I am thinking in meeting a woman in Ukraine (West Ukraine, Khmelnitskiy) ...
I would lke to know the salary in Ukraine per month. The woman told me she earn les than 100$ (around 70$, she works in a hospital). Is it that low in Ukraine?
What about food and other necessity? Does this means it is much cheaper in Ukraine. I have seen the proce of the mobile phones in Ukraine ... http://www.kyivstarshop.net/telephones/nokia/page ... and I have the feeling it is nearly the same price as in France!
I was talking to a girl in moldova about this same subject. I don't know average but could be around
$250 per month. Could be less in ukraine for some jobs. It seems most people are willing to spend all their money on certain things, cell phones are very high on list along with entertainment. There is usually never an expense for rent/house payment. The cell phones cost about 40% more than here in US. In fact girl asked me about buying phones in US and shipping them to moldova and make some $$$$. There ARE some capitalists in FSU!!!!
When I flew out of Kiev in December of 2006 there was a Kiev newspaper offered to me in English. In it was an article about joining the European Union and raising the minimum salary in Ukraine from low 400 Hrevna's to High 400 Hrevna's over a period of time. Do not remember if it was one year, two years, five years or what. But the main point being that 500 Hrevnas is equal to approximately 100 US dollars.
Food prices are probably a little cheaper than the US but I did not really compare them, just bought what I wanted. Utility prices for a flat can run close as much as the salary. I am sure there are higher paying jobs there also.
The marriage agencies try to make you believe that a doctor hardly makes any money but anybody needing medical attention there will tell you if you do not pay high bribes to the doctor you do not get treated. And in a discussion once about American visas it came out from the Ukrainian participants that only a doctor or lawyer could afford to pay for the program of their children. It does not all fit together but hey that is just Ukraine.
But to try to sort the truth out of all of the propaganda I think there is a big percentage of the population that makes less than 120 dollars per month.
How do they do it. A huge part of their salary is spent on food. There also needs to be more than one wage earner per apartment even up to 3 generations. They do not eat out and probably do not eat a lot of meat. They may only have two or three changes of clothes. They reuse the bag the groceries come in. They make every kopeck count.
Land...when you are in Ukraine did you ever notice how packed many of the restaurants are???? Or noticed some of the cell phones the girls are using??? Based on their incomes...2+2 does not equal 4
Yes I did. We could not even get into the pizza place one evening and many of the ladies have two cell phones and they were probably 250 to 300 dollar phones there. There are definitely people there that have money and I was trying to think how many restaurants were there. It seemed like quite a few but I do not know if as many as a city in the US of 1.4 million would have.
And if you look at minimum wage her is less than 240 dollars a week but there is a tall range above that in the salaries. And I learned a long time ago that if you see it with your own eyes do not believe what you read. Another factor may be that much of the trade is done with cash and it may not be registered with the government so their figures could be way off.
the place is loaded with $ but the country is so called poor,, i have to admit the two cellphone thing really made me think what the fack!!
i left that country more confused then i was when i first arrived.
looking at that world i thought the women defiantly worked hard,, the men, well i don't think i would employ to many,,, they are like watching grass grow.. not all but
fuel is very expensive but guys just drive around for no apparent reason using expensive fuel.
restaurants were just as confusing,, some were expensive i thought,, then others were so cheap i couldn't understand how they could make a dollar.
food was not cheap in their supermarkets comparing to there average wage,,
i wouldn't say it was cheap for me, prices were relative to my country really.
niceguy i just don't know how they do it,, i really got the feeling i wasn't seen the full picture, the people don't really say much,, they are not so open to questions like New Zealand so I'm thinking there's not much tax payed there..
this world runs on backhanders in a big way, i have a feeling it runs all the way down to the common wage..
the average wage i seemed to get when i asked was 200-210 month, working two jobs,, saying this some people were on a good salary but they were involved with western tourist trade.
nurses teachers are very low salaries.
different Ukraine's told me shocking storeys of millions thieved from companys and bank accounts, most of it you could say was stolen from the dead,, so it seems people there don't mind how they get it,, as long as they got it.
i had to laugh at times for when you sit there with a cold one and watch the world go by
you have to laugh,,the infer-structure,, for really the place shouldn't work as good as it dose and you have to give them credit for it..
you're a NewGuy? If so here's my 2C's.
Irrespective of where the woman you've found lives - she lives! That means she did manage before your 'arrival', and will keep on doing so without a cent from your side. HOW she manages that is for you to find out, but again - without any financial aid from you.
You'll be surprised how low for instance a doctor's wage is in that part of the world, and having a double job is not uncommon at all. They make ends meet, in a way we probably would not want to.
So, you should find out about her, and herein lies the trick. NiceGirls don't talk about money, let alone complain. You better mind that 1-liner advice from Oz, an asker or hinter is a no-no.
