I respectfully ask, that forum participants not fill up the threads about the developing crisis in Ukraine with posts about politics (and especially politicians) in western countries. First, our opinions on that subject are of very little practical value to anybody (because we won't be making the decisions), and second, they are probably even less interesting to those readers who are from other countries.
So if you know the Right Answer, concerning What the West Should Do, and want to dissect the many shortcomings of the Fools In Power, won't you please post them here?
This can be an interesting discussion in its own right, but I don't think it belongs with news about what is actually happening in the former Soviet Union.
Is very innocent to believe that west countries are just looking... why Venezuela and Ukraine are under protests? Because their government are not doing what western governments expect to do. We are talking about democratic countries, probably their democracy is not perfect, such as is not perfect in France, Italy, Spain or any other country. But Venezuela it has petroleum and Ukraine is an strategic place against Russia.
First,,, recall all US citizens from Russia and Ukraine.
Stop any and all trade between US and Russia.
If we are giving any financial aid to Russia,,, end it.
Change the DEFCON alert status from 5 to 4.
Try to mobilize NATO troops.
Kick Russia out of the UN.
Remove Obama from power, one way or another.
Fire Kerry and replace him with someone that has a pair.
Return some of the high ranking military officers back to their posts.
Continue some of the military contracts that Obama stopped.
""Does the 1994 'Budapest Memorandum' obligate the US to intervene in Ukraine?
The Budapest Memorandum was signed in 1994 by Bill Clinton, John Major, Boris Yeltsin and Leonid Kuchma – the then-rulers of the USA, UK, Russia and Ukraine. It promises to protect Ukraine’s borders, in return for Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons. Both sides have apparently violated the agreement already, which in diplomacy usually means that the agreement would no longer be in effect.

Does the 1994 'Budapest Memorandum' obligate the US to intervene in Ukraine?
"There's been a lot of loose talk about a 1994 "treaty" that obligates the US to guarantee the territorial integrity of Ukraine. As Financial Times reports, this is vastly overstating the reality of our agreement with Ukraine, which in no way says the US must come to Ukraine's defense militarily."

Interesting discussion about the Budapest Memorandum, thanks for the links!
If I were addressing the Russian government, I would love to say:
"The Russian Federation, by signing the 1994 Budapest Memorandum committed that in exchange for the removal of all nuclear weapons from the territory of Ukraine, Russia shall not make 'threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine' and that 'none of [Russia's] weapons will ever be used against Ukraine except in self-defense or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.' If The Russian Federation threatens or uses force against Ukraine's territorial integrity, or uses any of its weapons against Ukraine except in self-defense or in accordance with the UN Charter, then accordingly Russia can have NO OBJECTION WHATSOVER to the restoration of nuclear weapons to Ukrainian territory, or the stationing of nuclear missiles there by other states."
I would order that all marriage agencies be laid under seige and overun with owners and conspirators to be lined up and shot. Then to be occupied and maintained by only honest men of a western culture.
“Moments ago Interfax reported that two Russian anti-submarine warships have appeared off the coast of Ukraine's Crimea region, violating an agreement on Moscow's lease of a naval base, according to a Ukrainian military source as saying. Then again what else would a Ukrainian military source say. The source added that the two vessels, part of Russia's Baltic Fleet, had been sighted in a bay at Sevastopol, where Moscow's Black Sea Fleet has a base.
So imagine two extra anti-sub ships off Sevastopol in the """map below"" which until this latest update from Contemporary Issues and Geography, was keeping an accurate running update of all the most recent developments in the staggered Russian invasion of the Ukraine.”
Subject: A Confederacy of Fools. Vaclav Klaus
"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."
As I have written before in the past years, the failure to have a "comprehensive" (the favorite term of the present administration in America) policy to assist in nation building in the FSU, failure was a definite possibility. The proletariat is looking to the past for relief. It is a big step back for not only Ukraine, Crimea, but Russia, the southern regions and the world. This administration has such a record of revising the truth and putting out untruths, they have accepted the premise that the invasion is about protecting ethnic and Russian speaking civilians of Ukraine and I make no distinction to Crimea. NO THREAT or action has been taken against what Putin has described as a class of persons. It is in fact that ALL persons in Ukraine speak Russian and also the converse, not all speak Ukrainian. The fact that snipers were executing persons without due process is why Parliament removed Yanukovich. He ran because he knew it was a severe mistake and his position was untenable. There was never a threat to the shipyards in Sevastopal, nor would Ukraine's government or any world power condone it. Putin should withdraw his troops and focus only on the naval bases. Russia's presence is not stabilizing , but provocative. It is pitting the inhabitants of Ukraine against each other, many believing it is an either or condition. When the shooting starts and it surely will when troops in masks and without signifying under international law and the rules of engagement soon to be opposing each other, an insurgency, not only in Ukraine, but also in the southern regions of Russia is inevitable. I believe that Islamic radicals will use these events just as Putin has done himself in the belief that the ends justify the means to destabilize all of the FSU.
Is there any doubt that East Germany has thrived under the fall of the FSU and also that the ability of West Germany to lead in the reunification of Germany. It was a direct result of U.S. nation building after WWI. I. Further it is Germany that is the leader in the enterprise of the European Union. Certainly there is no one in the former East Germany that wants to step backward in history. That is the failure of the west. It will be a had thing for all that believe a step back is a good thing, but they only know what they see. People in North Korea believe that rest of the world is starving. Anyone want a game of hoops or go golfing? Let's go to a Ranger's game and kill a bottle of Jack . Send me dollar and negate your carbon footprint. Mexican troops have just crossed into the U.S. at the San Diego Port of entry to protect Spanish speaking and ethnic Mexicans..... Just in Spain has invaded Mexico with almost identical statements.... The Red Coats are coming the Red Coats are coming!!!!!
