Hello, Has anyone on this forum ever know of anyone who did not speak english or maybe only a little and used the Rosetta Stone to some or great success ? Any success stories from non english speaking Ukrainians or Russians. The advertisements claim it is better than classroom training. It is a little pricey but it could be a worth while investment . Please people enlighten me with what you know about this product. I really wish this forum could start the new year with more constructive and learned knowledge and put an end to the non constructive rants and raves i see so much of . Have a merry christmas people. Regards Sunvolt
I was told to learn 10 words or so in Russian before I went. That's easier said than done. Learning a word, then trying to remember that word minutes later, after you went through that other nine, is not easy. I then tried to learn at least 25 words. But, everyday that I tried it is almost like learning it the first time. I went to Ukraine and when I got there, I knew almost nothing. Needless to say, the trip was a disaster and one of the reasons was I knew almost nothing in Russian.
I planned a second trip, but I did not have time nor did I want to pay much for a program. I found the "Learn in Your Car" Russian and it was perfect. It costs me $50 then for a nine hour disk. It says the word or phrase in English, then in Russian and you repeat it while you are driving or doing something else. That way, it took no extra time to learn it.
I took a copy of the disks when I went to Ukraine and when I had the lady hear it, she wanted the disks for herself. I suppose it can work backwards. I found the program on Amazon. It only costs $8.99. I am not sure if it is the full program.
“My past experience with my former girl from Kyiv on my fourth and final visit “
Is that just your last visit to see that girl??
I don’t have any experience with ROSETTA STONE, but I’ve talked to people from Ukraine about learning English.
Some say English is easy,,, others say it will take years,,,, and even then, she will not have mastered the language??!! Who knows I guess! It really depends on the person.
thanks Bull, Ranger that was year 2004 in Kyiv and also the last time i was there. After 9 years of not much of anything romantically happening for me here in the states i have decided to try again fiance.com . The dating agencies did leave a somewhat bitter taste in my mouth.Fiance.com upon my formal complaint to them had an agency shut down(would impose legal action) in Kyiv because the owner`s ladies profiles were all stolen or borrowed photos and she had a letter writing sweatshop in motion. All of the three women i was writing to were impatiently waiting for me to visit they claimed with love and many kisses and when i announced my arrival date they all three replied they had met someone else and could not meet me (all replied together the same day when i announced my arrival date. The owner of that agency in Kyiv was at the time a Miss WOW on this site!No bullshit! What a story! So they closed shop thanks to fiance.com . But i did have a backup plan because everything from the start never smelled good. The same time i was there i knew a European Connections Tour Social was scheduled at the Rus Hotel Ballroom. I had the time of my life. There was 15 or twenty men and about 150 women. It was a very respectable event. Some champagne and interactive games, it was no way a nightclub scenario, it was all in the afternoon .Well lit room with chandiliers.I had many introductions face to face with an interpretor. No cut copy and paste letters from Agencys, none of my questions were avoided.I had several respectable lunch and dinner dates with three women, did not sleep with any . The whole time i had an interpretor holding my right arm and my date holding my left arm everywhere in Kyiv. I felt very smitten and protected and felt like a man. As Jetmba says ,it was the time of my life. Well me and the interpretor fell for eachother and it lasted four visits as i explained before. This was one of the most memorable times of my life to me and quite a FSU learning experience. It went from bad to good but i hope members on the forum understand my contempt towards agencys. This time is different going to Yalta. A women from an agency wrote to me with her Skype contact(unbeleivable). She already has an American visa, she is more wealthy than me,we talk almost everyday and i am staying with her and her family in her house. This is the way it should be to meet someone on this sight. Not all the hoops you have to jump through. I leave on the 10th of January. You live and learn and it never ends .Well men, that is my story.
Rosetta Stone is too dry and difficult....you reeeeealy have to be focused. It was much better in a classroon setting where teacher can help with sounds or words quickly.
Another guy mentioned in the past about the Pimsular series.
Sunvolt,,,, you wanted constructive input, and instead you are getting some destructive dribble,,, Sorry!!! Jet seems to be stalking me for reasons unknown!
Jet,, IF YOU could understand English,,, you would have realized that SV is trying to help a Russian speaking person with their English lessons!!!!
Beemer,,, I have a Pimsular set of cassette tapes for learning Russian. Eight 30 minute lessons, no book required! I used to play one at night when I went to bed,,,,, but I must admit,,, I don’t think I ever got to the end of any,,,,, Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Its like anything, you have to dedicate 1-2 hours everyday to learn it, if you only do it every now and then you don't learn much and wont retain as much, thats really the hardest part about Rosetta Stone is keeping with it on a daily basis and not giving up when you get past the basics and it starts getting hard. I am using it to learn Spanish and I am not very good at keeping up with it but even with the little time I do spend I can listen to Spanish being spoken and pick out words I understand though not the conversation. I just think how useful it is that so many people in America speak it now adays to learn it, but if I ever decide to meet a girl from yonder in FSU country I'll start learning Russian.
Ive heard for those who dedicate 3 solid months with both Rosetta stone AND Pimseular can do really well.
a guy at my church used both to learn spanish, french and now is working on russian. he is actually progressing quite
well. in 2 months he would be just fine in russia or ukraine knowing enough to get along.
any class will only take you so far. just move over and spend a year;)
Ranger ,
That woman in Kyiv was 2004. I am going back to Yalta January 10 and give it another try with a woman i have written about earlier. I had a detailed explanation of matters but i find out the forum moderator won`t relaease my opinion my real experiences i have encountered . My story was blocked .No vulgarity just the raw truth about agencies So there is no freedom of speech here.
