hi all
Again and again( it happens at least once in a couple of months)
I would like to remind some of you that this forum has a certain topic ( see About Forum page). And it is not a private chat room, as some of you obviously think. If there is a definite question from forum members-lets keep close to the topic and dont overload the topics with one-sentence remarks . If you have an information that reffers to the topic of discussion-please share it.Other posts will be considered to be offtopic and will be deleted.
To lock off topics that have already been thourougly answered is not a good idea.
The questions they began with can still be helpful to new readers, but as these are now locked they will slip way back into the history topics which will be much harder for new readers to find, hence we will have the same topics come up again in the future under totally new threads.
So a few topics go off topic, but all that do have been thoroughly answered and reading the first 10 to 12 posts even on the ones which are now "chat threads" will provide the answers to the question that the topic was started for, if they are locked they will then need to be found, and I certainly have never looked past page 4 ot the site history !! I dont have the time or patience for one thing !!
Topics were closed, not deleted. All information is still available. They were closed just because they got a way too long. Its a common practice on forums to close old threads. And they still can be found by those who needs this information.
I'm not sure how it is used on other forums...but maybe it's possible to give some hints for the new ones who come to this forum about where they can find this of that information???
Oh sorry, I didn't know about it:)
Thanks for answering that, hope that the new people here will read it and they will know how they can find the information they are interested in:)
Yep, and that was my main poin-offtopic posts become an obstacle for those who looks for information. The topic I closed started with definite questions, at the end they turned into the discussion too far away from thread topic. If topic has a name, lets keep it up to it, as simple as that.
Everyone is mostly welcome, we greately appreciate all postings of our members-but there are a few rules that would keep this forum clean, active and interesting...and avoiding offline posts is just a common rule for all forums. I hope we all understand that, and if there is any disagreements-please send those directly to people who own this site and forum ;-))
Olga, sometimes the chit chat is an important filler. There is not always something pertinent to talk about. The idle conversations allow us to stay engaged with the forum and connected to each other. My very humble opinion is that a little off topic chatter is a small price to pay for keeping people involved.
Olga, you have to realize that one very important thing that makes Fiance.com such a good site is this forum. You could not pay enough money to hire someone to take Tim and other knowedgable people’s places on this forum. These guys can relate to us, help us, befriend us, encourage us, and rebuke as we travel on this journey together here.
A little extra patience and latitude in our discussions will benefit new members and old members, and the success of the Fiance.com organization.
Thank you Ens.
I will add, no-one would be able to pay me to be here if I didn't feel at home and comfortable being here, I post because I can help, thats the reward I get from it, knowing that what may have cost me dearly in heart and finances, can be avoided by others using the knowledge it has taken me many years and many pitfalls to gain.
The chit chat that happens in these threads often brings up ideas and questions that would otherwise never happen, its the mix of all that is said here which makes it the best forum on the net, if it is reduced to a question answer status with no banter it wont be much use to anyone, because it will be boring and noone will bother to post or be here !!
That's right Tim. That's why I came to this one. I have not seen a more active and personal forum than this one. If anyone wants information or knowledge they must sift through everything in order to get it no matter what kind of truth you're looking for in life. It never just drops into yuor lap.
The "Truth" as you put it is usually answered by the end of the first page, so if someone new comes to the forum, they can read whats been said, but because they are locked they cant add anything or ask anything, so they start a whole new thread with teh Same subject to air their point. Locking topics doesnt stop chit chat, that will go on anyway, what it does do is create lots and lots of copy threads so that eventually there will be 60 pages of historical topics to wade through (there are 30 now !!!) and lots of new threads about the same old topics being created each week !!
And I thought keeping up with a few threads was hard work :o) I wouldnt want to administer that lot !!!
Olga,
Let us rant like the repetitive rabid mad dogs we are at times, please...
Please keep in mind that most of us are simple males who need to be told the same thing over and over and over again until it finally start sinking into our thick barbaric, primitive one mind track brains.
So what if the thread is too long...if we keep it going sometimes for too long is because we may be in the middle of a 'creative lapse' that keeps us from starting or thinking of a new interesting topic.
Be patient with us, oh all knowing all powerful Olga
You are absolutely right GL !!! Sometimes its hard to get the creative juices flowing, and just chatting and banter in a thread has more than once to my Certain knowledge inspired someone to start a totally new thread, it really is Not a waste of time keeping some of these old chestnuts roasting :o))
