Although I have been to the Ukraine many times in the past I have been using the same interpreter for the last 2 1/2 years. She worked for me in the city of Kharkov and her rate was $5 per hour. When I used AFA interpreters in Yalta during the summer of 2003 the rate was $5 per hour. In Kiev it was more at $7 per hour. The big city rate I guess. Anyway I have been told by my interpreter that the rates are up everywhere. I'm told Kiev is $10 per hour and most of the agencies in Odessa and Nikolaev are asking for $10 per hour. So, for those of you who have used interpreters during the last 6 months I'm asking you what has been your experience. $10 per hour in Kiev sounds normal but $10 per hour in these smaller towns seems a bit high to me. The interpreter was hired by my lady for the family dinner, I had no contact until the night of the gathering. Since Ternopol is not high on the list for foreign visitors I would think that $10 per hour would not be out of line for the cities you listed as they are focal points for the marriage industry. Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 2/6/2006 12:24:28 AM   Gentlemen: I point out again that a great way to save this $7 to $10 an hour (the range that was mentioned above) is to find a lady that speaks ENGLISH. It is not hard to do and there are TONS of them in the FSU. Though it decreases the pool of available wmen for you - it doesn't decrease it much (and all you really ultimately want to end up with is one, more than likely anyway, right?) I just spent two week sin Moldova with my lady again and she was with me all but One hour. I needed no interpreter with her or anyone esle as she was very able to do it. I shudder to think of what I would have had to pay at even $7 per hour for the same service. If I went "shopping" with her a time or two (which of course I did) I assure you that the savings I realized from not needing an interpreter MORE THAN MADE UP FOR the bag, perfume and other things I bought for her! In other cities of Ukraine it is around 8 us dollars. Now 1 hour of interpreting in Kiev costs between 10 USD up to 25 USD. For the most expencive price you are supposed to get a experienced professional, with Master's degree, likely with car (although fuel might be paid additionaly), Certificated (C1 or C2 level). Working day rate varies between 100 USD to 250 USD. It depends also if you are demanding an interpreter with car, if you have Business meetings or just meet friends and relatives of your fiancee, or just traveling with group and need one guide for all of you. City tour would cost 80-200 USD (depends on the size of the group therefor size of the bus). Most of the guys that use this forum who use an interpreter usually have one supplied by the agency. This is another part of the money making process of such agencies. And to be sure, I doubt that these 'interpreters' are certified by any accrediting agency. They are usually young women who have a good handle on english - usually pretty good. But for the most part these young girls get a small cut and the agency gets a cut. Certainly there are bona fide intrepreting services. And a simple search on the internet will find them. Many of the guys who are doing this want to get through it dirt cheap. But I offer that having a true guide and interpreter could work in a guys favor. That is if he just goes there and does not have prearranged meetings with a bunch of agency girls. For someone who is serious about meeting a woman from Ukraine I think just going there first - before you fall in love with a photo - is a good idea. ragingbull Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 6/20/2011 11:11:44 AM   Isn't such a thing as supply and demand in Ukraine? Surely, the recession hit there too. If people need employment, why do rates go up 250%? I spent a week once with a woman who spoke probably about a dozen English words, total the whole time. For instance if you just need them during your walk in the downtown it could be free. If you need them in a night club you would probably need to pay for them. Those guys just want to practiñe their English. They speak good. PM me so that I would give you their contact. P.S. Take into account that there are males and females and the last are not going to date with you. So please be reasonable and if you happen to think of trying them as dating objects it will not work. They usually assist in translating business negotiations, but, of course can help during personal visits. No translating under the bed or cover. Guide service may be cheaper than Interpreters, as simultaneous translation is obviously more difficult and needs more qualification. Kiev is a huge city. Of course you may find Free city tours, or students who will guide you around for free. Especially during summer time many of them will be happy to practice there skills with foreign tourists. Some of them might be very good and helpfull, but some will be learning english from you but not assisting and providing usefull help. Looking for a wife you can find english speaking lady as well, but unfortunatly not everyone speaks english in our country yet, and it may happen that the one you liked doesn't speak your language. You may also want independent Interpreter not to be scammed by the dating girl and Interpreter from the same dating agency. But scam is different topic. Let's not start it here. We always have a choice and our decisions are being made up to out desires and budgets. I beleive everyone will find what he is looking for. And wish you all to have a good time in Ukraine! Teddyfromwa Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 6/29/2011 10:05:09 PM   The way I look at it now is if I am going to fly to the other side of the world dealing with flight layovers, time from work, and the expense from th trip..... if I am doing all that.... than the lady can meet me 10% of the way..... and learn 30-40 words in English..... which I believe would be sufficient to making it work. Some might argue that you really won't know her on a mental level..... but this way she is talking directly too me..... without an interpreter paraphrasing things and using different tones of voice.... plus what is the interpreter's real motivation?..... My guess is they will say what they need to to keep the dates going and the money to keep flowing in..... but also keep the dates at a distance enough to where there is no alone time..... without her $20 an hour. It's not about the money.... $20 an hour is not a big deal.... it's the principle that you are getting ripped off.... and that for the free food at expensive restaurants they would do it for $2 an hour..... and not $20 an hour. When I was in Mariupol the interpreter had more fun than anyone.... she got to go bowling, ice skating, nice restaurants, and free drinks. So your example is not appropriate Armin (Bonddd). I do not consider students to be a bad option. Especially for guys who pay thousands for air tickets and living here every year but say they do not want to buy flowers to their girlfriends because it is expensive. Just read through the forum. If you don't mind I'll give you few remarks from the Interpreter's side. PS: this is not so important for those who are looking for FREE guides. But more for those who are still going to spend their money on such service earlier or later and who cares what they pay for. I've been working as an interpreter and guide for the Interpreters agency since 2009. I must say that some specifics of the agencies work were absolutely incorrect and unfair. First of all disparate rates. How come it can be 60$-70$ for ariport transfer inside the city of Kiev if normal price for taxi would be 6-8$? Ok, taxi is not = "personal airport transfer and meeting". But still not 10 times difference! Once I've met a client at Kiev-Zhuliany Airport. When we arrived to the bus station which was 20 mins away from the airport including traffic jam and he had to pay his 60$ I felt ashamed, really. If I were him I would definetly ask is that all for my 60$ ??? Second thing. Why the agency gets 50% of the order price if the interpreter spends dozen of hours and efforts and agency manager doesn't. Next. This I've heared from the gf of my client. At one of the dates with foreing man, the interpreter from the dating agency suggested this mentioned "dating girl" at the end of the meeting to ask the man give her 20$ for taxi. Saying to the girl that it's ok and normal doing like this anyway. The girl didn't like the man and knew she will not meet him anymore, but she is honest and genuine person, and she refused doing that. I think such interpreters must go home and get fired. That's why feed back from the clients is important, but for example in this case not each client can know taxi rates in Ukraine to discover that he is scammed. So it is important if the agency selects and controles the quality of service provided... "Eating, drinking, haning out" for your money interpreters. I would suggest you to fix the cost of food and drinks for interpreter during a day working for you. Of course if you like expencive restaurants , even water for your interpreter will also cost more. But anyway if it makes you worry fix the amount and it will fix the problem. All these concerns and issues made me think seriously about changing things. That's why I've started my own business in this sphere since spring 2011. It is in work though still in the process of developing, but I can be sure about professionals selected by me and 2 other europian managers. And some of the girls mention "dating sites job" in their resume in the block "Experience". Moreover recently I've personally got an email from one dating site with exect rates for those who will "play the game" on dating site.
