For parcels under what conditions does Customs want import tax from the receiver?
I read if the parcel is 2 kg(4.4 pounds) or less and the values is under $100
I also read if you check the checkbox for GIFT on the USPS customs form they will require the reciever to pay tariff
olya has told me that if the parcel is worth less than 200 euros and sent via 'normal' post then customs will not require any import tax. otherwise they will ask for 50%. she got caught out the other month after ordering some clothes from the internet (using ups) so did some research! afaik the value must be stated and writing 'gift' or otherwise makes no difference, if i wrong i'm sure someone will correct me! we'll be ordering some more clothes sometime soon so i'd like to know for sure what the rules are too! if using 'normal' post expect to wait up to 2 months for delivery. /pete
yep, agreed. from now on we'll just assume we'll have to pay 50% extra! i have a few things still in the uk that i want my brother to send to me, nothing of any real value, i wonder if they will charge me anything for these things? and how would they know for sure what was inside anyway? /pete
I sent a box with gifts to Mariupol the last week. The ammount is 300€ of presents. If my girl don't receive my box i don't send in the future more things.
Juengasa....good chance she will not get them and if she does you'll have to send her 150 euros to pay the tax to receive box. Maybe it was cheaper to fly there and just deliver them yourself.
I hope you've enclosed the receipts else Ukraine customs might value them at perhaps EUR1,000 and add 'their' applicable taxes/bribes before they will release them.
"I'm not dull, I'll give your skull!" is that how your paying for your partner? Now I get it, the pics are of the girl who ripped you off, Now I understand the "partner". In the states Partners are gays.
Hi, i only want tell you that my girl and his family has received today the presents sent it the last week. She is very happy and i'm more happy too.
thanks¡
John.
Improved your avatar again Danny? what a homo you are. Put a quarter in his mouth and his teeth fold back. The guys in Kazan must be standing in line. And you said you were living off your partner. I know the truth now.
I looked at the customs website before I went to Ukraine the first time in November 2007.
http://www.customs.gov.ua/dmsu/control/en/index
I do remember seeing something about being taxed for over 200 euros for gifts or for resale items. My gifts were slightly over that, so I separated the boxes and instructions off and went to Ukraine as if these gifts were my personal items.
The customs lady asked me how much in goods was I taking to Ukraine. I told her $200 USD. At that time I wasn't sure whether it was euros or dollars they were looking for. She had a shocked look on her face, but I guess she didn't want to give me a hard time, so she let me go.
I don't remember looking at that website the second time I went to Ukraine in February 2008. Again, my gifts were slightly over. This time, nothing was asked from me. They simply x-rayed my baggages and let me go. Again, this past November, they just x-rayed my bags and let me go.
I have sent many packages to Ukraine, never near the 200 euros. I have sent books, a talking doll, digital camera, perfume. There were times when the packages were opened, but nothing was ever taken. No tax was ever paid.
I don't see that tax on the website anymore. I do wonder if it's still on or was abolished. Perhaps it's in a corner of the website that I have not looked at.
Just a small side question. Suppose I meet my girl overseas and I give her a camera, or a computer or any electronic gear. What happens when she gets back to Kiev? Does she pay duty on these personal items? What if, say, the computer was second hand -- an old laptop? Cheers
Chris, I believe they are not taxing personal items. They are taxing gifts and items for resale. This is why I separated my gifts from their boxes and got rid of the instructions. Again, I don't know if this taxing is still in effect. Someone should go to that website I posted up above and call them and come back here and tell us.
Hey RB...next time you are in ukraine..tell the customs oficial you have gifts with value more than $200usd...we'll see what happens next, huh?
I do know the limits in value of gifts and cash to be brought in without import tax......will definately have to fill in customs forms....
Also RB...your site......http://www.customs.gov.ua/dmsu/control/en/index
what was purpose of you giving it to us??? I saw nothing there worth reading.....
I am not going to do that, beemer. I don't want to pay if there is one. At least that site has a phone number to call to ask. Like I posted, info on the import tax used to be there, but now it isn't. So maybe perhaps, there is no longer a tax.
