Holyman,
Almost all people on this forum are going to bust your balls for sending money to a person you never met but i am not.Like all of us ,you are paying fir what you hope is an honest service rendered and it is not. She went about ripping you off after she won your trust in a very slow cunning way. It happens and you hopefully have learned somewhat. Its only money but it hurts more when your heart is involved. I feel your pain though.Ukrainian women thru agency or private e-mail are a very cunning and black hearted people tainted by communism which we seem to forget. All we see is their beauty and are blind to their theiving ways .Not you Moya .These women have nothing but their good looks ,beautiful shoes ,the newest cellphone and that is it. They go to the internet to make extra money and trinkets because they are told that this can be done to lonely men from other countries who are believers bought on this propoganda that beautiful eastern european women are lonely and make good wives and the men in their countries treat then like shit. The people who conjured up this concept of agencys for marriage are corrupt geniuses who constantly are thinking of ways to make money. All Russians do and think like this. They are heartless cold blooded vultures who smell blood money because their government kept them away from it for so long a time.Private e-mailer on this sight Evgeniya Malyshkina i.d.135275 i met in Kyiv is still trying to get money from me to this very day, i cant beleive she is not removed even though i never reported her.Very few men have positive results on fiance.com but we keep trying. Oh well. Holyman, I would fly over there sinc you have a ticket show up not announced and give that low life bottom feeder a sicilian necktie
If you had met with this woman in person before you invested in material goods, you likely would have learned more about her sincerity. Nothing you did to advance your relations were unfounded except that you placed the cart ahead of the horse. You probably would have more material loss courting a woman in your own city with the same amount of contact. As a man, you have absolutely no obligation to a woman before you become intimate. After that, you are on your own.
Your girl is most likely a scammer,,, did you do a search for her on scammer watch sites or on google??
Did you report her to the website??
A couple of things that I spotted in your story,,,,,, isn’t a modem only for dial-up internet?? I know they have USB modem adaptors for computers that didn’t come with one,,, but aren’t all other modems internal??
And,,, some apartment buildings over there are still “hostel” style,, with the bathroom at the end of the hall. I remember several girls telling me about them,,,, one bathroom for everyone on that floor,,, co-ed?!! It could explain all of the doorways,,,, but they would be locked,,, wouldn’t they?!
@lonely: The adapters for DSL and cable internet are also called modems, so even a broadband service usually has a modem. And I have learned the hard way that DSL modems tend to fail, apparently they run at high internal temperatures. And I agree, if she were in a communal apartment, it would surely have looked very different from what Holyk saw, with practically all of the doors closed.
@Holykimura: I see from the bottom of your post that you've decided to give up on this crazy venture. It takes guts to tell the story of something that is so painful, and the same time embarrassing. I'm glad you did it, because your experience may be useful to other men. I know what it's like to have high hopes, only to discover that I was a target of a cynical operator ... and there are certainly other men here who have experienced this one way or another. It rubs salt in the wound, to think of the good money that is gone. But I know stories of guys who lost a whole lot more money, it could have been worse. I gather that it's too late now, but I would have seriously considered using the reservations anyway, and at least getting a trip and a chance to explore a new part of the world! Anyway, good luck moving forward.
@everybody: Most of the time, our most dangerous enemy is our own self. It is a weakness inherent in human nature, that what we see comes more from our wishes, than from our eyes.
I think the biggest problem we men have,,, is that we can’t believe the women can be so cold. They look so pretty and sweet,,, no way can they be so cold hearted……. Wrong!
They write nice letters, say all of the right things,,, bedazzle us with their charm,,,,, then turn it off with the flip of a switch!!
Really? 2k quid. Sorry to tell you that most people would spend $100k to find a real partner, one that doesnt file fore divorce the moment she gets permanent residency. If 2k is a big deal to you then you were never in the hunt.
There is a learning curve. you found out what scamming is quite cheaply. Its expensive to take holidays, go visit and then get the cold shoulder. All this emailing, letter writing and skyping is pretty useless against a real trip and real trips cost serious money, time and effort even after working out how to save on apartment rents, taxis etc.
I was very lucky to meet my wife on my second trip. We got married on about my 19th trip. We are shortly coming up to our 5th wedding anniversary. She is the one who breaks all the rules that the failures here set. Young, pretty, smart whereas Im old and fat!
