I would like to know what American men looking for a Russian wife might think about such a movie.
Here is a preview:
"Every year thousands of young Russian women leave their homeland for America with a fiancee visa.
Every year thousands of Russian immigrants leave America and go back to their homeland.
These controversial facts made two Russian women-filmmakers pick up a camera and meet with various people in both countries looking to find answers and explanation to a few questions and one phenomenon.
What makes American men travel across the world looking for a wife in the depths of the former Evil Empire?
Are Russian women marrying their "foreign soul-mates" or the "financial stability"?
What makes immigrants leave their dream country and go back to their homeland?
Different countries, different voices, different faces, different opinions made ONE film that deals with serious personal and social issues in a light, entertaining manner."
The official site of the movie can be found here: http://www.flyovercountrymovie.com/index.php?section=2
Thanks for the link. It is not possible to say what I would think about such a movie without having seen it first.
However, after downloading the trailer from the site and watching that, it seems like the movie has a bias against marriages between Russian women and American men. This is not entirely surprising, since the movie seems to have been made by Russian women entrepreneurs.
If you go to the movie website and click on the gallery link, the caption for the first photo says that 1500 women leave the city of Tver every year to come to America on fiance visas. This is a sensationalistic statistic, but I have a hard time believing that it is accurate. I have been to Tver three times myself, and used all of the local agencies (including the one shown in the movie). I would guess that, per year, about 10-20 women from each agency get a fiance visa to America.
The trailer also seems to make it sound like Moscow is a great place to live now. I was not there 10 years ago, so I cannot compare, but today it is clearly a prosperous city. I saw plenty of brand-new black Mercedes driving around downtown. However, from what I observed in Moscow, the wealth is concentrated in the hands of very few while the vast majority of Moscow residents live in far less comfortable situations.
I'm not sure that the average Russian woman, with a university degree in English or economics, has very good prospects there. At least, the young, university-educated women that I met there were having a difficult time finding a decent job and lived in small apartments without any luxuries. They could certainly not afford a new BMW or a $100 dinner at a sushi restaurant on their $200/month salary. (From what I saw, salaries in Moscow tend to be higher than in smaller cities in Russia, but the cost of living is significantly higher as well.)
At any rate, I will look forward to seeing the entire movie and hopefully will then be able to form a more complete opinion.
I love the part in the trailer where there is graphic representation of what these women supposedly left behind depicted by a very beautiful and pristine picture of Red Square in Moscow - on a gorgeous day - and then a shot of a snow plow cleaning up after a heavy sowstorm on a dark dreary day in some impoverished neighborhood of a decrepid northern city in America.
No biasm there at all.
Moscow eidently doesn't get snow there are no poor areas.
the facts just do not support the movie, according to a poster on visajourney that spoke to the russian consulate, approx. 2000 K-1 visas were processed in Moscow were processed in 2004. I assume about 500 K-3 visa for Moscow so the entire province of the Russian is only about 2500. Of course, if we also include the adjoining countries of Ukr., Belarus, Estonia, etc., them the numbers would be well over 3K; I would like to see the movie but only if it is a factual account.
may be they are trying to gain some political benefits making such movie, or just decided to tune up public opinion more against USA ... bring a little bit of traffic from this forum. anyway, I am amazed how such people concentrate on bad things in everything. Russian, American, English, German... who cares... people use internet to meet each other, it is their own personal idea if they want to relocate or not. Movie makers do not realize probably that America is not the only country where Russian, FSU, French, German, Latin, Asian ladies relocate:) I know a lot of example when men move to FSU. have international businesses, live in Russia, everywhere, world is integrating somehow more and more. remember, 1234 posts, where he screamed that evil Russian mafia is behind all FSU women wanted to meet men on the internet. as ICE's post pointing, some reports say that it is an international mafia behind it, they traffic "poor" women who do not know where they go. My point is, do not separate Russian brides, from any other internet personals sites.
Be very interested to see this - how does one get to see it. Is it on Video or is it hitting the Big Screen soon..
As for "there is more than one hundred millionaires now in Moscow" that is so incorrect - I do not know how many, but there is MUCH more than that.
I have heard / read, that Moscow now has more Millionaires per Capita than any other city in the world ??????
Public Opinion against the United States. Hey isn't that something new? Damn I can't wait to see this movie now, we are such a wretched and deplorable nation, I can't understand now why we have an illegal immigration problem, that must be a lie also.
Well I'm getting ready to contact an attorney in Kiev to start my immigration process immediately!
Nas
I have been saying this for the longest time and still people do not recognise it. Annika's whole motivation for being here is to 'amuse' herself at our expense. She has a superior attitude that is typical of a large number of FSU women depending where they are from. Some places are worse than others.
Our mission, should we wish to accept it, is to amuse her. To entertain her.
As I have said before it is good that she is here because she gives a very good idea of what many FSU women are about. I have had the arrogant emails to prove it. Only yesterday I had a beauty.
What she fails to understand that this IS a boys club. Not too many FSU women marry other FSU women and that is what this forum is all about.
Frankly I do not need her input anymore (if I ever did). I can get all the input I need from many FSU women friends who have absolutely no interest in me other than as a friend.
So therefore her presence here baffles me. She has absolutely nothing to contribute other than her 'wit'.
I for one do not want to hear about her Brit boyfriend, listen to her try and mimic British slang, tell us how much he earns or belittle our attempts to find a loving woman. She needs to bugger off back to the womens forums where she belongs.
Keep out of the Boys Club if you don't like it. We really do not need you here you have made your contribution merely by being yourself. Bog off.
Damn Izi, say whats really on your mind LOL! I just like to bust her chops. Are for how much her Brit boyfriend earns it is really immaterial to me. For all we know she may not even have a boyfriend and be one of the disgruntled women from this adventure. I will agree, and it was the Russian women that early turned me off, their arrogance, and God only knows why they are that way, turned me off completely. It just wasn't one or two, it was about 70% of them. Now I am a bit biased but I find Ukrainian women to be more decent and approachable in my experience. So before you ladies of Russian ancestry start hammering on me, that is from my personal point of view and experience and not the views of many guys here.
Hey Annika, just for fun since your Boyfriend makes so much more money than me, maybe we should take tens paces turn around drop our pants and show our investment accounts. It's not how much money you make, it's what you do with the money you make. Foolish girl!
She isn't Russian Nas she is Estonian or one of the Baltic states. Same difference. They particularly think the sun shines out of their you know whats. The Russians are ok except from Moscow and St Petersburg.
