Except www.go-russia.com/tissa.htm you may look for the information at
www.yoshkar-ola.com/travel/cities/cheboksary.html#flights
However I liked the prices on go-russia. more.
And it is not necessarily to take slippers with you (to my mind it is even a little bit ridiculous :-)). Are you going to take your own plate, spoon, folk ;-)) Yes, it is true that in Russia we wear them at home, but when guests come they never bring slippers with them¡K Only if they can¡¦t part with their own :ƒº) In every home there are at least 1-2 spare pairs of slippers for guests¡K
"Yes, it is true that in Russia we wear them at home,"
Here in England too Ultra, so taking mine with me is a perfectly normal thing to do where ever I go :o))
and Tim - I think I got the bit about the Trains, It sunk in about 2 mths back.
However If I cant get a flight, any suggestions - Is hitchiking safe in Russia?
P.S. Slippers now on my packing list along with stuffed Bear, although I think I have something better to snuggle with. Poor bear may get left in suit case..
Would you walk up to a grizzly bear and offer to shake its hand ?
DUH !!!!! NO !!!!!
philb:
You wernt a Jap Kamakazi Pilot in your last life were you ?
Or are you related to Charles Bronson ?
Please check back through the threads and read the warnings, both from myself, and Many others about the dangers of FSU trains, unless you are a local, and even then its not very safe !!!
I always take a new toothbrush when I travel anywhere, it doesnt make your things wet on the trip out because its never been used, and who cares if it does when you are coming home :o)
I am curious were you traveling platskartny? I always travel first or second class on the trains and buy all of the tickets in my cabin. Honestly I have never had a major problem. In fact I feel alot safer on the train then sitting on a YAK-40 during a landing in Luhansk. I tried doing a search in regards to your adventures on the train and guess I just grew impatient wading through all of the posts.
A bit about myself. I have been involved in traveling to the FSU and searching for a mate ther since January 2001. I am regular poster on a couple other boards and just recently came across this one.
I just returned from Ukraine and Cyprus this past week. I have driven in both Ukraine and Russia (always an adventure), and have even been known to hitchhike there on occassion (although I would never recommend this to anyone).
I have never set foot on an FSU train through advice given me by locals, travel agents and from a friend who does International VIP security.
I havnt ever done a Yak 40 into Lugansk, but I have done an Antanov 24 in and out of there a few times !! hairy, but no harm done :o))
Trains in Russia and all FSU countries are renound for being unsafe places for foreigners in particular to travel.
Warnings abound about not accpeting drink or food from anyone on a train that you dont know, and that includes the train staff !!!
The only safe ways, I was informed, to travel on trains there, is to have a sealed from the train compartment, ie, only accessable from outside the train when stationary, or Dont use them, thats 100% safe, even better odds than a condom (99% if you didnt know :o) )
philb- 3 1/2 yrs. of searching for a mate seems to be quite a long time to me. Either you are extremely unlucky, extremely picky, or extremely ugly. Or maybe you're just out for a good time. Please explain. :o)
It took me only about 6 months or so less to acheive the happy ending guys......maybe Phil is like the Irish guy who wore 3 condoms to bed with his girlfriend and when asked why he replied "to be sure,to be sure,to be sure".........:)))
Nothing wrong with caution!!
Alright guys. Yeah three and a half years is a while (atleast for most guys who travel to the FSU to find a wife).
I have done things a little differently then a lot people. I began this process in January 2001 by writing 10 or 20 women and slowly narrowing it down to one. I went to see her in August. Spent a month in the Anapa area. Things seemed to be going well and the two of us decided to further pursue our relationship. I made two additional trips to see this one woman. Both of these trips were to her home in Novokuznetsk. The last was in June of 2002. It was only after having spent these three periods of time together (each about one month)did it become apparent to the two of us that we did not have a future together. We remain friendly to this day and continue to communicate occassionally.
After this I kind of kicked back for a while. In December 2002 I again started writing to a number of women. I followed the same method as the previous time narrowing it down to one woman who I went to see in March of 2003.
This woman lived in the Luhansk area. I flew into Kiev and would continue by train to Debaltsevo (near Luhansk. I had several hours to kill before my train left. I was sitting in the VIP lounge in the train station waiting when I struck up a conversation with a stunning red head (at least she was stunning to me and still is). Before I boarded my train she asked me if I would have any free time upon my return trip to Kiev and if so would I like her to show me her city. I told her that I was not sure and asked for her telephone number and said that I would call if it was possible. Well to make along story short. The woman I went to see near Luhansk was not right for me nor I for her. This was obvious to the two of us from the beginning. But, I continued to think about the woman I had met in the train station. (maybe this is why I am partial to travel by train TimH). So I returned to Kiev called Lena and spend several days with her in which she showed me around Kiev.
Since then I have been back to see Lena in September 2003, January 2004 (my 20 year old son accompanied me for a small portion of this trip), and most recently May, when Lena and I went to Cyprus.
I filled for a K1 visa in April and found the first NOA waiting for me when I returned home from Ukraine and Cyprus.
Is 3 1/2 years a long time? Maybe. I agree it is a bit longer than most guys take who do this. But, I do not find it unusual. I know very few people who meet a woman and propose to her after spending a couple of weeks with her. That, I find unusual. I often wonder why people who use this method of looking for a potential wife feel the need to rush into marriage.
So, there is a bit more of my story. Maybe this will quiet some of the evil things a few of you were thinking. ;-)
