I once called Boryspil Hotel for a reservation. The stay for a two bed room was around $85, about the same as they charged me a few months before. Then, they added a reservation fee of about $40.
I took the reservation, but there was no way I was going to pay it. I called to cancel, hoping they would keep the reservation and waive the fee. The reservation gal had no comments. She just canceled it. I called other hotels and they all had this fee. I don't understand this fee. It is far too high, and it deters customers, in my opinion.
But I can tell you that Boryspil Airport Hotel was one of the few where it ALWAYS cost more to book online, than it did just for showing up.
Typically if you booked online a basic room was $90 - but even if you used the phone near the information both (before the airport was greatly expanded) it was $60.
Rb,, I’ve never been charged a reservation fee. Stay at a place big enough to never be full!! (or almost never)
I tried going through a travel agency once,,, they wanted 15 to 20usd more than the hotel advertised.
I remember the last words of the agency guy on the phone:,,, Well,,, if you don’t want to save money??!!!
Stayed on night in hotel there in about 2.5 yrs of total time there. Cost was 600 euros, dont know if that included a booking fee! Why would you stay in hotels when you can get good apartments conveniently located for less with 3 day servicing instead of daily.
I always love staying at hostels, you get to meet a bunch of cool people usually and its cheap as hell. That's they way I used to travel before I started making good money and I actually miss those days!!! Staying in a bunk bed with a bunch of strangers and meeting friends from around the globe.
Hostels. I have read about those. Hostels and apartments are harder to find than a hotel. Someone new will not know apartments are available as you will have to dig deep into the internet.
A hotel will have food, a 24 hour desk, taxis outside, hot water, a working telephone and other travelers to talk to. I once stayed at an apartment in Kiev overnight and none of those things were available. I even wondered if the taxi was picking me up.
I purchased a package deal of the apartment, taxi and train. I wanted to stay overnight at Boryspil Hotel instead of the apartment, but the travel agent said the place was in the heart of Kiev. It was probably in the back side of Kiev. I walked one mile one way and another mile the other way. I managed to find an ATM. The only food I found was a pastry at a small train stop.
