I am considering going there, and would be very grateful to hear anything about your experiences with visas, customs, accomodations, cultural conficts, women that you may have met, agencies, interesting historical sites, or anything else. I searched the forum but not much came up. I have found a number of tourist-oriented internet sites, but I am hoping to hear about some first-hand experiences. Thanks for all replies. Uzbekistan is predominantly muslim country, so the lady you correspond with, is she Russian or Uzbek? is possibly a significant difference, re religion and other aspects or beliefs. I've been three times, spent altogether about 14 weeks there. Place is not crawling with great looking women, but many of my wifes friends were real beauties, but just didn't see many on the streets, but maybe because i was always there in winter. My wife is Russian, most people think the Russians are desperate to leave, but hard for me to comment as my wife comes from rich family so money has never really been an issue, ie I never had to send any. I visited Ukraine before and by comparison, I found the women less tainted in Uzbekistan by the MOB business than in Crimea where I visited in Ukraine, but saying that Ukraine is big place so.... you take that for what its worth. I spent all my time in Tashkent, its so cheap its ridiculous, if you do your homework its possible to have very cost effective trips there, what I mean is, invest before you go in getting to know a woman very very well, not just a few EMails, because there are not alot of agencies there from what I saw, so resorting to back up plan will not be so easy as say in Ukraine. I met some fantastic women there, contrary to what people say almost all were NOT interested in finding a foreign man, why? well they have prospects, is important to know the persons motivations for seeking a foreign man, they are there, just its a matter of finding the right one. Not many foreign men are visiting there, so women take it as a big sign of commitment if you go, you are not likely to be meeting a woman that has numerous foreign men visiting, in fact my wife introduced me to a lady that has her profile posted for 4 years, she is very nice, but never been visited, some are lucky some not I guess. I didn't go with agency, my first trip I paid 35 dollars a night for great apartment, next time 200 dollars the month, but i just put my trust in my then lady to arrange them. Visas are easy to get, depending which country you are from, got mine in UK, about 70 dollars for a month, but rules change often, can get application from internet, send it with passport to Embassy, all quick and easy. My impression of her thus far is about what you have said, that she is not so tainted by the MOB business. It was actually very cute, because we simultaneously sent initial letters to each other through the agency--literally within five minutes of each other. She seemed surprised when I brought up the idea of my visiting her, so again, I think that you are right that she sees it as a big commitment. She has offered to find me a flat. One question for you, did you feel safe in your apartment, both times? Were you worried about theft at all? I'm glad to hear that your marriage is successful. I heard that theft is a problem, mainly because people don't trust the banks, so alot of cash is kept by people in the home, ie local currency or dollars etc, so raiding an apartment can be worthwhile for the thief, saying that I never felt threatened, only time I got robbed was at an exchange where I didn't check how much they gave me, they took me for about 20 dollars! all part of the fun of being there really. Russian women can have very good reason for leaving, first because alot of the Russian men go to work in Russia, most Uzbek men take an Uzbek woman for marriage but then will keep a couple of girlfriends if they have alot of money, some do! this is a life chosen by some Russian women, they get the apartment and cah and then have their own other lovers. But your Russian woman who wants a serious one to one commitment will look for Russian man, or then may turn to seeking outside the country. If your lady is willing to help you find apartment is good, you don't need to pay in advance, you can usually see the owner the day you move in and if all is ok pay then, some may try to get the money in advance, but foreign customers are hard to find, so they will wait, naturally don't give all money up front, I give half, if all is working ok, hot water, TV, kitchen etc, then give the rest. Its possible to find apartments on the internet, but your lady will know which is better area to be in, for convenience of shopping, travel etc. But if you're thinking of going, really just go if you have a lady to meet with, Uzbekistan is a bit off the beaten track, but Tashkent is modern city, plenty to see, certainly was best choice I made.
