Here's another good Jefferson quote, and more in line with my concerns.
"In denying the right [the Supreme Court usurps] of exclusively explaining the Constitution, I go further than [others] do, if I understand rightly [this] quotation from the Federalist of an opinion that 'the judiciary is the last resort in relation to the other departments of the government, but not in relation to the rights of the parties to the compact under which the judiciary is derived.' If this opinion be sound, then indeed is our Constitution a complete felo de se [act of suicide]. For intending to establish three departments, coordinate and independent, that they might check and balance one another, it has given, according to this opinion, to one of them alone the right to prescribe rules for the government of the others, and to that one, too, which is unelected by and independent of the nation. For experience has already shown that the impeachment it has provided is not even a scare-crow . . . The Constitution on this hypothesis is a mere thing of wax in the hands of the judiciary, which they may twist and shape into any form they please."
Nas,
I could have saved you a lot of time and aggravation about this passionate issue on abortion if instead of going to spend the weekend with two kinky sisters (no, not the catholic nuns..:) I would have stayed around the puter to answer your posts...:)
Please let me remind you that I do not like abortion and I only support it as the lesser of two evils.
You're wrong about your assumptions about rich and poor regarding adoption. The vast majority of pending files for adoption are by middle class income families and current or former foster parents.
You sound responsible and I'm sure you feel quite righteous, as well when you claim that "if you do the act, you must take responsibility"....but the responsibility doesn't stop at giving birth. Raising a kid takes 18 years out of anyone's life.
And few want to do it anymore when they're saddled with an unwanted pregnancy.
Heck, 100s of 1000s of married parents don't even want to do it these days.
What I meant by my reference of rich and poor, was that no income class is any better at providing love and support than any other.
I mean in a more spiritual and loving way.
Also buddy it's not an issue of being righteous, and yes I understand raising kids I have a daughter that is 22 and you really don't stop raising them ever.
In my humble opionion the real evil that tears at the fabric of our society now is abortion. I know what you meant by the lesser of two evils, but perpetuating the evil of abortion leads us to more violent crime than haveing a unwanted child.
I am looking for a Russian lady to marry, anyone remember that topic? when did this turn into a free chat room or a place to air your opinion on abortion. Go march in the streets with your one eyed personal views. I am realy surprised to see this rubbish here. If no woman had abortion the world would be singing a happy song in harmonious glory. Please!! Someone put the gloves back on as this thread can only cause problems in an otherwise good place.
ID i agree with nasfan6 There is nothing wrong with this political tread (a bit over my head with the constitution stuff though) Further on several treads the original treat/tread/treath was lost.
The little argument of me vs nasfan and toad where a bit of fun. And it even taught me some although indirectly about (Russian) women. (i knew but in my idealism had forgotten)
Yes to stop people talking about it in other threads and losing direction, but that always happens so who cares, this thread is shit and irrelivant to this forum in general. Maybe I understand you intention but peoples personal views come into any thread when someone says something to spark a thought, thats the way it is.
Sorry for no posts lately I've been somewhat under the weather, can't figure it out and neither can my doctor, my only thought would be watching T.bone Heinz Kerry the other night, well hope it's only something simple as making the mistake of watching my first democrapic convention since 1983. Same old same old. I wonder if my physician can test for something like that???
Thanks Scott I appreciate reading different articles
I appreciate spirited debate with anyone, from my country to other countries, we all bring something to the table in the enrichment of one's attitudes and beliefs and finding from the common man what the real truth of one's country is and not what the media portrays in all our countries. I spent an interesting night in The New Florida club in Mombasa Kenya with some Russian sailors off a Krivak that was shadowing my ship. To steal a line from Kennedys speach at the American University, we all inhabit this small planet and my attitudes changed on the Russian people that night, we all share the same hopes dreams, joys, fears, triumphs and defeats no matter what country you live in. I am a staunch defender of liberty in all nations not just my own. I may be somewhat biased, but I think the birth of the American republic is extremely unique and now it is trying to be destroyed by many across my country and the world. One quote I have in my office at home is on a plaque, When you give up freedom for security you deserve neither. The American people have been brainwashed into believing we can't do anything to stop our government. Well it is our country and our government and we have the final say so.
Now to something which although US based is a bit more 'general':
A certain film has entered the presidental campaign - against the present president of USA.
The film won a prize in Cannes.
The film has been critisised for 'inexactitudes' (that's new-speek for lies).
Question:
Is it OK to take liberties with the truth if you think it furthers your cause?
NO, but that hardly ever stopped anyone when it came to politics and elections. Ethics and campaigns generally don't mix. That usually applies to holding the office as well.
The thread could - perhaps - also be used to discuss
Ethics-Religion-World View-Personal Integrity
in general. E. g. how honest does one have to be in letters to the girls? And how honest does one expect them to be?
Scott , Nas , no matter what anyone says this thread has been good for enlightening the "brain dead". Guys like ID and others dont understand the importance and uniqueness of Americas formation. I used to be like them when I first came to the US. It took me a while to realise that was going on here.
Also, this thread does have relevance in that any Russian or FSU woman interested in moving to the US should understand what kind of country she is about to move to and the issues at hand. IT will help her know about the kind of men she has to choose from. There is no country founded on the principles that America was founded on and it is very unlikely that anyone growing up in FSU countries will know this. They sure as hell don't teach it in schools in America so I dought if they do anywhere else.
Anyone interested in truth can get a "kick start" from the quotes mentioned here.
Actually, to a certain degree, Poland was the closest. It was still a feudal system, but the King had very limited powers. In fact, the king was elected.
No better proof than in the words of a Man who has lived somewhere else and came to the US. This is what bothers me sometimes with my
countrymen, they don't realize how lucky we are to live in this republic and they are willing to let it get away for false security.
Thanks for your words my friend, it gives me faith to stay the course and try to keep what was once sacred in our country. I have met a few immigrants to this country who believe in what this great nation was founded on, more than some of us born here. You are the kind of people that make up the American dream
