This has nothing to do with The topic about which it was listed. So I'm trying to associate it with a new heading (clean up a little). Hope nobody minds.....
I don't (can't) dance at a disco unless I have had two glasses of beer. Its arguable that I shouldn't dance then either ;) but seriously I am can do pretty well - ONLY after having the required two beers to loosen up.
My Moldovans had no problem with that and I can tell you it was great - dancing with both at the same time. More seductive dancers I have never seen.
But then we went back to the table and I ordered another beer. (We had danced for quite a while.) Evidently with the third beer I went over the line, becasue sudenly i was being asked if i drank regularly (I don't), if I get drunk often (of course I don't), if there was any "drunks" in my family (there are not).
The third beer came and I nursed it for about an hour while being watched with wary eyes by my Moldovans.
I assure you I did not order a fourth - or have even that much alchohol again.
what's a disco? lol. On the music theme - what kind of music do they have over there in their night clubs? I'm quite choosy; I won't dance to 60's, 70's, 80's and even some 90s rubbish but have a preference for an ibiza type beat. I was in Germany a couple of years and was invited to go to a club after a cocktail bar but didn't even get as far as the door once I heard what nonsense they were playing! I don't need to get drunk to dance either but the first 2 mins are always the hardest but once I'm going, there's no stoppping me. :)
Thanks for the tip about the limit on alcohol not that I go daft with it anyway.
We are back to my descriptive again :o))
"Like a bucket of very beautiful eels" ;o))
Del` Im with you mate :o))
And fortunately so is most of the FSU I have clubbed it in :o)
Roll another phat one mate :o)))
And you dont need to go daft with it to upset a Russian prospective partner mate, thats the point !! One or two might just wash, go much over that and its "asta la vista baby!!! "
Russian women really are that concerned about drinkers !!
Thank you all for your eye opening comments about how FSU women see alcohol comsumption.
In California at least, laws are so strict about drinking & driving that the mere thought of drinking/driving/beating your woman combination is almost a thing of the past except among the lowest and poorest minority 'trailer trashers' or 'ghetto bangers' of the communities.
There is little or no public transportation to speak of around here, so driving for us in southern Calif. is like owning shoes for most people elsewhere. Must have transportation.
My point is that nowadays, people think twice about simply going out to get drunk at a bar or a party, knowing they have to get behind the wheel to get home to sleep it off.
Again, thank you for the FSU female perspective on alcohol, I will make it a point to discuss the topic with 'harem' asap....:)
Alcohol for me has always and only been a celebratory tool AFTER something good happens.
None of this "I hate my pathetic life, I'll get drunk and beat the wench to feel better crap", for me.
On the other hand, I cherish a woman who learns how to serve me a well made martini up, three olives while dinner is cooking and after I'm done paying all the damn bills...:)
Very forthright and honest views GL,alcohol is a very pleasant diversion used correctly but sadly there are still to many who take the latter view you wrote about.
do the "harem duties" involve one mixing, one preparing the olives, and one serving?.....or am I being greedy??........:))
Nothing inappropriate about keeping a 'harem' if you can afford it and the women buy into it.....BUT, beware that with the harem come the multiple mother-in-laws, lol....

Seems to me that "disco" is the only word (in English of course) I ever heard to describe a dance club in the FSU. It may seem antiquated here - but it is the term that they used.
Tim - I did like your reference to a bucket of very beautiful eels.
Another difference you might find in a FSU "disco" is that a group of guys will just get up and start dancing. Sometimes two, sometimes ten in a group. (If you see this in America - you have probably wondered into the wrong club!) It's just acceptable in the FSU and from what I understand - no indication that they are gay.
Also I should not - that although the beer in Ukraine was stronger - I was nowhere near approaching "drunk" with two glasses. Nor was I with the third.
One of my Maldovans danced right in front of me - making eye contact almost the entire while - she repeated movements with her hands - making it clear that I was to follow along - there was some strategic touching. It is dificult to descibe but as it progressed it was the most erotic thing I have ever done with my clothes on!
This behavior had my other Moldovan on the dance floor next to us before the next dance. This woman (who happen to be the one staying with me) told me later that she was jealous and didn't like to see me having so much fun with the first.
The other Moldovan seemed to have a style all her own - she had complex movements but kept a distance from anyone else and didn't look at anything in particular.
Wouldnt want them all over for Christmas myself either !!!!
What a war that could turn out to be !!!
Theey do indeeet, Disco is the name for All night clubs in the FSU as a colective group term. Dont be put off by the word, its not all back to the 70`s and afro hair does :o) Unless you meet the lady who doesnt own a razor then her armpits may resemble an afro fo course :o)
Here here on the format Jet, and your ladies will not be upset if you watch and enjoy, you are a man, its noraml to look and appreciate, but of course, dont touch :o))
Often groups of dancers will walk around and dance next to your table too, they expect a tip !! and if you dont give one you will offend your own girl as much as teh dancer !! Some of these girls will almost lap dance you too, again dont be concerned your gilr knows its all for fun and a tip :o))
"Russian dance music is completely different from that in the west"
Not from the clubs I go to in the UK it isnt mate :o) Aciiiiiiid :o)))
Tim: Of course I'm not familiar with the clubs that you visit in the UK but I've never heard anything like it. I asked my one of my girls if she would help me pickout some CDs with music like that which we danced to.
