I'm back after four great days in Petersburg, a lot of new impressions to digest. Stayed in hotel Sovetskaya, it was fine, it had everything You'll need, bars, nightclub, security, ATM, exchange office etc. The people from Blind date took good care of me, really professional people. The tap water had a cheerful yellow color, I was told that it was due to the waterpipes being made of iron, but I drank bottled water just to be on the safe side. I will not tell anything regarding the date with my girl more then that the relationship will continue;-)
Does that include your airfare Nisse? I'm glad everything is ok with that agency, I'll be dealing with them too very soon. I was waiting to hear from you when you got back, glad everything went well for you.
posted this under another topic: "getting through customs with cash"
Had no problems myself last weekend when I was in Petersburg, asked a bloke on the plane who had a "year visa", businessman type and he said that the document at the airport that you use to declare the money was in Russian, and that he never used it. he was right aswell, it was in Russian only so I thought bugger this and just used the green channel on arrival and departure and it worked fine, but if you get pulled in don't blame me;-)
On thing that was annoying though was the immigration officers, when I got my pass and visa back from the Russian embassy it had an already filled in immigration card but my newly found friend sad that it's best to use the card You get on the plane and filled in. Sometimes they want both of them, and he was right again, saved time and hussle
to have that in my pocket when the first one was not enough. b.t.w Polkovu airlines was better then I expected, always on time, good service on board etc.
Nisse- If you wouldn't mind could you give us guys a good description of your trip? I take it you attende a social. If so, how were the girls, what was the ratio, were they beautiful? Respectfully, No details needed about new ladyfriend.
ok, the people from the agency met me before the meeting with my girl, I was only there to meet the one girl, I never went to a social. They informed me about the does and don't and gave good advice regarding safety and how to get around the city. Also the guide/interpreter was really good and gave recommendations regarding restaurants. Got a really nice impression about the whole thing. One day we went to "Podvorie Restaurant"
This place is in Pavlovsk near the park and the palace, and quite a popular destination
for tourists. It's all in the Russian style with Russian food and everything. It's located in the huge wooden house built specifically for this purpose. It looks somewhat like a house of a rich person in Old Russia, with the tower and other stuff. All the waiters wear
national costumes. Recommended! It's probably a good thing to combine going to Podvorie with visiting Pavlovsk or Tsarskoe Selo. Also we went to a Georgian resturant one evening, can't remember the name now, think it was "Kavkaz".
they offered to, but transfer was included in the package I bought so there was no need. Apart from that I had to get up so early (3.pm) when I left home, so all I wanted was to get to the hotel to get my head down for an hour or so.
Nisse
strange about the documents you speak of. I have been to Russia 3 times and every time english documents were made available. A hostess on the plane asked you what you wanted, Russian or English
"It's all in the Russian style with Russian food and everything."
Wow ;o)) If I didnt know better I would have thought you were in Russia mate !! ;o))
Gotta agree with the Georgian restaurant idea, went to one in Omsk with Natash` food was amazing and the service was excellent, and it wasnt expensive either.
Me too ID, and Ive been a shit load more times than 3 !!
Also I have never had to fill in any card other than the one in the passport which the Russian Embassy in London kindly filled in for me, just as you say you had Nisse !!!
And the one for customs at the airport, damn you were shit lucky there Nisse !! Its mandatory to fill in two when you arrive, and two more when you leave, if you dont the fines are Very Very high !!!
As to them being in Russian, at every airport Ive used they have an English version pinned to the wall/desk, if you cant find the forms in English, and I havent been able to only twice, then just fill in the Russian version using the "example" provided as a guide if you dont read Russian that is :o)
bloody hell, the only documents they had on the plane was the immigration form, nothing for the customs, but I'll be sure to fill one in the next time;-) Got through on my charm I guess;-)
