If their big push is the holy grail of the green card WATCH OUT! You could be getting more than you bargained for. My ex wife is from Belarus and she got herself well aquainted with our welfare system and its laws. It almost cost me EVERYTHING!...the Immigration and Naturalization Service informed me that a whole 70% (!!!) of these marriages go bust after the issuance of a green card...so if all she talks about is a gren card then there is a pretty good chance of disaster lurking ahead. Of course everyone can understand and appreciate the need for legitimacy. And there is where I was a little lacking in observance of the warning signs. It takes a full 2 to 3 years now to obtain the coveted greencard and should you be forced to move to another state it can extend that waiting even longer. For you ladies out there that are eager to come here and be with your men rest assured that you will get your card in due time. The wheels of government here turn slowly too but they are turning...be patient you could be waiting up to 3 years! In the UK the "Fiancee Visa" is by no means the best and fastest way tpo get your lady here with you. If you marry your Russian lady and bring her home (a process that can be a bit traumatic,) rest assured if you have heaps of letters, can provide a home for her, have a reasonable income, and can prove its a real relationship (Mainly they are interested that She is sincere about You !!) then you Will get your lady here quite quickly. My X and I were 2 days between wedding and having her 1 year UK visa issued !! Now thats fast !! With this visa your lady can come to the UK, and immediately find a job if she wishes to without any problems (other than finding the actual job of course) at all. What she doesn't have is Any recourse to public funds. IE: She cannot claim any benefits whatsoever, and she cannot go on the dole either, even if she works for the first 6 months then quits her job, she will get Zip during that first year. Furthermore, if You lose your job you will Not be able to claim any benefits to help you keep her, so you will both have to live on what you get, or you will need to find another job very quickly. She cannot get legal aid either should the need arise. But: She can have dental and medical care on the NHS (not that its much cheaper these days and bearing in mind she comes from a country where when you need a dentist you walk in and pay a smallish fee and have anything you need done on the spot with no waiting list or refusal to have you on their list !!) I found it better to pay for private health insurance and that way she gets the same speed of treatment that she would have got at home, but of course the quality of treatment is way way better, and it wouldn't bankrupt us if she needed a half dozen fillings !!! My X had this plan, then chnaged her mind and went back to her home city !! Like you Mike, I got burned too, in the region of $25,000 with everything that was spent between meeting and her not reuring from a 2 week holiday last August. If she did, I would pick up on it immediately. On the contrary, I've been asked if I can stay there(!) and given that I am internet based, pretty independant and mobile, able to work remotely, so other than any legal issues and so long as there's a connection available, I can be where-ever I want to be. But it needs proper research as like most, I had only briefly looked into Visas TO this country than the other way around. Is it naturally assumed that the woman should follow the man? TimH Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 3/28/2004 7:06:35 AM   Not at all mate, but given our ability to make far more money in the west than we could ever hope to make there, (although in your position of course it makes little difference where you live and work from) and also that even if your girl has a reasonably good job, it is never as secure or protected as any job say in the UK would be, they ladies do tend to lean toward coming to our countries, and a lot of that lean is due to wanting a better life in which to raise her children. It might sound as if these ladies are a little mercenary, but for a woman to want this for her children rather than an uncertain life of possible poverty and hardship in her own country, I feel is a good feature of her character, not a bad one !! The sign of a good and caring future mother. Its an individual thing though Del' and with what you do for work mate I would suggest that you find a beach some place in the Bahamas that has a T1 connection and take you lady there to live ;o))) I on the other hand couldn't go to the FSU and do what I do as there are Very few Jaguars there !! The internet breaks the bounds of conventional revenue generation so locality isn't an issue as it is with selling jags but if you loved her, what's stopping you from selling Skodas? (LOL). You can still earn the same amount where-ever you live; cheques just get re-routed through various accounts, the difference being your disposable income. In the short term, it's certainly food for thought and I agree in the long term that all want a better life for their family and by combining each other's advantages, the world is there to be had and be taken when you want. On the theme of +7 (Double OOOOH seven), sometimes even The World Is Not Enough but I think I would consider doing whatever it took to be with my other half even if that means being thrown in at the deep end as I'm up for a challenge. crashnsplash Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 3/28/2004 7:44:44 AM   You know, one of the first things I told my lady was that her father would always be welcome here and that she would always be able to visit him when she wanted. That really hit home for her and her reaction was one that I answered a very important question for her before she even had a chance to ask it. I am very concerned how she and her dad will handle being so far apart from eachother. But she keeps reassuring me that this is something they have both discussed very much in depth together and that he respects her decisions. The last thing I want to do is to take her from her country if she isn't sure about leaving. And I sure dont want to drive a wedge between her and her dad. In the US, even after we marry we then have to file more papers. I haven't gotten that far yet and I'm not sure of specific details. When she comes, if I even have the slightest feeling she is here for anything besides me, I'm taking immediate action whatever that may be. I think for her to get permanent residency here takes at least a year after all the paperwork, I'm not sure. Maybe someone else could clear that up for me. Tim you deal with Jag's? My mom has an XJS V-12. Cool as hell car, but she has had electrical problems with it. Still a sweet ride though. I like the new ones. Ive had a few corvettes in my time and their pretty nice, but I really want that new porsche 911 GT-3. Only problem is its 100K. Can't quite swing that yet. Bahamas are nice but its a very poor place. I was there a few times and the poverty there is scary, but the people are very friendly. For myself that is the last story i can take from someone getting burnt or screwed by these ladies from europe. There are just too many i have read recently. I don't need to learn from my mistake's in this russian/ukraine lady search. I have learned enough from stories like this in the past 3 week's that it's best for me to find a lady here in the USA (preferably of latin decent already with a green card) .If it's going to go wrong then let it be, at least i will know i wasn't used for obtaining a greencard or a summer vacation ticket.