(Music, like most everything else in the FSU is sold at kiosks in converted building "department stores" (like "disco" its the word that they use for these things). If you are not fluent in Russian - GOOD LUCK - because absolutely nothing is written in English in the music stores. You will have no idea what you are buying. But there are a lot of erotic and a lot of cartoon pictures on CD jewel cases.)
Most of the people I have played these CDs for here in the US have never heard anything like this music.
I bought some polpular Russian music CDs on eBay - and found extreme variations. Some sounded like techno, others like goth, but the majority was this bouncy, phrase repeating, electronic dance music I heard in the disco.
One big surprise at the disco - someone at the table next to ours ordered a water-pipe (a hookah). It was large and chrome plated and of course, the flexible mouth piece was passed around so that all at the table and some of the dancers took a "hit".
I have to admit I had seen hookahs before, back in my college days, but nothing as big or eleaborate as this. (I know they are legal in Amsterdam - but I have never been there).
I asked one of my Moldovans what they were smoking (duh...?) and she used a Russian word which I didn't understand. Then she just said "It's narcotic..." as if it was no big deal.
These things are, of course, extremely illegal in the States so I had to get a picture. Not wanting to be too obvious I had one of my Moldovans pose and then I turned the camera just before I clicked the shutter. My buddy was less concerend and just went up and snapped a picture.
Later I saw an English language newspaper from Kyev and saw these things advertised as options at discos.
I wish I had jumped in earlier on the booze topic...
One of the 'quizzes' my lady sent me contained the
question "What are your feelings about alcohol?"
Based on the discussion here, it seems to be
an 'acid test' that can make or break you.
Jet's description was especially interesting.
Even though he wasn't getting drunk, the fact
that he was on his third beer seemed to turn
on the 'caution light' with his ladies.
Good thing to know - simply drinking a lot may
be bad, regardless of it's effect on you.
Fortunately (or not, depending on your
perspective and bank account) I have a
sweet tooth where alcohol is concerned:
Bailey's, Chambord, Frangelico. . .
pricey stuff here in the states. Hence,
low consumption rate.
But my lady likes Bailey's as well. . . woo hoo!
As for music, here's some of what I've got in
my collection:
Radiotrance - Cool techo stuff, especially 'Carnival'
PPK - Again, techno
Bering Strait - Believe it or not, Country Music!
Tatu - Need I say more?
Bravo - Classified as 'Russian Rock', but (to me) more of
a cross between ska and pop.
I'd like to hear from those of you who have been over there
a few times - how much 'Russian' music do you hear, as opposed
to European/American stuff?
The smoking water pipe your talking about is called something like "Koreleon" I seen this at many disco's in the Ukraine. Very popular over there. From what I was told by my guides is that it is not a narcotic. They smoke many variations of spices, herbs and fruit.
I tried it and didn't get high. I did get a slight apple taste from it. I imagine it could be a narcotic very easily though. Depends on where you are and who you are with. Also, many FSU girls are very sensitive about drinking too much due to their experience with many Alcoholics which usually included their fathers who ended up abandoning the family. You can drink but don't drink too much! I got drunk with one of my girls and it wasnt a deal breaker but then again she got drunk right along with me. So, if your girl is drinking then go for it. If not, then behave yourself.
Deanis, a very good point about alcohol! You are right – every lady who had a bad experience with an ex-husband alcoholic will not like your drinking much. However if she comes to the disco, she will also feel uncomfortable without a glass of wine or beer. So, jetmba, 2 glasses of beer for a man is quite normal (but obviously not more, if you are with a Lady).
As for smoking water pipe - it is called Kol’yan and it is not a narcotic. It is harmless – just to relax and have a good time.
Iv`e been Exchanging correspondance with a honey for over 2 weeks now. the last week it has been every day, i have mail from here waiting when i arrive home from work. Last night`s mail the alcohol question poped up. I told things to here straight as best i could. No mail Today. Perhaps i should have lied..umm this booze is a real problem for these girls aint it..
She said that she wanted her future hubby to not drink or smoke. I told her most western men drank and that i did also and that it wasn't so much the fact the we drink but more our behavour when we do and perhaps the volume that differs. oh well we all have our sin`s
I remember mentioning in one email to my X, long before we even met, that I had had to get up in the night for a drink, I got a lecture in her next letter about alcohol not being necessary and that it was bad habit and all sorts !!
I wouldn't have minded, but I only had a glass of Coke !!! :o)
Of course it was quickly straightened out but it could have got really big and reallyfast if I hadn't nipped the missunderstanding in the bud.
> You should try to calm her by telling her you only drink occasionally and socially
To me, that sounds fair enough.
It's a tricky subject by all accounts and one that you probably need to word quite carefully to avoid any mis-understandings. I'd apogise in my reply to her (even if you feel you don't need to) about any misunderstanding you gave her. Rather than generalise, tell her exactly how you drink as Tim describes above.
Check her profile, does she state under the drinks section "socially" if so you should be able to explain that you are the same, if she states None or No you have a big problem :///
LOL,
wine, oddly enough, is no where near as frowned upon as spirits, I think you should be fine Tony, so long as you dont make 10 bottles and then drink them all the same weekend :o))
TIM, there goes your chance for an italian passport. 10 bottles? That's appetizer where My family comes from.... Yeah, my wedding is gonna be a mess huh?
