Word to the wise for UK guys travelling to Russia (only).
I spent a whole day yesterday queing outside number 5 Kensington Palace gardens, with about 50 other applicants waiting to even get through the gate, about 10 people (public that is) got in because the priority was given to agencies doing block applications and we were just blown off without a single word !!
In the afternoon same story, the agency people got in, 6 members of the public got through, i wasted a whole day, £40 in petrol and £12 in parking and tubes and got No where !!
I was mighty pissed off I can tell you !! So much so I have vowed NEVER to go there again !!
I have found an agent in Edinburgh who will do it all for me, and mail it back to my hands in 3 days for £165 !! Now work that through a sec. thats £120 for the visa as its a fast needed one, £40 in petrol, £12 in parking and tubes total £172 !!! RussiaDirect will do it for £7 less and I dont have to drive there and back or lose a days work !!!
From now on, although until now I have always done my own, I will use this service, it makes much more sense when dealing with an Embassy that doesnt give a shit that you waited 5 hours and never got in !!!
One guy in the queue had been there all night !! And he didnt get in either !!!
I never had treatment like this at either the Ukraine or Uzbek embassies, but the London branch of the Russian consulate if deffinately crap !!
Apparently the Edinburgh one is brilliant and opens 9 to 5 5 days a week !!
The London one opens 9 to 12 and 3 to 4, excluding Wednesday !! Thats not a service !!!
you're welcome, mate.....you can always count on us to spend precious time from our own busy lives to read about your problems with FSU bureacracy, lol...:))
Now you see why I do not hesitate one minute to delegate things like this to an agency...
Did they give you any reason why they limit the amount of individuals on a daily basis?
I'm sure the agencies do not complain that Joe Blows get refused or limited entrance....after all, many of the processing agencies are owned and operated by FSU interests.
Russian consulate?? I never had anything to do with Russian consulate when I got a visa for my ex. Everthing was done by the Austalian consulate, nothing to do with Russia at all. Is there something different in UK proccess? I mean do you need Russian permission to get he a UK Visa?
O.K. I understand you are getting a travel Visa, ID myself on that one. Tim, I have never even tried to get it myself mostly because of the hassle, but also because it was acualy cheaper to deal though an agency. Sounds weird but it was about 30% cheaper to get it from this travel agent who booked flights and got inviation and Visa. Simple and cheaper. Maybe I should drink some coffee before I read after a hard days work LOL
At the Consular Section of the Russian Embassy in the UK website (www.rusemblon.org) you can customise and complete your application form on-line then print and post to the Consulate and receive your visa in around seven days. Or you can take your visa in person for the same day service (£95), if you arrive there at a reasonably early time you should have no problems; NB there are actually multiple queues for different purposes, e.g. Visas, Passports, Notary signatures, translations etc. If you're not sure you can always walk to the front of the queue and ring the buzzer and ask advice from the representative through the intercom.
Granted most of the general assisting staff do NOT have a comprehensive knowledge of the rules and policies of the Embassy etc and you should therefore do your homework via the comprehensive website before you go!
Comparing the prices between dealing directly with the Consulate and an Agency, there is no contest, also agencies will use Russian travel companies for organising invitations which may cause problems for you in Russia when you have to register your visa within three days of arriving in Russia.
A comparison of prices:
New* Prices: Russian Consular Service / Russian National Tourism Office (Agency) / Russia Direct (Agency)
Single entry visas:
7 days - £ 45 / £80 / £85
Same day - £ 95 / 2 days - £145 / 1 day - £145 (Same day - £199)
Double entry visas:
7 days - £ 55 / £90 / 10 days - £180 (5 days - £220)
Same day - £ 105 / 2 days - £155 / 2 days - £290
Multiple entry visas:
7 days - £ 110 / x / 21 days - £340
same day - £ 160 / x / 14 days - £400
The agencies are useful if you don't mind spending the money, but beware there is a drive to make profit out of you, even after you have arrived in Russia!