The posts have been showing up very erratically,,, I think your short post arrived before your long one.
About that rogue agency,,, I really doubt whether they closed up shop. Perhaps Fiance.com stopped working with them, but I’m sure they were still in business with other websites,,, or moved to another location a few days later.
I can’t say that I ever had any “phantom” letters,,,,, but I’ve had everything else. I filter out the BS’ers or Pros rather quickly,, but the translators can be very good at their job, and I’ve visited women with whom I had wrote to for a long time,,,, they didn’t know anything about me,,, or had boyfriends for years.
I never reported anyone to the website or to a scammer list,,, but I’m in the process of reporting several girls, interpreters and an agency!
“The owner of that agency in Kyiv was at the time a Miss WOW on this site!No bullshit!”
I believe that!! On my first trip, I had broke a tooth and was stuck in Odessa for 8 days (bad abscess) . My girl there was also sick, so I spent the time alone. The agency owner was calling me 5 to 10 times a day, trying to get me to meet a girl named Irina,,, or any girl I choose. I said no to any new people,,,, but I’d see the girl who I made the trip for,,, still sick! I went from Odessa to Nikolaev for a day, then I got a call that my girl in Odessa was ready to see me? We met and the agency woman took our picture, and sent me a copy a few months later!
As it turned out,, the girl wasn’t sick, but with her lover in the Carpathian mountains.
Years later,,, when I joined fb,,, I let fb send out invites to every email address I had in my contacts! (bad idea) Guess who’s profile I found with that,,, the agency woman Irina,,,, the same Irina who I was to meet! I was hounded constantly during my stay in Odessa,,, she even offered to let that girl,,,, “herself“,,, to take me to the dentist! Making a date out of having a tooth pulled???
With this woman wanting to meet me so bad,,, you would think she would have jumped at the opportunity to be friends on FB,,,, nope,,, never heard one word from her!!! Lol
“I had a detailed explanation of matters but i find out the forum moderator won`t relaease my opinion my real experiences i have encountered . My story was blocked .No vulgarity just the raw truth about agencies So there is no freedom of speech here.”
Yeah,,, nothing new! I’ve had that happen many times,,, sometimes there was nothing at all wrong,,, it was just blocked for no reason. Then,,, others get to post pure filth, over and over again! It’s the reason why I won’t ever use this website for dating ever again.
You can’t get even with the system,,, but you can refuse to give them any more money. I haven’t spent a penny on a website for nearly a year now. From time to time,,, I’ll see a profile on AOB that I like,,, but I would need to buy at least 10 credits to get her personal info,,,, that about 85USD. I’ve gone to buy credits several times,,,, and each time I changed my mind!!! I’m just not going to do it!
If you saved a copy of that story, send it to me in a PM?!
Marina,,, during which grades did you take English in school and for how many years??
How do you rank your English on a scale from 1 to 10??
the ESL class my wife attends uses Rosetta stone online. They can teach English to almost anyone. Most of the students are Spanish speaking but there is 3 Russian speaking students. To learn English in Ukraine is much cheaper.
My apologies to the moderator. It takes longer for the posts to be approved than i thought. It`s strange though, people who post after me get posted first so replies are out of syn. Agin my apolgies. Thanks Bowhunter, Ranger i hear you, but fiance.com administration was very helpful and they followed up on matters concerned. The agency did close up and i was notified the owner moved and married a german.
moyarishka is about level 7 in case anyone is curious. she knows alot of American slang a has a large vocabulary.
A person can have a normal conversation and only need to help her in explaining technical terms relating to specific situations.

I have learned that while FSU girls have a Facebook page, they often spend very little time using it unless they are already actively seeking western ideas
ans social integration. VK is still the preferred site for most. Many of us search out girls on VK and FB to verify if they are real and thier social/relationship status. Regarding VK, a search for a girl in English may yield no results although she may indeed have a profile. City searches with a
birthdate can often help search results.
SV,,, thru the years I’ve tried to find a pattern in the approval process,,, no luck!!
I’m glad to hear that real action was taken with that rogue agency! Perhaps it will keep other agencies from being so bold?!
Marina,, thanks! At my school, we had our foreign language classes in high school. One or two years of it. A foreign language was considered part of the Humanities credit, art classes could also be used. We only had French when I went to school,,, and I didn’t care to learn it. I really hated the art teacher and got myself kicked out the first week,,, on purpose. Giving him the finger and telling him to fxxk off will do that!! Lol
So,,, how did I get my H credit,,,,, reading and literature classes! I had to take all of them.
If you read the first and last chapter,,, and the first and last page of each chapter, you can give a pretty good book report.
I remember the teacher asking me one time, if I enjoyed the book? I shrugged my shoulders and said: I don’t know,,,, I barely read it!! We both laughed! I did receive an A or B on it.
From what I am starting to understand that is the longer you been on the forum the sooner your posts are accepted and approved. I may be wrong but it seems like my posts, Beemers, Nasfan, Jetmba, and a few others are posted almost immediately while some others take awhile.