Average salary? Lots lower than where you live - but there you also don't know what it is. No minimum wages there, beggars can't be choosers.
So as an aside, why don't you believe her? Trust her it's low, and do NOT sent any money - this way you cannot loose. If you go and meet her, and she drives a Hummer then you may reconsider :))

My girlfriend here in NZ comes from Khmelnitskiy. She was telling me that when she was working in Ukraine about 4 years ago, as a preschool teacher, she was earning less than $50 a month. This amount of money was not possible to live on, but she did get many gifts from parents for special days like Womans Day, Christmas etc, she said theres about 10 of these days during the year. To earn more money, she baby sat childern after school and on weekends, some of the children virtually lived with her.
Even so, it was still not possible to live on this, and she was saying that many families had members working in Europe and they would send money back home, especially the women would work in another country and the husbands stayed at home looking after the children. I can hardly believe this, but she was working in Poland for a short time while her husband stayed in Ukraine with their son. So maybe she was talking of her own experience.
She did reckon that so many women have left Khmelnitskiy to work in Europe, that now there are less women in the that city than men. Doesnt that blow some myths out of the water?
To be more clear > I told I was intending to come (to her city or to kiev) and told if she wants to come to kiev, she pays the ticket and I'll pay her back when I see her (for me it doesn't change excepte that I'll spend with her half a journey more with her). It is at this moment that she mentioned the salary. She never mentioned money and nor her salary. She gave me her phone nomber but not sure it true what she said (but as we say, inocent till proven guilty). She speaks good English and would really like to meet her.
kiwinorth > You just answered my "hidden" question (indirctly but clearly)
Thunderdome > She never complained and she seems happy ... as I said, the salary subject came when I told the she pay and I pay her back when I come ... that's all ... I am finding a way to send her the ticket instead of sending the money
ADMINITRATORS > I have sent and email to the admin of fiance.com and still haven't got a reply (you can check who I am by checking the email address related to my pseudo here ... it is the same used when I sent you the mail regarding my request for the flight ticket)
Adman > you too answered my hidden question. please if you don't mind helping me ... and your girlfriend ... I would like to know if I can your email address I just don't to put on the website
(I wonder if the administrators can help us to exchange out email address ... dear Administrator, can you give my email address to Adman please?)
Adman > you too answered my hidden question. please if you don't mind helping me ... and your girlfriend ... I would like to know if I can have your email address. I just don't want to put on the website

I can tell you that it is, the Ukraine way, that a man financially supports the lady. Before you, whoever you are, met her then she either had another man financially supporting her, she is the type that makes her own clothes etc. or she makes enough money to look after herself.
Mentioned previously in this thread was the low wage, by our standards, of doctors, but this is Ukraine and the doctors can earn a fortune in 'bribes', if that's the right word!
I should know, 3 years ago my then ex girlfriend, now wife, was in hospital and I dumped another lady to hotfoot it across Ukraine to look after her. Basically, if you want normal treatment then it costs 'this much' but if you want a good job then it costs 'X amount', I happily paid the doctor's 'X amount' and just think how many operations he might be doing in a day, many of them at 'X amounts'! Doctors can live VERY well.
strangely Martian i saw guys guarding there so called girlfriends at least sometimes a hour before end of girls work,, i wonder if its more the Lady's who made the $ and fella gets free petrol apartment and what ever,,
other instances i noticed possible boyfriends with crappy little stores selling nothing but guys junk stuff at the foot of his lady's shop but you could see he really was watching his lady,, she was doing very very well ,,it seemed to me he was guarding his cash cow sort of speak,,
whats interesting some of these women didn't mind getting my phone number but totally ignore me when these guys turned up,, then they gave discrete smiles when they could..
i can read jealous guys from a thousand miles,
i don't believe a lot of men there can financially support my beer habit here let alone a women in Ukraine,,
but hey its how i saw it..
I know of one 27 year old lady who works as an administrator for a college and pulls in $4 to $5 per day, thats $20 to $25 per week - around $90 to $115 per month. And that was consider to be a GOOD job.
Food IS very comparable to prices in the US.
But they don't make $1,000 mortgage payments, or $300 per month car payments - because they either already OWN an apartment (having been passed down by relatives) or live with their parents. Few own cars.
Utilites, clothing and food are by far the biggest expenses. Most families (especialy in Moldova) have a friend or relative working (and likely illegal) overseas - sending home mony - its a fact. Many other women have boyfriends who do the same.
Especially in Moldova - I knew of MANY situation where a guy would buy a car - and then spend much of his time as a PRIVATE TAXI DRIVER (they are the ones with no painted sign) collecting whatever money he could to pay for it and the fuel it consumed. These guys would work full time and then hang out at night, all night, looking for rides to pick up.
