Hello everyone, this is my first post.
I wanted to talk to people who have businesses in Ukraine.
What are the pros and cons of owning a company there?
Is your company related to the 'mail order bride' business?
I am a photographer who is debating about starting a studio in a FSR country.
Based on what i have seen on the VK website I think that the women of Ukraine are more "model type"
than other countries.
The goal of the company would be to photograph and then sell the images to UK lad mags, giving the models a % of the income or paying them to shoot.
This would be a good match to this forum for a couple of reasons:
I would be on the ground there and being a photographer the models tell me EVERYTHING so I would be able to find out if they are looking for husbands or if they are serial daters.
Secondly, i am not sure if you are aware but 100% of the photos on the dating websites that i have seen have been airbrushed (altered with photoshop) to make the girls seem to look like models. Doing this studio I will be able to also send prospective men the actual un airbrushed photos.
I am just spit balling ideas really so if anyone has any other suggestions, comments, ideas or would like to become partners in a business like this, please feel free to contact me or write below.
Currently i have a complete studio including equipment ready to move to Ukraine.
In October I will be going to the Caribbean for the winter and will be ready to start up the business in April/May next year when my commitments completed in the Caribbean.
I agree with ragingbull. Always best to partner with a Ukrainian you trust.
Setting up and registering a small business is pretty straightforward process from an administrative standpoint.
Taxes are quite reasonable compared to western nations @ 17%
I have had a couple businesses there and currently have a registered charity there and have also set up my girl with her own sales business with a truck which makes her
self sufficient, empowered and able to also take care of her mother as well.
Setting up a new Western branded fast food restaurant in Ukraine is a whole different beast altogether! Ive been working on that venture for 2 years now without success yet as everyone in the process wants a bribe or piece of the action without investing any cash.
I wouldnt expect you to have too much problem getting girls to model for you if you are willing to pay cash up front but dont expect any of them to wait for residuals!
As far as making money at it, thats going to come from the gents back home and not by Ukrainians.
Expect scrutiny by officials. My partners and I were raided in 2004 for modeling websites hosted in Ukraine
claiming we were doing horrible things(US making the claims) but after taking our stuff and money, they dropped the charges a few weeks later. So always make sure you have all your papers and records in order.
There are a lot of professional photo studios in Ukraine and the pay is very low. The cost to have a shoot is very inexpensive. It is quite normal for Ukrainians to get some photos done every so often. There are quite a few talented photographers in Ukraine but the pay is very low.
What kind of "business" or "front" in Ukraine attract the least attention from the powers-that-be? No expectations of revenue but not more than 12000 to set up or "lose" really?
You are getting boring, Danny. You have nothing else but what I do with my money. My money. In the mean time, you gave up your boat, your way of life. Pathetic.
Don't take any apparently abrasive or contentious remarks from an Aussie seriously....they always have their tongue firmly planted in their cheek...you will never be able to stop them making humour out of any situation, no matter how sacred you deem it to be. It's too hot there to give a give a fig about sensibilities and iron ores spewing out of the ground like oil so they all feel a bit like lords of the manor

Mr. Bowhunter, are you talking about Ukrainians paying to have their photos done? I can see how that can be cheap. Johnphoto wants to sell these photos to "UK lad mags". That's different.
It would be better if you had a shop, but I don't even think you need a camera or a shop in Ukraine. Why don't you just go to VK and ask permission to use the photos for a percentage of the proceeds? If you know where to sell the photos, the photos are already there.
Many photographers in Ukraine operate from their apartment but choose the many scenic areas available to actually shoot from. We shot video and photos in all kinds of places, even in abandoned buildings near exclusion zone, The coast and mountain areas as well as the apartments themselves. As long as you have your documents in order you are only limited by your own imagination and the willingness of the models themselves.
You will find it doesn't take much cash to get a gal to agree to photo and video sessions. Ive done it for as little as 20 bucks in the early 2000s but the average is from about 40-100 depending on what you want them to do. US100 pretty much guarantees you can get nudes from many;)
Johnphoto, it dose sound plausible, i am no photographer or interested in having business in the fsu.
your idea sounds a lot easier then what i'm suggesting i think.
photography course's or something along the same lines of photography tours that involves professional photographer taking people to shooting areas.
ukraine has some beautiful senary in Crimea, i could actually see this been possible down there, it been a holiday destination.
this russian girl of mine is mad on photography as her sister (they are not short of $ for this), i learnt of these types of tours around the world from them,, they check the net looking for somewhere interesting to travel to and part learn.
another one they look at is cooking tours??
but you are baby sitting people in all aspects with this.
again it would be better partnering up with a good tour guide..
the tour guide i used in crimea was awesome but not that cheap, but saying that he was compared to whats involved in $ with these tours.
food for thought
What Danny is doing is what works and everyone else is a failure or doing something that is a total waste of time, among other things. Does everyone see a pattern here?
I just cant help but wonder what Danny will do when he moves to Russia. Will you live in St Petersburg or here in Moscow?
Will your wife continue to support you or what? Do you know Russian? You could always drive a taxi for American tourists
and overcharge them,lol
20 bucks is hardly enough money to not have to work.
you would need to know how to renovate apartments and more than 20 bucks to do that.
There are at least 5000 American tourists in Moscow at this very moment, those I see look pretty well fed.
However, I dont see any dunts
So you will live in Kazakhstan, Dagestan or Chechnya? Will you be attending a terrorist training camp
or converting to Islam?
There are "americans are struggling to feed themself". There are also Australian, Russians, Ukrainians, ALL of the countries, and even Canadians. It is a weak man who points at a country he has never visited.
