I am now seriously worried about my girl in Simferopol. Even my daughterm who is normally jealous of me looking for a girl over there has asked me to tell my girl to leave Crimea immediately.
My girl does not speak much English and we have had little communicaton about the problems.
Does anybody know of a service or person who will act as an interpreter in a 3 way spoken conversation in Skype?
I don't have an interpreter for you at the moment, but two points:
(1) Probably you already know this -- to make a Skype conference call, at least one participant must have a Skype Premium (paid) account.
(2) Though the situation is crazy and stressful, and of course everyone is anxious to discover how things will play out ... I've no reason to believe that ordinary citizens in Crimea are in any danger at all. Just last night, I bumped into an acquaintance from Zaporozhye, and asked her if her family is worried about the goings-on. I was surprised to learn that some of her relations live in Crimea; everyone is concerned, but no actual problems.
If there is war in Ukraine (I certainly hope there won't be, and don't think it likely), it won't take place in Crimea, because Ukraine's military has so little presence there.
So in my opinion, at the moment the safest thing for legal residents of Crimea to do is to stay calm, and stay put. There will surely be some problems with shortages in the shops, but nothing dangerous, I think.
Trying to leave Crimea at this time might actually be a bit dangerous -- safer to stay home.
The women I know there in the Crimea in Evpatoria is just saving up for a one way ticket out of there now to Australia. the future there is now set back for years to come now in economy and jobs.
The Associated Press report, dated today, says simply "A narrow strip of land linking the peninsula with mainland Ukraine also has been sealed by armed people."
If I were a gambling man, I'd bet they are soldiers of the Russian army -- but that is pure surmise.
Durak, please calm down. There is not problems getting around in Crimea, yes there are men in fatigues with weapons but are at check points to see who is leaving and coming, that is only difference. A friend just left Simferopol airport yesterday....with no problems. I do agree with you that the people in Crimea are in no danger.
Good to hear from you beem -- it's been a while. Actually, I was suggesting that wifeseeker calm down about evacuation :)
Thanks for your news! I read one account during the weekend that the only flights to or from Crimean airports were to Moscow. Since then, I haven't been able to find any information at all about airline operations in Crimea. Do you know which airport your friend flew to? Or which airline?
Interestingly, I just read that people started leaving Crimea a week or two before the occupation ... perhaps some folks must have had some inkling what was coming.
Does anyone have news about conditions for ordinary folks there? How are the stocks in groceries?
The airports were closed down last Saturday. My flew to GB, I sure from Simferopol to another European city outside of Ukraine.
My friend in Sevastopol has told me everything seems normal.... only you see troops every now and then.
If anyone left as you say, it was not ethnic Russians. I did read a story about a couple with a young child left to another city because they were close to a military base, they were afraid they would get caught in middle if something started.
it hard on the women there now in the Crimea. my women is finding it very hard to deal with this situation. it does not worry me if she is Russian or Ukraine as it does not change the women. it good that you are staying loyal to her.
for travel there well who knows. I'm stuff either way as an Australian we have to get a visa entry there in both counties.
ozjohn,
Well good luck, we can exchange information that will help each other with our girls in Crimea, like on travelling and how to help them.
Mine is so honest, she has never hinted anything relating to money. Now that she is at risk of losing her job, still no messages telling me she needs help. I have even thought of volunteering to help her but my rule is: send no money until she is is engaged or married to me.
same good luck, the only thing she has told me now is the price of things going up everyday there. she never ask me for money in all the time I know her now. she is working part time now and modeling. she does want to relocate out of crimea to Australia on her own money she saving to come here.
the women I know is young so I guess they are more motivated to leave there then an older women. been only 23 year old can speak English and write pretty good without me having to pay for translator. plus she has her own computer at home.
I sent some money for the first time yesterday a small amount for a gift to woman's day on the 8th march instead of sending flowers. she was happy to receive and couldn't thank enough for the gift.
I think it comes down by case by case with the womens you are getting to know and sending money. we did not meet on a dating site. it was a culture exchange site.
I must say that a Russian passport is better than a Ukraine passport for traveling on.
I spoke to another girl from Simferopol. She told me the referendum is going to be a sham, that the Crimean government has already decided it wants to annex Crimea to Russia
The latest from the Crimea now and how they are suffering there.this is the women I know there.
The terrible here happens at us... Promise to switch off the electric power, water, telecommunications. To people threaten. Bandits go on houses as though check passports, and tear documents. These people don't want that we voted for structure of Russia. Any people with syringes with poison went on the cities and stuck in other people. It awfully John. All people in a panic. My mother constantly is afraid to leave the house. Business doesn't work for all because deliveries from Ukraine stopped. Dismissed many staff of banks. All my friends and acquaintances sit without work anybody has no money, work. Politicians from Ukraine on the air suggest to kill inhabitants of the Crimea.
post deliveries from Ukraine to the Crimea. Therefore anything to us can't send. It isn't known yet when everything will work. Probably after a referendum.
Now against us all Ukraine. They don't want that the Crimea passed Russia. The Crimea is a resort. Now Ukraine remains without opportunity to go in the summer to have a rest here.
