How long is the ride, miles and time? Also, do you know if my Russian visa is good for entry into the Chuvashia Republic? It's part of the Russian Federation. Another thing is....my lady friend says that Moscow is dangerous.....she says she doen't want to go there for the fear of getting "plundered", pickpocketed....what's your take guys? You need to register once you arrive, of course. Your lady may have not been to Moscow before. It is true that pickpockets abound, but I can say the same for any major city. My take on this is that unless you have been to Moscow before and feel comfortable there yourself and with taking care of her; then don't force the issue. Even then, if she doesn't want to go, then honor her wish. Again, my feeling is she hasn't been there before. Myself, I have never been there, but many I have spoken to say it is crowded all the time. Kind of sounds like New York City to me, and I have no problem with NYC. If you have a good grasp of Russian (read and speak), you probalby won't have many issues, other than the cultural ones. You can prepare yourself, but I think being there is the only way to be get a real handle on it. The train is about a 12hour ride at night (as your schedule shows). There are flights as well, if you wish to spend the extra money and reduce your travel time to about 3 hours (each way). I do want to meet with her in Moscow. I work for the airlines currently.....and Moscow is one of the few cities I have not visited. I'll aproach her meeting me in Moscow.....if that doesn't work I'll just go visit her in Cheboksary. If she makes excuses that it's cold, dreary or whatever.....then I'll know that she's just after the money. For what it's worth. She said, she was burned by an American last year. She spent money for her visa and plane fare to the USA, Los Angeles to be exact....the guy according to her never showed. She was led to believe once she was there, "he'd be footing the bill". Again, this is according to her. Then, she was stranded and had to be helped by the Russian Consulate to get home. I'm approaching this whole thing with skepticism. But this gal is such a "babe", I'm trying to see it through without getting my pockets tapped. But since I've joined this forum.....I've heard a lot stories that make me proceed with caution. Again, thanks for the info. Also, one last thing. Does anyone know if our letters sent to Russia at their home address.....addressed to them in ENGLISH get there? First time I ever heard of a russian woman being scammed by an american after SHE spent her money to obtain an impossible to obtain visa to enter the US (Keep in mind LA is the west coast nerve center for FSU mafia porno/prostitution industry, though) For years now, the only US visas FSU citizens may obtain on their own are student visas....and those are very hard to qualify for, as well. It should not be to hard for you to find a third party to verify her story or even her existence via agency or P.I. services. After being on the forum for a few days, I've learned just how hard it is for a Russian to get a visa.....especially, a lady who doesn't make squat! She's not a student anymore 'cuz she's already graduated from Cheboksary University. I hear that for them to get a visa, they need to show proof of employment.....they gotta have a good job! Right? Ask a scan of these? If she just 'lost' her passport you'll know you're going to be just a visitor only in Moscow but hey, also worthwhile suppose. Some say it takes a bit longer but I've never noticed, and letters arrive normally. Letters Greenhorn :) , packages containing anything of value you courier. A better soulution is to have her email you her address using Cyrillic then copy to something like the label program for MS Word and run a page of labels off. Just be sure to add the destination country at the bottom in English for your postal people. Put your return address in English but add the cyrillic symbols for USA at the bottom just in case there is a problem with delivery. I would also agree with toad and Thunder, something is definetly not right with her story. I find it strange for her to have the money to come to the U.S. unless he footed the bill and never showed up. Strange, but not impossible. Personally, the only thing you are out of right now is time, possibly the money to go there. I don't know if I would be willing to ruin a possible relationship with accusations until I know more and/or have met her. When she asks for money is when to be paranoid. Not wanting to go to Moscow is a good thing for certain reasons. Moscow is one of the most expensive places to tour around in Europe. There are some women that want you to take them to Moscow so they can go to all the expensive restuarants, etc. That is not to say that Cheboksary is a whirlwind of adventure, either. There IS an online site that has info about Cheboksary with pictures, etc. It IS in Russian! I don't have it available to me just this moment, but I can try to post it later. Then again Socal, the only reason why you want to meet in Moscow seems to be the fact that you've not been there yet. Travelling overnight per train to this big city from her town is maybe what she refers to as being dangerous, and hustlers/pickpocketers may well bother lone women travelling, they apparently do men sometimes. I basically told her that she could meet me in Moscow via train, or I could come to Cheboksary or even Kazan. Which is about 75 miles away from her. The money thing for travel is a no-brainer. I work for the airlines so I get get to London for nothing and fly London/Moscow round trip for about $200.00/$250.00. I just laid it out on the line for her. The way I figure is she has three options for us to see each other, so if she balks at all three then we all know she's in it for the money. Principles simple: 1, Be close and look behind the things. 2, do not drink alcoholic drinks in a train 3, Never exchange currency at station 4, at Night in a train close doors not only on the lock, there there is a special latch at the top of a door. Outside to open then it is impossible.5, do not take a taxi at stations and at the airports. The taxi there is more expensive in two or three times. If it is station pass one quarter aside and there the taxi will be much cheaper. 6, do not carry the large sums of money at itself. Store or in the safe in hotel or on a plastic card. These are key rules of behaviour. Be reasonable and all will be in the order. You nothing to be afraid, accept if your lady is gangster and want you to plunder )))) it's joke certainly. Actually, these are good rules to follow in any big city around the world. Anyhow, my mother told me I shouldn't talk to strangers.....lol! By the way, I got a letter back from my hottie in Cheboksary. I gave her 3 options, meet me Moscow, her home town Of Cheboksary or nearby in Kazan. She chose for me to come meet her in her hometown. So, in mid-February off I go to the Chuvashia Republic to meet with her. I told her if things went well between us, THEN, I could help with arrangements for her to come to the USA. She said, bring your warm close......so I will. I guess she doesn't know I lived in Chicago for many years, so I'm used to brutal winter weather. She does'nt have a phone, so I'm wondering, do they sell phone cards to the US?.....how much are they?
