All of the extremist groups have a goal. The 9/11 group were trying to bankrupt the country. By doing so, we would eventually abandon the Middle East. Note that a lot of the people who join terrorist groups usually have criminal backgrounds or feel alienated in society. You can compare them to like the Mafia, the crips, or MS-13 running a country.
