I am very interested in all informations on Moldova, as I have a girl friend there and want to visit her around the orthodoxy christmas days (~ the beginning of Jan.). It is very hard to find usefull informations on prices (of accommodations) in general, or to find informations on how the customs really works (e.g. the declaration of electronic equipement [~laptop, digicam, ...]. I intend to go via railways or maybe bus to Chisinau. The only information I could find, was about the visa and the import and export of money. Do the take Euro's there or are the still fixed on USD? I have a lot of knowledge in travelling to Russia, Belarussia and Romania, but non for Moldova and the Ukraine. Maybe you could give me some advice? The 3 digit airport code for Chisinau is "KIV". You can get your visa at the airport in Chisinau for about $60. I would suggest you bring dollars and Moldavian Lei. If you need an apartment or need to send flowers you can contact Svetlana and/or Aliona at starservice555@yahoo.com They have helped me alot and are very fair. When I stayed there I have a wonderful 2 bedroom apartment for $65 a night. I still use them to send flowers to my fiance. Worldtraveller Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 11/8/2005 1:12:59 PM   gemach, i wouldnīt recommend to go to moldova in wintertime with bus/train. it is cheaper but quite uncomfortable. yes, flights from frankfurt with airmoldova. costs actually eur 280,- + taxes. electronic equipment has to be declared in airport. there are documents available for this act. you donīt need dollars in moldova. the euro has the same (at least) importance than the dollar. no any problem to handle with the euro. exchange euros in lei in moldova, as foreign banks seldom have this exotic currency. exchange rates are mostly more bad in airport. if you really decide to go with bus, visa is available on the border to iasi and leuseni/albitza. accomodation can be managed for a single room with appr. eur 25,- - 30,-. double room from 30-45 eur. your name and email adress sounds german. if so, we can handle it in german language. wt mikeisready Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 11/8/2005 1:23:23 PM   Start learning Russian. I bought some CDs and play them over and over in my car for a couple months before I went. It proved helpful - I know how to say please, thank you, where is the toilet ?, where is the currency exchange bureau, the airport .. and many other things .. Your girl will appreciate you taking interest in her language, also ! I went alone, but was picked up at the airport by Aliona and my girl, Svetlana. I enjoyed the food there VERY much and the music on the radio is awesome. The vodka is great and so is their beer. The restaurants are good, too. Excellent service. Chisinau is a huge city. Try to always be with someone who knows the city and the language. And, keep your eyes open - drivers are crazy !! -Mike jetmba.
