This is an experience which occurs for the first time in my practice of working with foreigners in Ukraine. I am sure all of us know stories of incredible deceptions. Many of you have met scammers whose aim was your money, not you. And you spent money on them. You sent them certain amounts, paid their expenses, bought expensive gifts. The result is always the same. You realize that they have scammed you. How much money do you need to waste to understand the girl is a scam? 2k, 5k, 10k?
My new friend, a citizen of the UK, has given to a girl $25k in cash. Not to mention all other expenses and gifts. And I know he worked hard to earn it. They were engaged and the girl even visited his parents in India and was given all the honors a future wife can be given in a noble Indian family.
The story is a long one so I will make it short. The girl asked for money from the guy’s parents promising to give it back soon. They gave her $12k from their retirement money. But the girl never gave it back. Soon she stopped communicating with her fiancé. The man started an investigation and found out that his fiancée while being engaged with him was going out with 4 more other foreigners (when her man was in the UK) and they were giving her money too. So she ended up a very prominent scammer and a real whore as she had sex with all those men to get their money.
She refused to give back anything, neither the money the man and his family had given her, nor all the expensive presents and the engagement ring. The man was visiting Ukraine once a month. He found out all the information about her, her foreign lovers and her local boyfriends she was living with. He got information from her vk account and even information from her bank account. He met her parents and friends. What he wanted was to make her give the engagement ring back and the money she’d taken from his parent. No use.
When he met me and told the story I was quite sure he could do nothing with it, I told him just to forget about this nightmare. Otherwise he would waste more time and money with no result. But he was very persistent. So we found a good lawyer. The lawyer told him that his chances to win the process were miserable. All the money was given voluntarily and according to the civil and criminal code of Ukraine she had committed no crime.
The only chance was that she didn’t know about the possible legal consequences of such a lawsuit and would agree to co-operate at the stage of police activities connected with the procedure of the legal statement. So they drew up the statement and the lawyer took it to the police. First the police refused to accept it at all. But at last they agreed at least to bother the girl with questioning her. All the hope was that she would be afraid and would compensate at least something.
But she turned out to be a tough cookie. She just told the police to f@ck off and not to bother her with nonsense cases anymore.
The scammed man didn’t give up though. Now he is working with lawyers specializing in civil cases. They want to get this case directly to the court. And the lawyers say the chances for success are 1 to 99 and even the chance that the court won’t refuse to listen to it is tiny. Well, we will see.
Someone here might have any experience in such cases?
unfortunately, as there was no written agreement to enforce, there is no provision in Ukrainian law that addresses this
particular issue although a few years ago it was tried as part of a comprehensive law that would address deceptive acts.
Unfortunately, as many Rada MPs were also engaged in deceptive acts this law did not make it beyond first reading.
There has been talk among some about trying to pass such reform again because as part of anti-corruption actions there is a new desire
among a minority of MPs to do something to clean up this image that foreigners have about scammers.
It will be a tough battle but it is necessary if we hope to attract more foreign investment and tourists.
Time will tell. When I return in August I will bring it up to our representatives in Kherson and Odesa oblasts of which I
have friendly relations.
Most girls with bad intentions know the law and what they can get away with. Until recently, many bad girls knew it was
possible to have accomplice beat and rob a foreigner without fear of prosecution although those types of cases are now
pursued more often by police an prosecuters due to the risk of lost tourism dollars.
Personally, I would have a friend set up a revenge scam for her.
Have her think a rich man wants to be with her but wants to take her to Egypt or Turkey which are places in which women have virtually no rights. He takes her to that country and leaves her there without documents or money. soon she will beg for help
because her alternative will be make a deal with this man to return some stolen money in exchange for her travel documents
or she will quickly become a prostitute to survive in such a place. Currently, a "lost" Ukrainian girl in Turkey will quickly find herself being sold to ISIS in Syria which would be good justice for a whore as she.
This should give you a good understanding of why some of us are down on the scammers and have a negative view of FSU dating?!
Where is the front line of this battle with scammers?? The police, government officials, agencies, websites?? Nope! If there is such a thing as a front line or battle ground,,,, it is right here on the 4um!
While over there,,, I asked the question: What do you think about this foreign dating,,,, is it real or is it bogus?? I think I asked the question 6 to 8 times,,,, never got a response! Everyone just smiles. Taxi drivers, bartenders, restaurant and hotel staff, interpreters, even the stores and gift shops benefit from this,,, so who among the locals is going to say a bad word about it? The type of man doesn’t matter either,,, sex tourists or wife hunters,,, and in fact, the bolder the scammer, the more money there is to spread around.
This sounds very similar to a story I read on here about a year ago,,,, but the guy was rich, and lost almost everything.
I also have a story from my first experiences in Ukraine,,,,, at the Prestigious and Luxurious Zirka Hotel in Odesa?! (sarcasm) While down in the lobby of the hotel, I talked with a fellow American who sent his girl 26,000USD without meeting her. He flew over 4 times to met with her,, but each time she refused him. I said: Dude,,, you could be writing to a Dude??!! The guy was in tears.
It’s really sad, when a guy must scrutinize and doubt everything that is being told to him,,, by a person that you should be building up trust and love with. Many guys will come here and claim, that “their” girl is honest and sincere,,, because she did one or more of the following: had sex, didn’t ask for money, told the inside story on agencies, gave him a gift, pays for her own taxis, calls everyday, uses email,,, etc, etc! While these are all good things,,,,, it does not prove that her ultimate intentions are sincere.
I only know one person from India,,, and it was more than 30 years ago. His parents chose a wife for him. Very old fashioned and traditional,,,,, a guy like that in the hands of a professional scammer?? Arrgh! Play Dough has a better chance!
