president obama secret weapon to stop Vladimir Putin sending in troops and tanks to invade neighbouring Ukraine and the United States is coming to the rescue with selfies.
US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki was mocked Thursday after posting a photo of herself on Twitter holding a sign that read #UnitedForUkraine @StateDeptSpox.” ( T90 tank vs apple Iphone 5)
Psaki, who has worked closely with President Obama since his 2008 campaign and is the chief communications adviser to Secretary of State John Kerry, is smiling and giving a thumbs-up in the photo.
“Presenting The Latest US Strategy to Counter ‘Russian Aggression,’” a snarky blogger posted on zerohedge.com. “#Selfies!”
Critics said the photo from America’s chief diplomatic perch was embarrassing.
“No wonder Putin covers his mouth when speaking to Obama, perhaps to hide his laugh?” wrote another blogger.
“How flippin’ sad has the USA become?” wondered a third critic.
senior military academic is warning Europe is staring down the barrel of its biggest war since 1945. And it could start in days, as Russian forces mass on the border with Ukraine — apparently poised to invade.
The commander of NATO forces in Europe visited the White House overnight to voice his alarm at Moscow’s massive military build-up facing eastern Ukraine — on the other side of the embattled country to the already-annexed Crimean peninsula.
Many other military and political voices are suddenly expressing the same fears.
“By the end of the weekend, Europe’s biggest war since 1945 will have begun or Putin will have started to send the troops on the border home,” declared Professor of the Naval War College at Boston University, John Schindler.
And he is not the only academic voicing this concern.
The troops are reportedly not average Russian conscripts. New intelligence reveals the mechanised infantry units and their tanks to be among the best and most highly trained the Russian Federation has — diverted from their Moscow barracks to their tents and revetments overlooking Ukraine.
Also early this morning Australia time, a group of masked right wing ultra-nationalists began a demonstration inside and out of the Ukraine’s main parliament building - calling for the sacking of the police minister after one of their leaders was shot dead.
There are even reports — unconfirmed at this stage — that Russia has in the past few hours erected a massive field hospital designed to treat wounded soldiers.
And Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rhetoric has also been heating up, with claims that Russian-speaking people in Ukraine are being treated “brutally”.
The much-talked-about Russian defence exercises near the Ukraine seem to be a spoof, designed to explain away the buildup.
While highly publicised exercises have been underway in distant Siberia, only a few “events” seem to have been staged among the troops massed near Crimea and Ukraine.
for the first time in my adult life I am ashamed of my president. I am a conservative but have never seen an administration so far out of there league that they decided selfies where the way to go. Unless the Ukrainian people start posting in English and make an attempt to win the hearts of Americans I fear this war will cost many lives. My wife asks if there is a president like Reagan who was feared by the Russians. It seems the tables have turned as Obama seems to fear any world leader. As the world watches and schedules another meeting with the usual suspects Russia masses troops for an invasion. My wife thinks we need some Maidon fires at the white house, to protect people from what our government is doing to us. She sees the news all over the world and as foreign leaders laugh and make jokes of our president he is taking over health care and costing jobs for Americans. My wife sees the amnesty and knows it only applies to Mexicans, she asks me what if an American or green card holder wants a job.
Europe's biggest war threat since 1945?? Do you mean a regional war between two countries, such as Russia and Ukraine? Or a war involving multiple European countries? Either way, do some serious reading on post-World War II Europe. I think you'll find your premise to be excessive.
The war has not started and it may not. As durak, says. Perhaps cooler heads should prevail. I am not an Obama fan, by far. But he is all we got. Kerry is meeting his Russian counterpart.
It isn't looking good. It looks like the Russians want to set the agenda in these talks. They want to talk about things like changes in the Ukrainian constitution, not peace and stability.
