I know the truth now. ragingbull Member send PM   block PM add to buddies Send: 1/24/2009 6:26:54 PM   I looked at the customs website before I went to Ukraine the first time in November 2007. http://www.customs.gov.ua/dmsu/control/en/index I do remember seeing something about being taxed for over 200 euros for gifts or for resale items. My gifts were slightly over that, so I separated the boxes and instructions off and went to Ukraine as if these gifts were my personal items. The customs lady asked me how much in goods was I taking to Ukraine. I told her $200 USD. At that time I wasn't sure whether it was euros or dollars they were looking for. She had a shocked look on her face, but I guess she didn't want to give me a hard time, so she let me go. I don't remember looking at that website the second time I went to Ukraine in February 2008. Again, my gifts were slightly over. This time, nothing was asked from me. They simply x-rayed my baggages and let me go. Again, this past November, they just x-rayed my bags and let me go. I have sent many packages to Ukraine, never near the 200 euros. I have sent books, a talking doll, digital camera, perfume. There were times when the packages were opened, but nothing was ever taken. No tax was ever paid. I don't see that tax on the website anymore. I do wonder if it's still on or was abolished. Suppose I meet my girl overseas and I give her a camera, or a computer or any electronic gear. What happens when she gets back to Kiev? Does she pay duty on these personal items? What if, say, the computer was second hand -- an old laptop? This is why I separated my gifts from their boxes and got rid of the instructions. Again, I don't know if this taxing is still in effect. At least that site has a phone number to call to ask. Like I posted, info on the import tax used to be there, but now it isn't. So maybe perhaps, there is no longer a tax.
