Donetsk is still Ukraine, but they list Simferopol, Sevastopol, and Yalta as Russia!
I’m curious as to whom is making the changes,,, girl-agency-website??
Shouldn’t the women be catering or pandering towards western views?? I take this as a slap in the face!
I am in a curious situation. I have had a constant almost daily skype relationship with my girl from an Eastern City for 3 and half months now. I was slick. I found a dead certain way to completely eliminate the agency.I knew her letters were real but guarded .It was cunning and well planned but i outfoxed the fox(agency).Yes she is loyal to Russia but a Ukrainian citizen as well, but agreed all that shit goes out the door if we marry. We want to live in either USA or Czech Republic but we have to meet to start the process. So here it is; i said i want to meet her ASAP and where ? I said Lviv or Kyiv and she said no way because her name is Russian and she speaks only russian and does not feel safe west of eastern ukraine (whew) ! This country is definitely divided and that`s no shit. So i said i will fly to Kyiv then to Donetsk and then taxi to her city and she flatly said it would not be safe for me or any American to be in or near Donetsk or her city of that region.I appreciated her genuine concern. She has traveled much in Europe and likes Prague and that is my heritage but she wants to move away from Ukraine.I am retired so we thought USA or Czech Republic for now.Everything looks good for our first meeting but my big question is if these cities consider themselves Russian now does the rules change for the K-1 visa as to which country they are leaving and do the rules change ? My friend in Ukraine says it is very simple and cheap to obtain a K-1 visa in Ukraine for USA but what if the russians have a say so now ? Any thoughts on this would help ....
Her home is very unstable now and it is more dangerous for you and her in your presence, however she should have no trouble in Kiev or Lvov. The fear for her safety is a fabrication. That same fabrication and disinformation is why there is an elevated threat to you in her region.
Check your P.M.
If this would be your first meeting, don't worry about marriage and immigration just yet.
Considering her statement that she "does not feel safe" in the west of Ukraine, I think it likely that she is either (1) unusually ignorant/and or credulous, or (2) lying (for example, to avoid meeting). To me, the latter seems more likely; by refusing to come to Kyiv and telling you not to come to Donetsk, she's erecting quite a roadblock.
Though I certainly would not recommend foreigners to visit eastern Ukraine right now, she would be at least as safe in Kyiv as in her home town -- in fact, probably safer, because if her town isn't already infested with Russian soldiers and flying squads of Yanukovich's armed hoods, it may well be within the next couple of days, and such lawless action by heavily armed men could lead to people getting hurt.
The tally of Ukrainians who have been harmed so far because they speak Russian: zero.
In case you don't already know this, at least half of Kyiv's population speak Russian every day. Unless your Cinderella lives on a kolkhoz at the end of 15 km of unpaved road, she is very likely to know at least one Russian-speaker who was in Kyiv in the past few weeks, with Absolutely No Problems.
I only know about K-1 processing from some friends and some reading (definitely not an expert!), but common-sense logic suggests that the State Dept. would process her K-1 application based on her citizenship, which in turn would be based on her passport. If she has a Ukrainian passport, she is a Ukrainian no matter which side she is on of whatever border.
As far as I have been able to discover, the US doesn't have any consular offices in Ukraine other than the one at the Embassy. Accordingly, as long as she has a Ukrainian passport, she would have to travel into the dragon's jaws in Kyiv, where Bandera's ghost awaits her with a long knife (or so she seems to believe).
If she would prefer to have her visa interview in the warm, civilized and congenial city of Moscow, she probably can move to Crimea and obtain a Russian passport.
There's a lot going on here: for your sake, keep your eyes open, and your feet on the ground.
Sunvolt,,, if I were you, I would keep the motor running but slam it into park for a while! You haven’t met yet and nothing can replace a meeting in person, even if you have a lot of time on video skype,, you haven’t met for real.
“I knew her letters were real but guarded”
In a way,, this is good and bad. 1. You are a foreigner and a stranger, she should be guarded if she is a sincere and genuine person. 2. If she is still guarded,,, she also realizes that it is too soon to commit 100%! You need to meet and then plan a future.
With her misgivings about the west, and you not caring which country you live in,,, maybe the Czech Republic would be the best for the two of you. Although,,, C-R is also in Russia’s sights!
I forgot to mention her only day off is sunday and she wont get any vacation until january.I still would like to meet her much sooner but she only has one day off so it would not be much of a meeting. I guess i have to sit and ride it out.Her daughter is off to college and she is very single and home every night.LR and Durak your points are well noted . I have to convince her the west is not all that bad (lol) !

AOB hasn’t made any changes yet.

I guess you guys have not been reading or watching the news lately. Crimea is no longer part of Ukraine; it is now a part of Russia. Simferopol, Sevastopol, Yalta, and all of Crimea belong to the Ruissian Federation, not Ukraine. It has nothing to do with their political views and they are not trying to slap you in the face; they are only giving their proper addresses so that you may write to them. Now you will have to add in the cost of a Russian visa to your travel expense to Crimea.
Well,
Confirmed kills and casualties have occured exactly on the street and much mayhem in the city center of Mariupol(Lenin Street) where my lady lives and works. She emailed this to me this morning .So her daughter`s school is closed and her shop closed.Doesnt look good for us right now.I knew Mariupol would be next on the hit list ( sigh).............
lonelyranger1701, I do not understand your analogy at all.
The people of the Western world need to understand that Crimea is now a part of Russia, will be for the foreseeable future, and could very well be for the next several hundred years. The big mistake that started the Crimean mess was Nikita Khrushchev giving away the Crimea in 1954. If he had kept it a part of Russia as he should have, there never would have been any problems in Crimea.
Wineman,,,,,, you write the same way a Dunt or a Russian Troll would write.
“The people of the Western world need to understand that Crimea is now a part of Russia,”
WHY??
You, yourself said that Crimea was given to Ukraine by Russia. Right or wrong, it still makes Crimea Ukrainian property!
Russia didn’t ask to get Crimea back, or even make a case for it in world court,, they just took it by force! Stole it!!!
At this very moment, Russian cowards/criminals are making their way into eastern Ukraine, hoping to claim more of it for their own! Are we,,, the west, or more importantly Ukraine, suppose to just understand and accept this??
