Ok here is what I dug up today about data for smart phones. MTC pronounced MTS LIFE and UMC all have unlimited internet with a sim card. should have the cost tomorrow. I will post it on my web site when I get all the information.
I was told UMC was in Sumy but I use MTC and when I buy 35 UAH there is no fee for internet. with LIFE you can get unlimited if you buy 10 UAH every 25 days you should have unlimited internet.
Life:) is the best deal in ukraine. if you have a computer, you can have the website send setting to your particular phone.
A word of warning. some US companies such as Sprint claim to offer "unlocked" phones for global use but in reality only voice and
sms are actually available with another company's SIM card with data still being blocked to ecourage the use of their global partners
for data at exorbitant prices. Amazon offers many global capable smart phones that are truly unlocked phones in the 80-150 price range.
Chinese off-brand Apple and android clones offer dual SIM smartphones from 80 bucks. If you take an AT&T phone to Ukraine be sure to disable
data until you change the SIM card as the phones automatically roam and use data and you can suddenly find yourself facing a 900 bill upon returm
although you never actually knowingly used any data services.
Verizon and sprint both use the same technology. they may not even work correctly. at&t and t-mobile will unlock your phone for free if you meet there criteria. ebay is probably the best place to find a quad band unlocked phone. LIFE has a great deal on unlimited internet. umc was bought by mtc so its no longer available. my son sells a few phones I take him , he gets 500 for an Iphone4 and not sure what he charges for the samsung.
