Thought it would help with customs, direction, and etc. Could anyone give me their advice or opinion. Good or bad! Seems a resonable price for the abilities. Is it a dictionary or so called electronic translator? Electronic translator translates sentences, preserving grammar structure of the sentence.Those can be really helpful. As far as I know from some people who used those dictionaries-its fun and some help, but dont count too much on it-it will help to explain what you want or name things, but its useless for discussion, you cant and translate every word each time you want to say something ;-))) But it helps a little bit ;-)) Jerome Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 5/29/2003 2:11:58 PM   There are handheld translators with good software/translating capabilities similar to the ones you find online, or with translation software...I think they can be found at etaco, or systran... search on internet...my friend has one I think called Gold Partner V6...something...it says it works very well...it is not perfect...Oh it costs around $400.00...... you can translate from Russian to English or vice versa gryphon Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 5/29/2003 8:48:45 PM   thanks I'll check into the translators! They sent me two, one I paid for and the second one was a free one (buy one get one free) the first one didnt work at all, the second one translated 2 words then died too !! That was 2.5 years ago and I wouldnt touch this company with a barge pole !! mainly because it then took them 3 months to refund me, and they tried to insist that even though they have an office in London, that I post the faulty goods to the US. I told them to get stuffed, I had no intention of paying their transatlantic mail costs for them, considering the goods wer their faulty goods !! I just told them I had alreday sent them to the London address, that was within 1 week of poasting them, they had been recieved and signed for, but it took countless more emails and phone calls to get my money back !! Yes Scott, they may be the prominent one, but unless you have money to burn, dont bother !! The goods when they arrived were flimsy plastic and in bad shape even before I tried to use them !! PaulM Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 5/7/2004 5:09:24 PM   Scott I used an Ectaco EFR 30, it translates words, not always accurate, ie you punch in the word and it gives you sometimes 3 or 4 alternatives, other times just the one. The voice thing sounds wierd and I didn't find it helpful. It was good for spending time with my lady, I know the technology is flawed, but as an ice breaker, and helping with odd words when talking it was ok, by best recommendation would be that it was alot of fun, my lady liked it,we had plenty of laughs with it, its not to be taken too seriously, but it was worth the 150 bucks I paid for it. Maybe if you pay more money you'll get better, but depends how much you expect to use it. It is Lingvo 8.0 and there is Lingvo 9.0. It have a lot of words, and vocabulries on different topics, it actually costs not very much. And as for electronic translators...as I already said they are good for only intial translation then you have to sit and correct everything, but it saves time for typing:) I use the Language Master, it translates from 3 and to 3 languages (Russian, Ukrainian, English). Unless you know about these nuances, the leave these electronic nightmares alone !!
