I wouldn't call this a scam, but it's certainly a gray area. I wonder how often this happens. I just see it fit to warn you guys.
As many of you know, websites such as fiance.com, rwglobe.com, and army-of-brides.com contract with the local agency of our ladies. Most of us pay $5-7 per letter. Some of you call that a scam, but I do not because that is the price they set and it's up to us to pay it or not.
My girl's cell phone was busted. I could not call her. I decided to send her money for that because for one thing, I was about to go visit her. Before I left, I again sent her money for a train ticket and accomodations in Kiev.
Later on, she told me that in each case I sent money, her agency decided to take 10%. The second time, an agency representative went with her to the bank, so it can be determined the agency's "proper" percentage.
I believe this practice should be disclosed to the sender. I do not call this a scam because the agency has formed a friendship with my girl and she agreed to it. It was no longer my money, and my girl decided to give it. I did use Moneygram where they give a number code to retrieve the money. This code did go through the agency and the website.
I use Western Union.. and there is no agency for anything.. I sent money to my fiancee to Zaporozhye... no problems.. and if you can use Western Union.. then use it.
Thanks, by the way, andres. I now use Washington Mutual. They offer free wire transfers. I did look at Western Union and it was just a little more expensive than Moneygram. Furthermore, Moneygram has an office in every block in Kiev and Yalta, which is where I was. Moneygram is simple and it is in Walmart. They charge less than $10.
yes - Western Union works perfectly. I have used it for long time. After 3 times you have to get a post mail confirmation from them to use your account further. Set it up on internet - call them to confirm - and send your fiance a sms with the control number you get and the amount. Takes only a few ours before she get them in her nearest bank.
I think the point being made was that communications were being made via an agency for translation etc. Whether it be Moneygram or WU the transfer number was being sent via the agency, they would know about it, and they wanted their cut from it.
Interesting...you say your girl, and I would assume that when you're saying that then she is your girlfriend?
Question:- why does she have anything at all to do with the agency now?
As far as I'm concerned; the agency taking any percentage of money sent to a girl is a complete scam.
When she became your girl, she should be exclusive to you surely.
What does the agency have to do with anything now?
I noticed you mentioned before that your girl is in Kerch?
Kerch is a big town but it's pretty remote so there is a good chance that the agency you used is the only one there.
I'd be interested to know which agency that is.
If it's the same one I used, I can give you the low down on how they operate.
Send me a pm and we can compare notes.
its all about making some extra money for the agency. if she gets her phone fixed you can just text her. I had a local agency get a little bent out of shape when I told them I didnt need the interpreter they wanted me to use. I didnt even meet the lady thru the agency.
Bowhunter is on the right track. Don't use agencys period. Nothing the agency provides you can't do yourself. You can find a language student in kiev willing to translate at 5 dollars an hour. Many locales have people willing to translate for the same. It's just a matter of research. Also getting the lady to remove herself from the influence of the agency.
Nothing the agency provides is in your best interest. The girls are nothing but a commodity to them.
Ragin Bull is a little incorrect on army of brides. It is an agency in itself. The owner operates many out of Mariupol Ukraine. The listed below are all the sites operated by Oleg Sedyshev.
Mariupol is my home port and something I do know about.
They also have a penchant for stealing girls photos from other sights and creating their own profiles.

For those of us who are in the states or outside of Ukraine, the agency is our only alternative. Yes, she is now canceling her agency membership. Yes, Martin. My point is anything you send your girl that you mention in your letter is in danger of getting a percentage cut from the agency.
I did use an agency for the flat I rented in Sumy. I also used an interpreter from the same agency for 5 an hour. another agency wanted me to pay 15 an hour. because a lady I was spending time with was one of there members they seemed to think I had to use them. the interpreter I used wound up not charging me for some of the time I used her. I found it was easier to use her when I needed to find what I wanted or needed.
RB, I think you are being carted to places you never imagined existed. At the end of the day you sent money, you feel you have been skimmed for 10%, I suspect you have been skimmed for 100% but you haven’t realised that yet.
"My point is anything you send your girl that you mention in your letter is in danger of getting a percentage cut from the agency."
I don't if this happens everywhere, first I have ever heard of this. Just plain greediness, if your girl approved this makes you wonder what is really going on. Agencies should be used up until a meeting and only for translations. In first meeting, if girl feels comfortable and it is needed, I'll use girls interpreter....that should be end of agency involvement. I never let girl make any of my arrangements. As I have said before..have some control.....
Bull....something doesn't make sense. You were there when phone was broken but in first post, you said that you couldn't call her because phone was broken..are we talking multiple phones?
Not sure if you have already met this girl...a bit confusing
Hi ragingbull, sorry I missed your post initially.
if you get to the point when you met the lady and know her, decided to send her money: First of all you can use any of the money transfer services. there are many of them. Never send money to people you do not know. why do you need agency if you knwo her already?
Her phone was broken, but she had it fixed before I got there because I sent her the money. One of the transistors needed replacement. I gave her enough money for a new phone, but that's alright. She bought clothes with the rest. I told her she could do that.
This was my initial meeting. Olga, I know the warnings that I shouldn't send money to a person I do not know, but I did not want to get to Ukraine and not have a way call her. Also, the warnings say that the exception is money for travel to meet her somewhere.
I did use Moneygram. Moneygram needs a number code, an ID card and a security question for the recepient to get the money. I used the agency to give her the number code. I saw no other way.
Olga, is this a common practice with the agencies?
Some of you might still say she is a scammer. She opened her phone and showed me what was replaced. I did not ask for receipts nor did I verify this at the shop. I chose to believe her.
Dunromin, you could be right. If you are, I will find another girl. This is quite addictive. It is not just a great adventure, it is fun. This is my third try. You could say that 100% of the money I spent on the first two was skimmed. One should be careful with money, that's for sure, but you only live once.
Her phone was acting up one month before it actually went out. Then, when it did, the agency was our only communication. That was not acceptable since I was trying to arrange my trip.
Raging Bull, I live in the States I didn't use any agency services. It can be done and with a lot less hassle. If the girl is serious to meet she won't use an agency. If she doesn't want to meet without the agency. Move on to the one that will. Remember fiance.com isn't an agency. There are also other sites like this.
Lots of information here for apartments, tour guides etc that are out of the agency sphere of influence. I never used Chris, but from a couple of friends here that have he is very good and reasonable and if he doesn't have an apartment in the locale you are looking he can find someone that does.
