it depends on what one is used to. My dream is also not to work, I'd rather just spend, but unfortunately the world does not work quite like that. I think our system is screwing, there is no social status filed in the girls application form. and it is a default for this field in the profile on the site. so if she did not change it is BUSINESS OWNER:)... we will fix this problem and email ladies to change this filed accordingly. TimH Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 2/29/2004 5:30:04 PM   Marisima, Thank you for your post, my experience of Russia, where I haven't spent so much time getting among the locals as I have in my extensive experience of Ukraine and Uzbek and Kazak culture where things as you know are far far worse than in "mainland" (for want of a better phrase) Russia, is not so widespread, but I think you are taking your own circumstances as country wide, and I'm sorry to have to tell you that this is not the rule. As for "not living that bad" dear Marisima, I cannot argue with TD about this. There are many people in smaller cities that are living on very very poor wages and working very very hard for that small income. Moscow and St P Burg are not typical of Russian cities, as is Kiev not typical for Ukraine. Having seen many Ukraine towns and cities I can honestly say that life in Kiev is as different from outside Kiev life as chalk and cheese. Please do not forget that this site covers the whole of the FSU, and some have life very bad, like Uzbekistan and Ukraine for two, and on the other hand Kazakhstan has it not as good as say Moscow but much better than Uzbekistan or Ukraine, its all relative to location. Being an English man with family values, I can honestly say that when I find my perfect lady she will never have to work, other than helping me to raise our family, unless she chooses to do so. I do not believe a mother should go out to work as her children need her far more during their formative years. I believe in the way of the man supporting his family completely and in all ways. TD: We earn it we spend it, we go out and earn some more, thats the way of the world mate :o))) And never forget that shrouds don't have pockets !!