How to improve the image of FSU dating?? Our letters still go from our computers, through the websites computers, to a computer in her hometown,,,, usually in an agency! The problems are within the agencies!
I would agree that if you give someone a gift then that's what it is - a gift. Don't expect to get it back. Just like if you give a girl an engagement ring and then the marriage is called off she is legally entitled to keep it because you gave it to her.
The key is don't give anyone anything till you are well into the relationship and then go conservatively. My girlfriend and I exchange gifts at New Year but the key word here is exchange. She buys me something and I buy her something. It's not flowing in one direction - from me to her.
On another note, I know of an interpreter in Kiev. He would work with foreign clients from USA, UK, etc. Anyway he would get all buddy buddy with them and pretend to be their friend even hugging them. He would then ask them to borrow $1000-$5000 with no intention of ever paying it back. Using this method with several of his 'clients' he was able to buy a very nice apartment in Podol. He was never pursued legally. Most of them were too embarrassed or just wrote it off.
First of all I don't believe an Indian (UK domicile) and/or his family gave her US Dollars.
TomZ, USD12K, even to an Indian living in UK, is a lot of money, he might be a student working illegally in a kebab fast food outlet, he might be a cleaner, but even if he has a proper job, perhaps taking home GBP1.5K per month, the equivalent of GBP8K is a lot of money never mind the equivalent of GBP16K he gave her of his own money.
LR, in the US the engagement ring has been determined to be a symbol of a pending "wedding contract"
And the lady can be sued for return of the ring. Obviously it doesnt work like that in Ukraine
I don't believe anything can be done to an FSU scammer legally. It would be hard enough if an American scammed an American. You can put it up on a website as Martin did, but that can also put you in legal trouble, as Martin found out.
Prevention is the key, but what would you do with a "sleeper"? That is, one who would stay with you for several years with no intention of staying. Perhaps, even have a baby. You would be responsible for child support. Your income would also be subject to alimony.
Even if he is Highly Skilled Specialist being from India and working in the UK doesn't mean he is earn big $$$$, like they do in the U.S.A. I had met highly educated people living in the UK making the average equivalent of $30k plus living in the UK is ridiculous expensive. India people have strong core tradition...like arranged marriages.
It was not a scam, he just paid a lot ££££ for a free piece of ....
He should had listened to the Beatles' song- Can't buy me love".
Where in your OP does it suggest the guy is a skilled specialist?
It is without doubt that many (former British Commonwealth) Asian's travel to UK supposedly for an education and, if I recall correctly, are allowed to work something like a maximum 20 hours per week except that many obtain fake school acceptances, never attend an education facility, and are working full time jobs illegally.
And, perhaps, an average job in UK returns a take home pay of circa GBP1,500.00 to GBP2,000.00 per month.
If we are talking about a "Superman" then, without the benefit of a crystal ball, how the fuck was I or any of us supposed to guess and where I am located, where I live, surrounded by wall to wall Asians and with an Asian girlfriend don't start calling me a racist you worthless piece of shit!
Another reason why "I pity the fool" that cried wolf. She dumped you or you found out she was not marriage material after paying for all those good times.
I strongly believe that Highly educated people or wealthy individuals are not always the smartest no matter where they come from. See Donald Trump on his latest remarks.
BTW.....The immigration system in the UK is a joke ( no offense intended ). In the UK people who got caught working or living illegally in the UK without a passport, cannot be deport. Here in the USA, we locked them up and process for deportation. Most of them work illegally but also they collect benefits. Most British citizens pay 45% to the treasury compared to 25% here in the USA.
I recall watching the UK immigration programme on TV filmed at airports, channel tunnel etc.
As they hauled the illegals out from underneath trains and the backs of trucks they pretty much took good care of them, literally a cup of tea, a meal and a place to live.
When I returned to UK after 6 years living/working around Benelux I received bugger all except, one time, Dover customs dismantling my car whilst unsuccessfully looking for drugs.
One thing that we should all do, is to report the women that are scammers. Not the ones that took a gift and ran,,,, but the ones that spew nothing but BS lies. Most of the women I wrote to and met were just chair fillers,,, signed up with an agency and go out for an occasional meal. I don’t think reporting that would have much benefit.
"Here in the USA, we locked them up and process for deportation."
'Well that illegal guy who murdered someone at the Embarcadero was set up for deportation five times and was still free on the streets.'
Only in California bro!
I knew a high educated and skill buddy who was illegal. He started a company, bought a house, cars for his family ..was living the dream but got caught and was deported after 3 months in jail.
"I strongly believe that Highly educated people or wealthy individuals are not always the smartest no matter where they come from. See Donald Trump on his latest remarks."
Many look at Donald Trump's remarks on Mexicans with contempt. They disregard his last sentence,
"Some I assume are good people."
The liberal press is having a good time running with this. Trump is not backing down. Governor Pete Wilson of California used the illegal immigrant platform to get re-elected in the mid 90s. The liberal press was just as loud then, but that did not translate in the polls.
I saw Trump talking about it on TV last night. He said 80% of the women coming over the border are raped. His news source was a top Spanish news source. CNN did do some checking. About, 8% of the population, but 15% of the prison population are Latino (mostly Mexicans). Who is to say Trump is not right? There is no documentation on what or who is coming over.
I have no problem with legal immigration. I have a big problem with illegal immigration. Illegal immigration hurts legal immigration. These people jump the line and once they get here, they get preference over those who do it the right way. This would be the reason why K1 or other visas take more time. Immigration officials use their precious time catering to these people. A sister of my ex wife, applying the right way took 20 years to have her papers processed.