I made 10 trips over 4 years. normally late spring or early fall when flights are cheaper. There really isn't much cost after the flight if you have a few contacts.I go for a week or two and normally only spend around 1000 dollars after I arrive. We normally shop at the local bazaar for gifts and use local transportation unless its raining. We only spend a day or two in Kyiv.
Gemini,
Out of east coast to Kyiv the best flights you can get are 16 to 19 hours with 2 connections .Anything after that can be 20 to 34 hours with longer connection times. Then you got the jet lag of a 7 hour difference which takes me a couple of days to get my bearings straight for rest and operation. I`ve said before it is a lot easier for people flying out of Europe to date being the trips are a small fraction compared to what others must endure.
sunvolt.....don't be a weinnie...I normally find fair's less than a grand and usually only one stop(just like this time), sure it is a battle first couple days with the time change...but the eyes wake up quickly to see what walks by.....
What region is your home base? I'm lucky to live within a couple of hours driving time to the New York airports -- otherwise, I surely wouldn't have visited so many times. For me, Kyiv is relatively convenient. Occasionally I go non-stop by Aerosvit -- nice and quick. Other times, I have a 1- to 3-hour layover somewhere in western Europe, so usually not more than 13 hours or so from JFK to KBP.
The Russia flights are longer, and can get to be a drag.
Most of my flights go from Green Bay to Chicago,, and if not,,, then Detroit or Minneapolis to the various western European countries and on to KBP. The shortest flights I’ve seen are 15.5 hours,, but they have dangerously short layovers,,, 30 to 45 mins. The shortest flight I have taken is 17 hours on my way over,,,, and 24 plus for the return flight. For some reason, the return flights have much longer layovers,, not the right combination of flights I guess?
I’ve paid from 975 up to 1,200usd.
Years ago,, (1999) Aeroplot had the Chicago to Moscow flight 2 or 3 times a week, for only 670usd. One of the American carriers now operates that flight.
Durak,, I priced the JFK to KBP once,,, thru Aerosvit or Ukraine Air, the cost was 2,500usd.
Danny,,, what was the cost of that train from Australia to Moscow??? Did you take any pictures??? Did you remember to keep your hands inside the train at all times???
Durak,I have no choice but to fly from Pittsburgh which is a dead region for commerce. So any flight to kyiv starts there. They all go from there to newwark or jfk or chicago then to frankfurt then to KBP. I have never seen a flight while searching that is direct to KBP from new york or from anywhere from the states lately .A few years ago i saw Ukrainian International Airlines or Aerosvit had a dedicated flight from new York to KBP and that is the last time i ever saw it.I can get there in 16 to 18 hours the least. You consistently only get 1 hour 15 minutes to change gates by foot at Franffurt with 2 security checks plus walk to 2 miles to do it.That airport is huge to walk with very long lines. I always make it by the skin of my teeth.Coming back the connection at frankfurt time is even less consistently by 20 minutes, the Lufthansa plane was late and had to spend the night there. My whole point of my original thread was it must be nice and very convenient to fly 3 hours from Europe or less to find the right lady.Less time and better rest and more times a year, 3 day weekends going there for peanuts.
Well, I didn't realize until today that Aerosvit is dead ... it's more than a year since I planned a trip to Ukraine, I've been spending my time in Russia. Aerosvit was fine for me, but actually had a poor reputation with Ukrainians. Sic transit!
Durak,You ain`t shittin Aerosvit is dead .Remember when i wrote they kept cancelling my connecting flight from Kyiv to Simferopol two times after i arrived? Yes very poor reputation for internal flights in Ukraine from what the locals there told me and on the news there?
sorry sunvolt for mentioning money...but my post had more to do with time involved with your flights to Ukraine.....I see now you come from smaller region. Isn't here anything out of Philly or DC? I know US Airlines and Austrian fly out of those to Vienna.
@ Durak.....pity about Aerosvit, now there is no competition domestically. I did see recently flights from KBP-Ods for $85 but now well over $100, even some days closer to $200. If I knew my flying days, I could have got a rt for $141, now well gone. Need to book closer to 1 month ahead for better deals. I even lost my KBP-KIV flights and have to use AirMoldova.
