It came to my attention while listening to the news on the radio this morning that our illustrious government, who were elected by the people to serve them, have announced that Anyone caught attending and joining in any "go slow" protests about rising fuel prices will be booked by the police and banned from driving !!!!!
I think L. Neil Smith following comment is just as apt.
Conservatives are accustomed to being called fascists and are well prepared to defend themselves on that ground. Liberals are used to being called socialists. Those labels can be switched, however, and remain valid and instructive. It also catches them completely unprepared.
Yo, Tim. Got an URL for that in regards to the banning? What I can find thus far is just banning drivers from certain areas, and not revoking licenses.
Spare us the political whinning.....
I seriously doubt any FSU woman or any western man interested in FSU women gives a rat's ass about your being banned from ...er....ahem....what the hell is it you're being banned from???...:)))
What a revolation, the elected government sux. I did read once in some american magazine, and the story was about the delicate balance of power with some royal family in one of those oil rich middle eastern countries, that counties like Austalia and other with similar high taxes on fuel were lucky. Why? because when fuel prices rise, these govenments can simply remove the tax to balance our daily living cost, unlike America, which has no tax cannot help there general population in this regard as they already have comparitable low fuel prices. What a load of f@$*en dogs bollocks. No such event here, just very exspencive fuel for all. Seems western governments are all the same, especially Australia and Brittian with our elected leaders being American lap dogs. No surpises here people but what has this to do with my close coming trip to ukraine to visit my sweety?
It's just that the fuel prices here went up too, though the price has stopped it's rising. So if you rent a car, you will have to think about such extra spending on that.
ID, you would be wrong. The U.S. DOES have an excise tax on gasoline. So do many states. It's just in Europe and some other countries that the tax is 4 to 8 times higher.
Your logic escapes me if you WANT high taxes on gasoline.
Yes they do Scott and I don't think they intend on taking off the tax in rough tmes either. When have any of you seen a government take away a tax once they have passed it as law.
"these govenments can simply remove the tax to balance our daily living cost,"
LMAO, Yeah, they can, BUT they DONT !!!
They just make even more money from the additional V.A.T on the amount the prices have gone up !!
"but what has this to do with my close coming trip to ukraine to visit my sweety?"
Increased fuel costs means higher prices for air tickets, and fuel subsidies, which wil be demanded at the airport the day you fly, with No prior warning and you either pay it and fly, or dont and go home !! Now do you see why this topic is relevant ? ;o)
1 litre of petrol costs between 17p and 20 per litre, we pay 84p per litre !! The 60 odd pence goes straight to the govrnment in the form of tax and VAT !!
"When have any of you seen a government take away a tax once they have passed it as law."
Never in my lifetime Man, you are bang on !!
" Actually, occasinally, they DO lower the TAX,"
Unfortunately in Britain they rake it back in some other way, so in the end we are no better off, and more otften than not, worse off !!
Not content with the high taxes on fuel, road fund tax goes up every time they have a budget, but the money isnt spent on improving the roads, its spent on installing speed cameras, which in their turn rake in even more revenue in the form of fines !!!
"In Britain the tax burden is greater because you are taxed twice on savings, taxed on the way in and taxed on the way out. This is more acutely felt by those on fixed incomes, e.g. pensioners. Many of these like to be independent of 'government' but anything they have saved out of a lifetime is taxed at the penal rate of 20%. Those who choose not to save are better off, they get a minimum income guarantee from the government, irrespective of national insurance contributions or anything else. Is it any wonder that the savings level in the UK has fallen from 10% of disposable income when Mr Blair came to power to a miserable 2% today,"
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!
Thats the problem, I have the solution !!
Blow Blair away !!!!
Did you know that they had to vote to change USA constitution to allow for Income Tax. That was 1913. And I heard that they waited to vote on it when most of congress was unavailable so it could be passed.
