I was thinking that people in the FSU, who do not have much money, all have problems and sad stories to tell and these stories have got nothing to do with scammer schemes. Every time I read a list of clear scammer activity, sad stories like a relative (or the girl) being in urgent need are at the top of the list.
I have several Ukrianian and Russian friends in Facebook. I made 2 new friends (young girls) recently. We all know that there is no romance involved. I tell them I have a girlfriend in the Ukraine already. All our talk is about music, funny pictures, what is going on in Kiev, etc. More recently both of them told me sad stories, looking for moral support (needless to say there is no mention of money):
Friend 1: Her father has just died in a car crash. She is devastated, her mother has been left alone, etc.
Friend 2: She is living with an abusive boyfriend, he is extremely jealous ands beats her up.
Now, if a girls in dating sites told you these stories, after you met them only a few weeks before, the scammer police would immediately raise their red flags.
Just minutes ago,,, I had been sent a friend invite on Vk,,, and I checked out her profile to see if she would be someone I might be interested in. There wasn’t an age or even a city mentioned in her profile,,, but she looked nice, so I accepted her and thanked her for the friend invite.
Only seconds later,,, I get a reply stating that she needed money fast for her sister. She was in a car accident and needed surgery! Both of her parents died two years ago,,, in something that didn’t translate,,,, probably catastrophe? I remembered a photo in her profile, of her and someone that looked like her mother,,,,, added in May 2013?? I sent that photo back to her with May 2013. Oh,,, that photo was taken just days before my parents were killed!
It could be true,,,,,, but,,, she is the second one this month to ask for money. The majority of women only know a guy when they need money. I feel sorry for her,,,, but I don’t like having (ATM) printed on my forehead.
Durak,,, that link pertains to the death of parents from natural causes,, and probably not what ever “avtokotostrofe” might be.
I included the part of the conversation where she talks about her sister and parents,,, maybe you might have a better idea of what the two misspelled words might be?
“From Novosibirsk I'm 20 years old my sister 17 our parents died in avtokotostrofe 2 years ago, my sister hit by a car it requires surgery Lekgie”
What is the normal procedure after becoming sick or injured in Russia? Here in the US,, they would go to the emergency room and be treated whether they had money or insurance or not?
I’ve been looking at this girl’s profile each day,,, checking to see if she made a lot of “western” friends??? I seem to be the only one? If she was a scammer, she would be making as many friends as possible.
Also,, she never mentioned an amount? I’m starting to wonder if I was wrong about her??
The other word, looks like a letter transposition of "legkie", which would be the plural of easy or light (as in lightweight) -- it seems a surprising word in this context, but I suppose it could mean "minor surgery".
My knowledge of medical treatment is minimal, and more based on people I know in Ukraine, than in Russia. My impression is that medical treatment is (at least usually) accessible for very little money, usually with facilities and standards of treatment that most of us would find somewhere between disappointing and appalling.
Of course, those who can afford it will go for more deluxe medical treatment.
Given that "she" (if it really is a woman) initiated contact, and them immediately solicited money with a double sob story, I wouldn't worry that you got it wrong. But I am a bit disappointed that her pet dog wasn't also crushed by a tram.
PS Now that I think of it, the wording is somewhat ambiguous. Is required surgery for her sister, or the car that whacked her?
Durak,,, thanks! It was as if, this could have been an early attempt to get easy money. I’m split between feeling offended that she thought I would have been an easy mark,,,, and flattered that she thought I was a nice guy!
Her profile appears to be that of a young girl,,, with many photos of friends dating back several years. No nude or risqué photos of herself trying to be an online model. Just a sweet girl that a guy would want to help. Perhaps the perfect profile for a con man to use?
Here are our very first words:
Hello Yulia! Thank you for the invite! Where do you live,, I couldn't find it in your profile?

“Yulia
I live in Russia, I'm looking for help, I do not have a simple life .. suatsiya my sister needs an operation which costs money we live without parents and it's just me, could you help some sort of sum? 15.12.13 “
Wow, that chick is all business! No time wasted on pleasantries.
Maybe you were identified as an easy mark ... but the business model of spamming (a related concept) is based on the cost of attacking, which is very very small. If one spam email in 100,000 makes some money, you can run at a good profit margin. So it's not necessary to discriminate, but rather to attack as many targets as possible, without worrying about which are "good" targets.
I'm guessing "suatsiya" was meant to be "situatsiya" (easy to translate, being a borrowed word).
PS I live in USA, I'm looking for help, I did not save for retirement ... situation need many funds quick, could any kind reader of forum help some sort of sum? TIA :)
(A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is when blood flow to a part of the brain stops for a brief period of time. A person will have stroke-like symptoms for up to 24 hours, but in most cases for 1 - 2 hours.)
