I live right on the beach and on the 14th floor of this high rise, we are suppose to leave at 6pm but you know, I wait till the morning nad then leave if the winds are over 110 mph 78km I have been through this it might be Saturday or Sunday till it gets here if it does and if you don't hear from me again I made the poor choice. It is getting butt ugly though I will say. They will most likely cut the power as a saftey concern. I'm about 12 foot above sea level so it looks like this is gonna be a close one. Spoty a few years ago but it lingered in the surf around the fishing pier. Had to pay a charter. I think it would be best if you move northward. No point to be the hero here. Save yourself first. You never know someone may see you leaving and decide to leave too.What do you have to lose other than life and a chance to meet one of the wonderful special ladies in the FSU. I am not feeling to good for crash in lee county thet got wacked, be a while before power is restored there, hope he was'n on the beach. I remember seeing the damage Andrew did to the Miami area roughly a year after it hit. The worst part of the storm (near the eye) was about 25 miles from my home. We experienced hurricane force winds here and unfortunatly many people weren't prepared. I seen alot of damage around here and I had a little myself. Luckily I didn't get it as bad as Punta Gorda but my power just came back on since the storm hit. Ive been living off my generator and I can tell you it was pretty hard just to find gas for the dam thing. But anyway, trying to get back to normal around here and I'm glad to be back. I sure do hope I never have to experience anything like that again. Yeah alot of old people live in mobbile homes Toad and I agree people should have more sense. But this storm cut a path 150 miles long across Fla and of the 20 billion dollars in losses, less than one half billion in losses were wobbley boxes. Many buildings with the new storm standards went down, the new Discount auto parts wharehouse that was all block and concrete no windows and up to new hurrican resistant standards was leveled like a cereal box. The eye wall produced a sustained wind of 145 mph with much stronger wind bursts in excess of 180 mph so this was a real storm.
