You need to get your head examined. You are seeing things that aren't there. Where did Danny say the soup he was talking about was Borscht? It may very well be, but you don't know that. And where did he say he just discovered that?
TBH, in all the FSU restaurants I would have eaten in in Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Russia and Latvia I don't recall ever seeing any other type of soup on any restaurant menu, I recall one cold winter night when in Odessa I tried Borsch, it was OK and I enjoyed my meal but it wasn't all that, it wasn't something that I would rush back to try again
